  1. Mostly cloudy after some rain. Not sure if I heard a few rumbles of thunder earlier or though thinking it was a jet now as can't see any lightning detected around hear or any other reports. Glad I saw that frequent lightning storm last Saturday morning now as there doesn't look to be anything thundery in the near future.
  2. It was the odd rumble of thunder scenario here last night with a few faint and brightish flashes of lightning and some soft rumbles. It was obvious that the main action was going to be for eastern areas. Main story was just the rain though, and it was absolutely nothing compared to Friday night, Saturday mournings event.
  3. Beautiful lightning storms last night from 12:00AM with the faintest flashes in the distance to right overhead at 4:00AM and moving away. I always look for faint flashes or heat lightning when we are forecast storms as you can see lightning at a far greater distance during the night compared to the day, and this is why when I saw constant faint flashes like a firework display before deciding whether to go to bed or not I knew we were in for something. There wasn't anything too nasty though, more just frequent and amazing intra-cloud lightning with very infrequent cloud-ground.
  4. I would definitely say that there were some unusually powerful + positive cloud to ground strikes yesterday as the sound of the thunder and look of the lightning was exactly the same as i've seen on storm chase videos which show this type of lightning.
  5. Had to add also that our electricity went off twice earlier due to the + positive cloud to ground strikes.
  6. Yes pretty sure thats the type of lightning we had here earlier too!
  7. Well, that was an impressive storm. Constant rumbles to start with which would have looked great at night, then torrential rain and some powerful cloud to ground lightning which to me actually seemed to look and sound positive. The reason why I think there was some positive lightning is because the thunder sounded of the sort that I have heard on storm chaser videos that sound like cannons going off and the lightning had virtually no branches. Shame that I was in fear most of the time thinking what may happen if our house got struck by one of those sorts of bolts!
  8. Lots of rumbles here now, thinking they must all be from intra cloud lightning.
  9. Looks like a lot of lightning a far way from here looking at the radar!
  10. I can here thunder here to my southwest! Just a few rumbles so far though.
  11. Skies certainly look unstable and thundery looking here this morning though whether it brings any actual thunder is open to doubt. Having just seen Sky News weather everything looks to be too far north of here to be honest with most storms shown to be over the midlands.
  12. I take it the risk is moving away from our zone then based on latest outputs? I really want us to get something here tomorrow as I don't want us to completely end up missing everything from this two week forecast thundery period.
  13. I really hope we get some thunder tomorrow as I don't wan't to go through this forecast thundery period without even getting one rumble of thunder! I can't honestly tell whether it looks good for our area tomorrow for convective weather as all the forecasts are different.
  14. Pretty confident that this is an official bust here now. Do not have the energy or the bother to stay up late for the possibility of seeing a few flashes of lightning. As others have said though, hopefully Saturday will give us something instead. I hope!
  15. Feeling quite depressed with how this summer has gone for thunder to be honest with just three days of thunder back in June. I think thats it for Summer thunderstorms now as there is no lightning to the southwest of me as there was a few hours ago so unless we get a surprise storm pop out of nowhere tonight then its another failed thundery period. Even then if we were to get something later it would in no way make up for the poor summer for storms.
  16. To be honest, I have seen plenty of times where the opposite is true, where storms degenerate as they reach land. Like today for instance!
  17. Agreed mate! If it won't bring the fireworks, then it can sod off far as I am concerned too, total waste.
  18. Very humid right now with mid level cloud and clear intervals but probably doesn't mean anything for thundery weather. So glad that atlantic storms and windy weather exists otherwise the weather would be boring me out of my mind these days due to the lack of thunderstorms.
  19. I am! It doesn't even need to be anything that spectacular, just some distant lightning and thunder would do me. There hasn't been enough thunder this year far as I am concerned to make it even average and personally just looking forward to this Autumn and Winter now for windy weather.
  20. What a surprise, NOT! In all seriousness though, hopefully its just storms dying out before new ones form.
  21. Met Office warning for thundery showers this evening, I take it thats for the stuff developing from Biscay? Looks like they have extended it South and West as well, though I am just outside of the zone by the looks of it.
  22. Yes and this was the biggest problem today for home grown storms to form. Too much cloud cover! Our last chance now is the mid level convective stuff coming up from Biscay otherwise it will be another total write off.
