Lot's of positivity around tonight, so to keep the mood going, here's today vs yesterday. Some gains and losses around Russia, probably equalling each other out. Big gains in Canada, particularly in Alberta and ice building nicely north west of Alaska around the Chukchi Sea..........and a few extra pixels in Scandi to boot!!!!
Yesterday v today
here more of what your saying!
10days ice growth closer look yesterday/today
As you can see work has started on the Greenland/Iceland 2014/15 Icebridge !!

If the parallel gfs keeps churning out runs like this i can see it becoming rather popular very quickly!

Cohen is going to get a good workout this season, these figures are looking very healthy now added in 2014 on the chart just to highlight the cover vs previous yrs in the series.
Great thread on amwx on the subject with some dedicated calculation of potential msk figures. The 1976 analog just posted is superb.

Ignore the squiggle in the line which was some kind of error most likely related to the recent outages, but as you can see across Eurasia as a whole very positive in terms of cover and the gradient looks pretty useful too.
Plenty of discussion over on the AmericanWX forums about the SAI holding up close to 2009 and 2012 levels, guess we will have to wait for a final report in a few days time.
SK
Thanks for the link, Buzzing on there (and we begin) Looks like the Eurasia chart is about a month ahead of the worst and well ahead of most years, will be interesting to see what effect it has. Big gains as they happened shown as red http://www.daculaweather.com/4_sample_loop2.php

Forecast shows well the expected movement south of the snow over the next 336 hours http://fim.noaa.gov/FIM/jsloopLocalDiskDateDomainZip.cgi?dsKeys=fim_jet:&runTime=2014102300&plotName=weasd_sfc&fcstInc=360&numFcsts=57&model=fim&ptitle=Experimental%20FIM%20Model%20Fields&maxFcstLen=336&fcstStrLen=-1&resizePlot=1&domain=fim takes time to load then pause the fast animation.

I like the way the ice is pushing towards Iceland again this year, any chance of a ice bridge?!! http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/cgi-bin/seaice-monitor.cgi?lang=e
Russia looking nippy in places; Moscow the same latitude as Edinburgh -9deg C tomorrow and at the same latitude as Dundee is http://www.yr.no/place/Russia/Sverdlovsk/Yekaterinburg/
Bigger picture http://www.yr.no/kart/#lat=67.99402&lon=33.83789&zoom=3&laga=temp&proj=900913

Until we get NOAA back again any ideas for seeing how we are progressing towards winter?
Better than nothing? http://www.yr.no/kart/#lat=67.99402&lon=33.83789&zoom=3&laga=temp&proj=900913

There is a 360 cam actually on the roof of the Nordkapphallen building at Nordkapp - http://nordkapp.livecam360.com/cam3/flash/main.php
Oddly enough the peninsula that can be seen just to the west, Knivskjellodden, actually extends further north.
I find road cams are good as well , must be the dramatic nature of people pushing though it when it gets bad. Not much happening at the mo but here are some links http://vegasja.vegagerdin.is/vefmyndavelar/?xmin=240526&ymax=678578xmax=766625&ymin=304404 http://www2.liikennevirasto.fi/alk/english/kelikamerat/kelikamerat_5.html

Norway is going to try for some snow
.http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/dynamic/europe?over=none&symbols=snow&type=snow.next3to6days
Fill her up I'd say! Good example from nearly a months time in 2010
It brings the cold nearer and It does our chances no harm as shown in the past.

Thought I would share this link as good fun to play around with..found it whilst looking for a decent dataset that would allow some graphs to be built, not found yet, but nevertheless a good archive of SCE that can be opened and viewed via a NOAA App.
Pity the dataset is not real time as along with the traditional views it also translates to Google Earth.
Couple of images attached for examples.
Beyond me but keep playing with it Lorenzo and others ,images look great and go back further than the noaa snow and ice ones for potential interesting comparisons.
