Ah bugger, but we can still get some storms looking at that lot out in the Channel! My estimate is it will hit either at 2130z or 2200z (2230L - 2300L)?
-
I'll take a photo in a minute, see what you think!
Going to get soggy on the IoW in a mo!
I dare say Stormyking will be on shortly
Take a look at this guys, what's this crap? I can't be bothered to get my Aviation MET Book out!
-
Altocumulus can indicate mid level instability, more so Altocumulus Castellanus though which is a decent precursor!
Skies here are clearing some what after being packed with Ac earlier....going to be quite a pleasant sunset I reckon
I'll take a photo in a minute, see what you think!

Ah right cool, apologies - there's such wide ranging knowledge on here you never know how to pitch a response
Going to be an interest 2-3 hours radar watching!!
Noticed a couple of thunderstorms firing across the Channel initiated by the approaching Low
I don't know everything though, just basic Aviation Met - which has come in handy in saving my life on probably a many of an occasion! Especially with a TSRA up your bum! (Thunderstorm and Rain)
It should be good fun tonight, I have no work tomorrow so fancy watching it a bit tonight - there's a lot of that stuff in the upper atmosphere at the moment, Altocumulus etc - I'll take a picture in a minute, isn't that generally a sign of TS later in the day??
-
You need to take into consideration the rotation of the low centre which is around the SW approaches at the moment.
As the evening goes on it will organise the randbands into clumps and begin sucking them more into the swirl...where that sends the rain is anyone's guess
Yeah, fully aware of that - I was looking at the Metoffice F215 charts, and the Trough seems to be more north than forecasted, and if I am correct the band of weather should be pushed more northernly direction than what it was 3-4 hours ago.
Let's see but I haven't seen a night thunderstorm since I was little!
-
Take a look at that lot just formed in the English Channel, direction now seems 010* heading so near enough NORTH NORTH EAST! Could be interesting for London & Kent again!! http://www.raintoday.co.uk/
-
All that to the South West on Will it Rain Today, is that just rain or Thunder Cells?
-
So what's the rumor about this MCS forming down south tonight?? I can see stuff forming to the South west of the UK and near the Channel Islands, but so far all it's been where I am is just CB's and rain nothing spectacular.
-
Perhaps Estofex are away on vacation LOL
Some talk of a MCS developing across the south after dark. I would not be surprised as the instability source switches to the English Channel and onshore winds as the trough approaches.
You think??
-
Whether this shockingly below average thundery activity is becoming the norm in this part of the UK, I have no idea, but something is afoot.
Don't be wishful, calm before the storm
-
http://twitpic.com/62fyui - it's gone North East a bit and I am on the edge of it, bugger!!
-
Huge CB to the west of me now, It's literally following the extended centerline for Heathrow 27L/R - I do wonder will this lot be as bad as the stuff we had in June, or was that an MCS? These are just isolated babies?
-
Not sure what you are getting at to be honest. Im approx 14 miles north of Heathrow and those stats reflect almost exactly what Im getting here.
METAR will cover only the Aerodrome Traffic Zone, which is 2.5nms radius - it won't cover 15 miles north of the airfield.
Picture from my apartment, showing westbound which is towards Heathrow (Note the a/c on the ILS heading 270* dergrees for Runway 27L
-
Well either it's me or the Heathrow METAR is screwed lol! http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/europe.php?icao=EGLL
-
nothing but clear blue skies towards heathrow I can see the planes taking off from there they fly straight over my house.
Clearing skies here now as temps slowly sink for the evening, combined with a shallow ridge ahead of the atlantic warm front
moving in from the west. Steady light rain from dawn tomorrow will lead to a dull overcast day of a very english summer rain,
persistant with heavier bursts possible. Meanwhile the continental thunderstorms will rumble away over central Europe still in
the hot summer air.
That's what I thought, I am seeing nothing but CAVOK! Someone in the Tower doing the METARs must be potty. I am 15 miles out towards the EAST, and they establish over me.
-
I'm about 40 odd miles east and can see nothing of the sort. All that action is nearer but to my north
EGLL 031850Z 22012KT 190V250 9999 FEW050CB 25/13 Q1014
CBs still for the latest METAR.

EGLL 031750Z 22013KT 190V250 9999 FEW050CB 26/11 Q1013 NOSIG
CB at 5000ft base over Heathrow, well well - are we in for anything tonight?
-
Anything for London this evening?
-
It's a shame that this is effectively our Summer, which has been very hot at times. Then again, most people wont moan if the mercury hits high 20s instead of high 30s for weeks on end will they?
I am wondering can we still break this years hottest temperature in September? Our seasons seem a bit extreme of late, maybe 30+ in September, if weather conditions permit?
-
MAX 25 °C
Min Temperature 16 °C
Precipitation 28.40 mm
Average Mean 17 °C
-
My CET would be a August Record, not going to happen then seeing as the previous best was 19.2 lool!
-
haha! Let's see!
-
20.5 for me!
-
Interesting, because this country cannot deal with it! Britain grinds to a halt if it hits as bad as this says.

I can see anvil topped towering cumulus or CBs to my south, is that what you've got?? I've got literally a wall of it (or something)
