  1. Didn’t get much here with most top gusts  around the 30mph level. The highest gust I got up the road was 33.3mph but I got many 29mph gusts.

There may have been a very brief period of 35 or 40mph gusts not long after I came in to have dinner as it did sound quite loud but I don’t know for certain as I was in the kitchen.

Just had a baby squall line cross through here (Grantham, Lincs), I estimate, using my patented 'Eye-o-Meter' we had winds peaking 50-60 Mph for a very short time, very potent. In some of the gusts, it was like the remaining leaves exploded off the trees, which made it even more visually impactful.

Probably more like 30-40mph going by your description although I always feel that it’s very difficult to tell wind speeds by eye alone unless you have proper measuring equipment.

  3. Got a pressure reading of 955 from this storm but it only gave us max gusts of 30-35mph between about 6:00AM and 12:00PM.

So even for here in Wales the yellow warning we were left with became invalid as the low obviously had gone a bit further south than expected as even here we were expected to get at least 40-50mph gusts.

On the radar, it looks like two separate squall lines squeezed into a band about twenty miles apart and the rain falling from the area between is like being in the centre of a heavy thunderstorm.  I can hear it falling onto the roof, the car and the ground outside and it’s quite something to listen to it….very noisy.  I’ll be glad when it eases up, probably after midnight at this rate!  Where is all this water going to go??

I think that rain had produced some lightning earlier as I saw some very infrequent distant flashes to my south or southeast about an hour or so ago.

Who's keeping an eye on that front coming up from the south? I've seen a report of thunder in Devon and I can see a few showers forming just off the south coast

I saw some very infrequent distant flashes of lightning to my south or southeast about an hour or so ago and i am in West Wales.

Was quite surprised as I didn't think anything was expected.

I've done quite well this year as well!

2 very close CG's sub 400m, 9th May the one during the day and 18th September at around 3am which was more like around 200m away.

Definitely one of the best years for storms in my locality along with 2020, some other cracking storms in June and early July as well.

Made the vids shorter as I do freak out in them😂

Two great captures there, just a shame they were cut short as it would have been great to have heard the thunder in its entirety.

EDIT: Just read the rest of the post above so no problem with the vids being short here.

Even up here (central Scotland) doesn't look severe, 40-45 mph late tomorrow night is as high as it goes. Anything under 50 mph isn't worth a warning imo.

I feel like anything of 40mph or higher does deserve a warning to be honest even if it's just a yellow one as i have seen winds of that level take twigs or even small branches off trees which could still cause injury if unlucky enough to be under a tree with debris possibly hitting sensitive parts of the body such as the eyes.

Personal property can be damaged as well at that level though it would be very minor with mostly just things like fences getting into problems.

I would agree though that the most noticeable damage seems to alway's start occurring once you get to the 50mph or higher mark.

  8. A few models have dropped our winds by a good 10mph from when i last looked. We were going to get 60mph gusts but at the moment its looking more around 50mph.

Got 42mph up the hill yesterday with just windy weather so with a named storm I do wonder by how much more than this we will get.

  9. Saw two faint flashes to the east of here around 9:45PM so I am assuming that was from the lot of showers that were to the southeast.

Had quite heavy rain for a bit but there are clear skies now and I haven't seen any more faint flashes.

Better get off this thread now as I assume that's it for here and I think I am going to get quite upset seeing all of the reports of lightning going on in the South of England.
