  1. Snow stopped now. Clearing over. I reckon a quick melt is on the cards too.

    Fun while it lasted.

It was fun whilst it latest when it falling about 3 hours ago here too.

Didn't have any proper lying snow bar a sugar dusting like BT said but at the very least I guess I can sign myself out of the not snowed club now even it didn't snow again for the rest of the winter. :D

  2. There seems to be a milder blip between now and xmas. The GFS brings back a NW then goes into low resolution. I think some people have suggested this where a milder blip is on the cards then something more interesting.

Just out of interest e what are these suggestions about the upcoming mild spell potentially just being a blip actually based on?

  3. Seem's the complete polar opposite to last year this, back then the temperature stayed pretty low and never rose that much which was absolutely ripe for the freezing and snowy conditions we received but now it seems to be a matter of it never really getting quite low enough.

To say that it's frustrating would be a massive understatement.

  4. GFS and NAE have just stuffed us, game over im afraid, always thought it was a long shot and suprised Laura Tobin changed her forecast on the basis of the 12z NAE in the first place although she was just covering all bases i suppose.

This better not end up being the general theme of this winter as a whole. Would be absolutely gutted if that were to happen

Still haven't given up hope yet as even in poorest/most average of winters we still do at least occasionally get snow in the NW if not all the time so that possibility certainly cannot be ruled even if it wouldn't anywhere near satisfy my personal desires after the last few years.

  5. I'm confident that we will see a lengthy spell of decent wintry weather at some point after New Year which is why I am not overly concerned at the lack of any immediate deep freeze or snowfest. The christmas period is often a very pivotal one for the winter as a whole - it tends to be the period when the northern hemisphere 'settles' down into its proper winter state and when likely patterns for the remainder of the winter become more obvious. I always say winter rarely gets going proper until christmas or just after.. the last three years have muddied the water somewhat meaning many have forgotton on average how our winters often pan out.. i.e. Jan and Feb are far more likely to deliver cold and snow than december.

Well that depends on how severe or minor that cold spell (assuming we get one) would turn out to be, I'm hoping for the former of course but my cynical side keeps telling me that the latter is more likely which would be nothing out of the ordinary.

We'll have to just be patient and wait and see I guess as there's nothing we can really do apart from perhaps maybe taking a venture up to a place like the Scottish highlands or even abroad in desperation where you'd at least be guaranteed some snow. :D

  6. This thread seems to have been completely silenced by the latest model runs which I suppose should say it all really.

Is this going to end up being one of those more frustrating winters?, I hope not as absolutely dread the thought of things continuing mostly from this point on wards being on the milder side with a just few very short lived cold snaps if they're any at all.

  7. I suppose it can be quite annoying when the conditions are ripe for snow. But then again, it could be rain?

Looks like our snow won't be coming from the Irish Sea this winter, which is our life line. Could well be a snowless winter.

Well if you decide to or simply have no choice but to stay in boring, boring Runcorn for the entire duration then yes that is a distinct possibility.

I certainly don't see myself doing that if the worst comes to worst though, I have other alternatives. :winky:

  8. Like hail, I LOVE hail :D

I don't mind hail really myself, I find it pretty good to see at least some form white stuff falling the sky but it always leaves me thinking of what could be and what isn't only serves to frustrate me even more. To put simply unless it's snows I'll never be properly satisfied, anything else simply is not good enough in my book.

Still I've got to keep reminding myself "it's only early December".

  9. Come on, we haven't even completed December yet and most forecasts are hinting at more prospects for snow later on in the winter. The game for most of those further south will be a waiting game, a game that involves patience but will end up being worthwhile.

I no longer want to repeat myself about the winter to others who are worried so really just get on with things, keep an eye on the current weather and models, see how the winter pans out and don't panic, and stop repeatingly asking about something that can't be answered with certainty. We're no longer in autumn when speculation of winter is discussed, we're now in winter and we'll have to go through it step by step and month by month to get an idea of what's going to happen and only when something like a SSW happens then we can begin to speculate about the weather further down the line with reason. Relax, take a chill pill!

You make good points and are 100% spot on of course, this winter as GP quite rightly pointed out looks likely to be a slow burner with the real action taking place later on if anything happens at all which certainly should not be discounted at this early stage.

As for me overreacting? well wouldn't pay to much attention to that post as I can be a very fickle specimen when it comes to the weather even more so than Tellow probably. You just happened to catch me when I was in one of my daily depressions on the subject.

Still frustrated and a bit worried but leaning more towards neutral again now.

  10. Meh. Just not in the best of moods about how horrible today's forecast went.

Didn't get a gust over 29mph, actually pretty gutted.

I'm still confident of some falling snow tomorrow, but as far as lying snow goes, it's gonna have to be a hell of a shower to cover.

I think when I said there was no chance, it was one of them 'spur the moment' comments.

    Sorry.

    Grghhh why you.......

In seriousness my confidence levels were very low even before your spur of the moment thing so that doesn't really make much of a difference to where I stand. :winky:

  11. Hmm, I keep going back and forth in faith that it won't be a mild winter for me or anything but right now I'm on low confidence lol. Sometimes I'm confident and I'm like yay I will get snow but sometimes....Uggh. (Sorry if I'm going off the forecast topic)

I'm also in the 'low on confidence' category at the minute. Chances of a decent snow fall looked good for my area in the NW of England a few days ago and now the chances of it happening are next to nothing. Hope this isn't general trend that goes on for me right throughout the winter. :(

  12. The NE are all jammy sods. It always snows there, what did you expect?

Chances of snow here are zero, don't really care now. Frankly this winter, today especially has ticked me right off.

i think it's about time you start clutching onto that straw that is mid January for cold and snowy weather in your forecast as that's really all you have to hold onto at the minute. :D

Oh and you were always setting yourself up for a fall by getting too excited, maybe it's a lesson of sorts.
