  1. One max gust of 37mph here at some point in the afternoon with mostly 30mph gusts throughout. It was a nice windy day with some sunshine at times and with your typical windy day level winds we get throughout autumn. I was expecting it to be stronger to be honest with a named storm coming in with max gusts of Force 8 to 9 rather then the Force 6 to 7 we got.
  2. I don't think it matters. All heat lightning is is lightning which is too far away for the thunder to be heard, but because its nighttime its darker so therefore can be seen much further away then during the daytime. Basically, as long as there is some kind of storm nearby at night, then you will see the lightning, just won't hear the thunder.
  3. Mostly cloudy this morning and cold, my parents had to put the fire on actually. With a northeasterly breeze which gusted to 18mph in the early hours, it was quite breezy as well. Also I was up till 3:00AM last night looking at distant heat lightning to the south which apparently was coming from storms around Bournemouth area and places like that. Too far away though to hear any thunder.
  4. Was up till 3:00AM last night looking at heat lightning in the distance to the south. Judging by peoples posts on here from last night, I can't believe I was seeing lightning from storms at the coast as some of it was quite bright. Very odd!
  5. Had about four rumbles of thunder here this evening with one intra-cloud lightning strike I saw in light to moderate showers. Cloudy with clear intervals and possible future showers by the looks of it currently.
  6. Just had two fairly close rumbles of thunder here under light to moderate showers. I saw the lightning to the second rumble of thunder which came from a shower to the west which looked intra-cloud. Thing is there hasn't been anymore for a while now so a lot of these clouds must not be well formed enough to produce actual thunderstorms, just enough to produce the odd rumble of thunder.
  7. Looks like some people have had some rumbles of thunder now, wonder if anything will occur here again like it did yesterday evening. There are definitely some cumulonimbus clouds about here, but whether they are well formed enough to produce lightning is yet to be seen.
  8. Just had a light to moderate shower come through here but its quite cloudy in general. Not sure if thundery activity is suppose to be more limited today compared to yesterday, but there are definitely some clouds trying to reach a high altitude.
  9. It was sunny earlier but cloud has come in now along with a northerly breeze. Had a surprise visit from a load of hot air balloons this morning with a few very low and coming over the garden. Must have been some event going on somewhere, my parents recorded some of them coming over.
  10. Thats got to be the cause of the dim flashes I saw to my southeast while out looking at the stars a little drunk then.
  11. While out looking at the stars and a little drunk, I saw a few dim flashes to my southeast so there must still be lightning going on somewhere. Heat lightning I think its called, where the storm is too far away for any thunder to be heard but lightning can still be seen for hundreds of miles as its clear and darker than daytime.
  12. Just had a heavy shower and some thunder and lightning here, looked like it was all intra-cloud with rumbles of thunder. Looks like I missed half of it though as i was inside having dinner when it was moving in from the northeast.
  13. Yes had some here as well! Was eating dinner with my parents and they said was that thunder? So I wen't to open the back door and that confirmed it. I'm a bit annoyed that I wasn't outside earlier because if you say you had thunder and lightning then I would probably have seen it coming from the distance.
  14. Well after a max gust of 34mph last night its now calmer though still breezy with 18mph gusts and sunny intervals.
  15. Highest gust it reached here overnight was 34mph which is BFT Force 7 Near gale. I saw it hit 30mph twice when I was outside in the garden when it was pretty gusty. Looks like there were gale force gusts across the southwest last night but I don't think any were around here as there probably would have been more tree damage. Must have been more intense to the east as Heathrow hit 63mph which is a Storm force gust.
  16. The last forecast I saw showed the strongest winds across Northern England, maybe thats why. Mind you the track has been all over the place during the last 24hrs so I don't think its set in stone yet.
  17. Just had a few very heavy showers this evening as Andy Brown has posted. Max wind gust of 25mph but most of the day had gusts of 19-24mph which is BFT Force 5 Fresh breeze.
  18. Had plenty of heavy showers today and one particularly in the last hour but we have had nothing thundery. They seem to be producing lightning as they move away to the east as some people from the southeast regional thread have posted.
  19. Thought we were going to be in the firing line for this but most forecasts now take the worst of the winds across the north. Only just managed to reach 25mph today and that was with a wind warning across the southwest so not expecting much from this now.
  20. Don't know! Models are all over the place with the track, the met office has warnings for the north of the country yet other forecasts take the worst of the winds across the south.
  21. Didn't start till quite late today but there were some rumbles from distant storms over the hills to our north and northeast. Before these occurred the structure of the cumulonimbus clouds looked very good with well formed anvils. I saw one powerful looking cloud to ground strike in the distance which produced cannon sounding thunder, and then a period of very heavy rain passed over later on before giving one close rumble of thunder as it moved away.
  22. I think I may have seen one of your Positive cloud to grounds here in the distance watching a storm to the northeast earlier on. It sounded like a cannon going off in the distance, it had no branches and quite a thick channel.
  23. You lot should have posted in the convective thread as well as theres nothing in there from our area apart from my posts. Just dark clouds around with sunny intervals right now and I don't have any footage but there was some thunder earlier along with very heavy showers. I saw one intra-cloud strike with a nice loud rumble overhead looking from our back door.
  24. Well there hasn't been anymore thundery stuff for a while now and its currently not raining either. There were a few more rumbles after I last posted and i wen't outside to inspect those as the thundery shower moved away. Surprised no one else around here has posted to be honest, unless they have all posted in the southwest regional thread.
  25. Thunder roughly every few minutes here with already some heavy showers. Saw one intra-cloud strike right over head with nice rumbling sounding thunder soon after!
