  1. At the moment I would suggest anyone planning to have a bonfire and fireworks for Saturday should probably cancle and move it to another day.
  2. I don't know where he is getting his 70-80mph winds from! To me it looks more like possible 60mph gusts along the south coast, and 40-45mph inland. Nothing unusual this time around, just more normal deep depressions.
  3. For many areas inland there looks to be peak gusts around 40-45mph for southern areas Saturday into Sunday. There maybe some twigs snapped off and maybe some broken weak branches but thats about it. It looks at the moment that if you wan't to experience any damaging winds from this then you will have to travel to the coast.
  4. Yeah it wasn't your usual storm for southeastern areas. To be honest it looks to me that the storm didn't deepen as quick as was forecast which is why us lot in the Southwest got off more lightly. Most areas around here had frequent 50-60mph wind gusts and then a few isolated 70mph+ with the shortlived squall. It could have been a lot worse, we could have woken up to nasty 70-80mph gusts in a much more larger spread and they would have lasted for a lot longer.
  5. It looks like the storm on Monday deepend a bit later than the forecasts said which is why we didn't have it as bad as Southeastern England. I still managed a 58mph gust on the roof of the house however, which is still very unusual. I could probably easily have seen our house getting a 70mph gust had it deepend more early as was originally forecast. Looks like it will be quite windy later today. Will probably get the more typical 20-25mph wind gusts.
  6. Here are some pictures of the storm damage from yesterday. One of the main branches of this ash tree were broken off and also slightly damaged the roof of our shed. https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/19118-damaged-ash-tree/ https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/19122-broken-branch-view-4/ https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/19119-broken-branch-view-1/ https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/19120-broken-branch-view-2/ https://forum.netweather.tv/gallery/image/19122-broken-branch-view-4/ I am not certain, but I think this must have happend when the squall line came through as it produced a 58mph gust on the roof of our house.
  7. Some of these pictures are of the clouds that were coming through before the storm came. The broken tree branch was taken the morning after, probably caused by the 58mph gust that came through with the squall.
  8. From the album: Storm Pictures-Clouds and broken large branch

Some damage to the shed roof can be seen here. Caused by the tree hitting it.
  9. From the album: Storm Pictures-Clouds and broken large branch

The broken branch from the ash tree.
  10. From the album: Storm Pictures-Clouds and broken large branch

The ash tree that was found to be damaged in the garden the next day.
  11. From the album: Storm Pictures-Clouds and broken large branch

An odd looking cloud before the storm came in.
  12. I would say that for here at least it was definately the worst winds we have had since January 2007. There were quite a few power flashes and we lost power at around 3:00AM. I had numourous gusts of 40-44mph with the first wave of winds and then a 50mph gust occoured and broke a branch from a small ash tree and I actually heard it. The highest gust was 58mph from I think when the squall line came through which far surpases the top record of 45mph that wasn't beaten for the past 2 years since I have had a weather station.
  13. Haven't been able to post anything about this storm recently as the power came off at around 3:00AM last night. I was up all night and I actually could see the power pole lighting up the sky as it was exploading. I got a max gust of 58mph on the roof of our house after around 5:00AM which far exceeded my previous record of only 45mph! Woke up to find a large branch of an ash tree in our garden broken off and a few more were broken off from trees further away from the house.
  14. The lightning in the distance to the southeast has died down dramaticly now and there is only the occassional faint flash. It was very pretty to look at though, I couldn't here any thunder as it was all too far away but the lightning had an orange colour and you could see it in the clouds. Is there a chance of more lightning later like this or is that it?
  15. Can see quite a lot of lightning flashes to my southeast at the moment, and at times I can actually see the lightning stroke which is orange in colour. I don't think I am in for a direct storm though. I have to say it hasn't been that bad for lightning this year and its been far better then the last 6 years!
  16. It was wet this mourning and the winds didn't arrive properly until about 9:45AM. It is just dull and cloudy now with much lighter winds then earlier. Today has definately been the windiest so far this autumn with a top gust of 35mph.
  17. Are you refering to the post I made earlier? If so, then obviously I meant that I was eating soup when I saw the lightning flash. I don't know how you got confused there, I stated it pretty clearly in the post.
  18. With the damage being so low down at ground level tells me that it can't be. By the way, a strong wind is 25-31mph. They look like they have had winds of at least 70mph whether from a tornado or even a squall.
  19. I got about 12.5mm of rain here for the whole day but I don't think it is exposed enouph for perfect accurate readings.
  20. If you had 47mph before then I would say that this time around there is probably damage because of there being leaves on the trees producing more drag.
  21. Turns out the distant rumble I heard earlier must have been thunder because we have had at least 6 rumbles since then. I saw two overhead lightning flashes, one when I was having lunch looking out of the kitchen window and then another looking out of the landing window. Although there hasn't been as much lightning as previous storms we have had this year I think today has been the first where they have actually been overhead.
  22. Wow mate that is a pretty high wind gust! I have only managed 45mph over the last 2 years I have had a weather station. Anyway heavy rain here now and there have been at least 6 close to medium range rumbles of thunder so far. The first three I didn't see but there were two were I saw the flashes directly overhead. I was eating some soup for lunch when I saw it out of the kitchen window.
