  1. Good to be back for the silly season, solar min i'm excited, here's one of my recent time lapses from the Swansea Valley, some nice inversions in there....
  2. Warm seas have made our coasts magical, last mon splashing around down Southerndown. Been seen on many beach, Three cliffs, Pobbles, Permon point the most prevalent. Intresting this is the 3rd year in a row, sign of changing times? https://www.facebook.com/groups/182734892412764/permalink/192697998083120/
  3. Changed you opinion since this morning? or your just trying to wind up people? either way i hope this is done and we can get back to snow hunting
  4. Whats with the Dererk/BBC bashing? I though they were spot on last time. Look at it this way, those of us around Swansea were hopeful of a a good dump of snow, good early orange warning, as it happen didn't get much at all, it stayed east, mainly in the Red warning area which was issued as soon as the high res models put some placement on it. Warnings any earlier would be inaccurate and the general guidance and early warning to authorities was very accurate. Fingers crossed for the weekend even if it's only likely in the higher parts.
  5. Made this at Henrhyd falls a few days ago.
  6. This morning from my house nr Pontardawe
  7. About 1 cm jhere, more on the way by the looks of the radar
  8. Many thanks, the 4.4 was up on the hill behind my house, in fact took a pic of this spot in December.
  9. How would you find accurate information about the location of the epicenter, some reports locate very close to my house, is there any reliable way of pinpointing it, or the most reliable source? I didn't notice it was in the pub watching football!
  10. nice surprise to see a covering this morning
  11. From Le Corbier 10 days ago, Great work keeping the roads open, though it did wake me at 5am every morning.....
  12. @andymusic saw your post to c in mod, here's a few pics i took, a couple of days ago in Alps (before the most recent dump), turning into an epic year for snow, (and terrible for skiing atm, lots closed due to avalanche risk)
  13. nice piece about 1982 on the bbc today..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-42615172
  14. Really looks like it's going to be an epic year for the Alps. Hellish rd conditions on 30th resulted in lots of tourist stuck between resorts and airports and as a result flights cancelled or delayed. I was going to celebrate New Year in Le Corbier but arrived in early hours after a 46 hr mini break at Gatwick. Barely stopped snowing since and 20-30 cm forecast tonight, 40 cm tomorrow. Not great conditions, white out and increasing closures due to avalanche risks. End of week look great though. Pic from one of the few breaks in cloud. Looking forward to a snowy UK on my return, no doubt the mods are bang on Have a great 2018 all
  15. Fair enough, I am slightly disappointed you could not back any of what you said with actual fact or stats and no hearing something on a TV program decades ago doesn't count as scientific reasoning, you then quoted trumps recent ramblings, so it must be all true!!! We definitely not going to agree. Have a good new year. ?
  16. Stuck in Gatwick, flight to Alps for new year skiing cancelled due to too much snow, aggggggghhhhhhhhh.......
  17. You've lost me... The vast forests of the northern hemisphere haven't been lost in the last 50 years, since 1900's they have been managed as commercial plantations, still cover cira 70% of the land and have never been as important as Rain Forests which are the true lungs of the planet. I'm not sure they have ever been regarded as wind breakers. Yes the Jet is a primary driver for the UK, but what impacts the jet? and is the jet as important for other locations? May i suggest that using 1976 in isolation as a base is always going to skew your view and does little to further your point. Dec 2010 was epic for cold, the rest of that winter was not exceptional. I am am intrigued by the winter prospects in 18/19 and 20/21 due to low solar activity, but i would not dispel increasing evidence that the planet is warming as a whole and that the climate is changing as a result.
  18. peaked 12 years ago, i don't understand?.....the last 6 years have all been less than the median... http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2017/10/ 99% of your reading choice is not represent the scientific consensus, The planet has more CO2 than any time mankind has been around and is warmer globally. For our country there is possibility it may become colder in winter, so agree with @tight isobar climate change is perhaps a better description, of course you may argue that it's not man made, but the climate is changing. Its probable that the solar minimum impacts weather but its just one variable, temporary in nature, and its impact on a warmer planet is unknown. With respect saying we've had 25-30 years without snow is wrong, and citing the fact we've "not had a summer like 76, if my memory is right went from the beginning of May till the beginning of October... nothing like it sinc" as evidence is ridiculous; it is probable that its the second warmest jan-oct since records began in 1910 "analysis of the Met Office’s figures indicates that the first 10 months of 2017 were the second warmest January to October period, behind 2014, for the UK since records began in 1910. This appears to be part of a trend, with the eight warmest years on record so far having occurred from 2000 onwards. This is a clear sign of the impact of global warming on the UK. Over the same period, the UK has experienced five of its six wettest years on record, which is likely to be another consequence of global warming, as a warmer atmosphere can hold more water, leading to more intense rainfall. Climate change is making the UK warmer and wetter, with higher risks of heatwaves and flooding due to heavy rainfall" http://www.lse.ac.uk/GranthamInstitute/news/analysis-of-met-office-figures-reveal-second-warmest-year-on-record-for-the-uk/
  19. What a strange statement, 99% percent of scientists agree global warming is real, and it impacts will be global, have you not seen the arctic sea ice records?!!
  20. Festive greetings, just had a snow shower here, plenty on the hills, this morning....
