The latest BBC forecast at 12:00PM today only mentioned 60mph gusts for exposed areas of Scotland so I can only assume that the winds have recently been downgraded a bit. A forecast of '60mph gusts for exposed areas' would usually equate to 40-45mph for lower less exposed places, and these sort of speeds are seen every year even for us down the south. It won't really be anything noteworthy for Scotland, as they tend to get more gales then southern areas anyway. The snow and cold risk is the thing to be more concerned about.

I think a lot of this is to do with the fact that this will be mainly affecting coastal areas. There is a warning out for 70mph gusts just recently, but that will only be for very exposed areas and most places in the warning area will more likely have 40-50mph gusts instead.

Its pretty much as calm as you can get out there at the moment in terms of any wind. Quite a lot of stations are showing exactly 0mph, which is something you don't see everyday for a properly exposed weather station. Anyway personally I don't want there to be any snow this week as we are going to be starting to build a tower next to one of our trees that got damaged by the wind a few weeks back!

I'm shocked!!!!! I can't believe this sort of rubbish even exists, could they really get any worse. -
Not really interested in snow or cold myself but it looks like it won't be quite as cold as the models were showing yesterday. I have been checking the Model thread these past few days and there are definately a few slight downgrades.

It shouldn't be a suprise really, I mean they did have a 190mph+ Storm. Just look at EF5 tornado damage and you will see what I mean. -
Just heard a few rumbles out my window so checked to make shure and I saw a flash. It is very occassional though. It sounded like it came from my Northwest, there have already been a load of showers coming through here this evening so don't know if I will get a direct storm or not. Edit: Seems to have stopped now!

Just check out this video to get a small idea of what these people are actually getting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK-Kfr2G3a0 And to think that the Philippines are getting about an added 62mph on top of this! -

I don't know where the 'Battered by winds' is coming from. The gales they are talking about will only affect high and exposed areas in the north! -

Really, sustained 200mph! That means gusts would be well in excess of even that. Thats equivilent to an EF5 tornado, it might as well be a giant most powerful tornado let alone hurricane. -
Didn't really get as much wind here as I was expecting on Saturday the 2nd to be honest although reading through the previous posts it does look like most places actually did get it pretty windy. I was personally expecting gusts to be in the low 40s effecting our house. It only managed a max of 33mph then, however I think tomorrow will be more noteable for here as it looks like gusts of up to 40mph will be more widespread and stretch right the way from the south coast to the far north of the region.

Its looking quite windy tomorrow for here to be honest! Looks like there will be gusts of 35-40mph in quite a large area inland. 50mph+ on coasts and high ground.

Possible Storm This Weekend Discussion
wimblettben replied to Skullzrulerz's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
Personally I would have indeed thought that there would be a yellow 'be aware' warning out now by the met office as widespread inland gusts of 45-55mph could still cause some minor damage i.e to trees ect. Although a 50mph wind may not seem that much, (believe me it is) fireworks being able to be set high in the sky and not come dangerously crashing down in those types of winds would be quite a miricale! -
I think that because of the recent storm just gone this coming depression for tomorrow night doesn't seem that much. But I destinctly remember a time last November when coastal 70mph gusts were forecast and 50mph inland, and there was a lot of talking about it then as we hadn't had a recent 70-80mph inland gusts producing storm. Don't forget that the storm on Monday was probably a once in 6 year event for us here down the south. So in all honesty, I think quite a few will be suprised at how strong the winds will be tomorrow evening.

I think he is refering to his location because he wasn't able to see the previous storm as he was somwhere else. Its not really selfish though, we can't change or make the weather do what we wan't it to, but the fact is that everyone has there own likes and I am afraid that life is just not fair sometimes. Lets face it, if everyone had their own way we would all just be doing the things that we like, it is only because of the consequences of certain actions that makes us feel for other people, otherwise we would be nonthewiser.
