  1. I love seeing the transition to winter on that cam, and  the icebreaker looks cool parked up.

Ramps things up nice and early for me in the Autumn and sort of says "look what you may get some of later on"

  2. Our Xmas Eve Bomb is currently at 1012... 0100hrs.

    Posted Image2013122300_eur_full_large.gif

Meto have this plotted 8 hours from now at 970hPa - ABSOLUTE BOMB - or, UKMO are off track.... either way the jet sucks the living daylights out of this system at a rate 6hpa per hour. Bomb system definition is 24 hPa per hour, this happens in a Quarter of that time, drop between now and 0700 on UKMO is 42 hPa. Rapid ingestion of stratopsheric air.

    Posted ImageUW18-21.gif

Phenomenal synoptics - regardless of anything else incoming later. This gradient vs. this jet is simply off the grid, overnight yrno run will look spectacular.

24 hPa per 24 hours = bomb, 42 in a lot less = like you say  Absolute bomb!

anyone can take any  cat 2 hurricane and play top trumps to see if this is serious for example 960 hpa and 100mph 3 dead  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Gustav_(2002)

  3. That image transports me to the 1980s and swapping computer game cassettes with your mates. If only we could find the right hex address for the POKE we could send those pixels to Iceland.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PEEK_and_POKE

so BASICALLY we need the weather to give the charts a Killer Poke (8 bit cheat) in the right direction. loved playing boulder dash on the acorn electron! hope this winter does not drop a rock on our heads! post-15601-0-73578000-1385338346_thumb.p

  4. Very surprising to see snow so far south in Texas of all places, so early in the season.

wonder how long before the reds go from over europe...they never stay the same for more than a couple of weeks. this picture will change! post-15601-0-82083000-1385298180_thumb.p

  5. Weather permitting wed 20/11/13  to find ison look to the south east about 5.45am to 6-15am  after which the sky gets too bright ,much before and its in the low murkiness or has not risen.

Near the horizon there is mercury and slightly higher up the bight star Spica.

Look halfway between the two, and a tiny bit to the ground , and there is C/2012 S1 ISON

There was a cloud in the way yesterday hope to do better today!

  6. Haven't posted in here for a few days as I've been model watching.  Anyway, on the IMS, it's definitely noticeable that the sea ice on the southern tip of Greenland is reaching towards Iceland.

    Posted Image

There is probably still a decent distance between the two, but with the way it is just, now, it's not beyond reasonable that the Ice could reach Iceland this winter...

hope it does, it does look closer than any other chart I've seen.post-15601-0-53141600-1384906664_thumb.p

  7. The negative comment you refer to has confused me though, are you saying there should be more snow in Siberia for example? Posted Image  Even if that is the case, we are in an amazing position for sure. Posted Image

Can we get the baby to mature from its nappies, here's hoping so. Posted Image

Was just adding to the strange match list, what it does with it next will be the interesting bit. will it stay in nappies!

  8. Almost - except there is no positive anomaly in southern Scandi this year - been pretty mild there.

Well that looks like its abov to change!.

    wish it would http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/scand?over=none&symbols=snow&type=snow.next3days

Because it was a real surprise to see the chart so closely matching 2010 apart from that.

    http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/77585-snow-and-ice-in-the-northern-hemisphere-201314/page-42#entry2834124

2010 took a very large Negative like the one we have now  and before long turned it to this http://climate.rutgers.edu/snowcover/chart_daily.php?ui_year=2010&ui_day=331&ui_set=2

So its a really big ask of this season but is it man enough (not scientific I know) to match up in two weeks time. I guess it will do its own thing.

  9. Need to get things pointing in the right direction Posted ImagePosted Imageims2010322_asiaeurope.gifPosted Imageims2013318_asiaeurope.gif

Scandinavia does look to start  to bring the arrow lower!  http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/scand?over=none&symbols=snow&type=snow.next3to6days

OMFG. How bizarre, the 2010 similarities are gaining momentum and in a week or ten days time so too, will the SNOW and ICE, well here's hoping. Posted Image

Where's I Bring The Hammer when you need him? You da legend, go dig out your old post from the Winter Discussion thread. Posted Image

Game on. For us in the UK, generally progressively cooler and drier at the four to five day range and with the Atlantic blocked, look East and North East for a slow encroachment of snow and ice. As well as looking North and Northwest for the first infiltrations of colder air come Sunday/Monday.  Posted Image Posted ImagePosted Image

more similarities with the large negative

  10. Today's zoom...Getting there slowly one step at a time.post-15601-0-85443800-1384295793_thumb.p

patience needed by me to wait for widespread wintry weather Posted Image ...may have to wait till winter for it!

If you Zoom in, you will see white pixels in Scotland AND England now. Getting there slowly.

Also, the Ice does appear to be inching closer to Iceland..... What a moment it would be if it could reach the north shore of Iceland this year!!

A ice bridge to Iceland would be amazing and so cool to see but it would need loads more ice than we have I believe.
