  1. The time of year with the most frustrating weather type is upon us again with many days of let downs.
  2. We had some distant lightning and thunder this morning some time after 7:00AM to the northwest and north of us. I woke up first from a dream and then i heard a loud low rumble and i thought it might have been an earthquake or tremor, and it was only when i opened the curtains and then saw a flash in the sky that i knew it was lightning. I then wen't outside and saw that this distant storm was then flashing every minute or so with distant rumbles for at least 15 minutes and i counted the time to hear the rumble from one of the flashes to be 45 minutes so it was about 9 miles away.

  4. Forgot to mention that it looks like we had a gust of 39.4mph on the 6ft high weather station in the garden last night at 2:35AM which is the highest gust the station has ever recorded since we put it up in early 2020. That means there must have been gusts of at least 40-50mph up the hill in the early hours so the yellow warning was justified but just for a more smaller section of the night.

  6. It was a bit less stronger then forecast as i only managed to get a few 40mph gusts up the hill last night and mostly just gusts in the 30's. We were supposed to get gusts of at least 50mph if not higher. The storms suppose to be filling and getting weaker today but I would say that the winds are just as gusty now as they were last night at the moment. I did see some flashes last night as I was out though so somewhere must of had some lightning.

  8. I was referring to our area here in Wales. I know Ireland is getting it this morning as thats were the worst is supposed to occur first. I still don't know when the worst is suppose to happen here, this afternoon or into the night hours?
  9. Maybe the timings out, or the worst is going to be tonight. It is just breezy here currently in Wales as well but i am pretty certain we are not supposed to really get anything until this evening and into the night hours. I think it's very unlikely they have got it wrong in just a few hours of forecasting.
  10. Well I have all the gear I need to keep warm this time around with waterproofs and thermals so hopefully I will be able to actually go out in it and try and break my highest handheld wind gust of 53mph since living here in Brongest. I have to go up the local hills to get these readings though so its just a case of when to go out for the highest winds which looks to be tonight, but some people are saying the peak is this late afternoon so I am not quite sure yet.

  12. That storm Friday night into Saturday bought the strongest winds I have seen since we moved here at brongest, Wales in 2018. All during that night my weather station which is just over 6ft in height had quite a few gusts in the 30s mph which is unusual to get at ground level in a garden. All of my mothers dragon ornaments in the garden were knocked over and badly damaged. Considering the day after I still managed to get 43mph and 46mph gusts up the hill tells me that there must have been frequent gusts in the 50s mph that night and possibly a few in the 60s mph which we hardly ever reach. I think its likely we had those level of winds as there were a few small trees that were uprooted or snapped in half, a few large branches off of some of the bigger trees and a neighbours scaffolding that had been knocked over. Another thing is as I was watching the wind the gusts had a punch effect going over the house which I have hardly ever witnessed before and the amount of power flashes in the sky I saw that night was ridiculous. I am a bit annoyed I wasn't able to go out to possibly break my handheld anemometer reading of 53mph since living here but I didn't risk going out up the hill to measure the winds as the wind chill would have been really bad and I wouldn't have wanted a tree or large branch to take my life. Had it been milder I could have just gone up earlier before the worst came as I wouldn't have had to worry about getting wind chill from being out the whole night. There are a load of trees each side of the road you have to walk past while walking up the hill before you come across safer open land and farm gates where I take my wind readings so I just couldn't risk it.

  14. I saw a few very dim and distant flashes of lightning around here last night though they were very infrequent. We also had some showers come through in the early hours.
  15. Looks like our area is in the 30% risk zone for convective weather today which is the highest we have had for a while so maybe something will develop later.
  16. There was a nighttime storm that came nearby at the beginning of October in 2013 when I lived in Wiltshire so its not that unusual to still have storms in August. Its quite common to have storms in August actually.
  17. Might get to see some distant night time lightning from this low then. I might be a bit too far north here in west wales though, even the strong winds are too far to the south so no wind interest either.
  18. Guess thats our chance done for another day now. I wen't for a walk earlier to measure the wind and I saw building cumulus clouds all around me and a load of anvils to the far northwest and north. They were too far away to affect us today, didn't even hear any thunder.
  19. Looks like we are in the section to the south below where all of the action is taking place currently. Maybe the strikes in the southeast of Ireland are a sign of things to come for our area later.
  20. Bit of a letdown yesterday and I feel we are going to be too far west again for anything today. The storm forecasts have a bit more of a wider moderate risk for thunderstorms compared to yesterday though so hopefully that may make a difference.
  21. Thought today was going to be a lot better for thunder here but we have had nothing so a bit of a let down. Looks like the storms are forming more inland to the northeast of us and the flow is moving in that direction so any storms that do form are just moving away from us. Last chance for more thunder now is tonight and tomorrow.
  22. Its pretty cloudy here now after that heavy rain. Unless it's more sunny to our northeast and the clouds can form there and then move this way i don't think our chances are as high today for thunder as we don't have the heat of the sun to get things going.
  23. I think there must be a delay on my rain gauge as it is up to 14.4mm of rain per hour now even though it's raining less than it was earlier.
  24. I think there must be a delay on my rain gauge as it is up to 14.4mm of rain per hour now even though it's raining less than it was earlier. No thunder yet but i imagine chances of this will raise as the afternoon goes on.
