This weekend seems to offer an easterly wind with cold rain.
It's official, I've thrown in the towel on winter 15/16.
I'm on the hunt for some milder weather now ...

Going down the depol office to get his name changed... or he's has a heart attack!!
Big turnaround in the models over the last few days... the next few will be interesting! Still hope for coldies
Ironically you've changed the name of the Deed Poll office.

No frost here either the past two nights and despite these wonderful synoptics no snow in sight
Cold and cloudy doesn't really cut it, I want the sunshine back!
-
A cloudy start has given way to a sunny mid-morning onwards.
-
I've had two polystyrene ball showers this afternoon.
Winter has arrived ...
-
Absolutely no precipitation here.
Drier than a camels chuff in a sandstorm.

It doesn't seem as though this cold spell will deliver anything in terms of snow for us (although things can change of course), but days of wall to wall sunshine are a tonic when you're off work for a week.

Im not a DJ, but a big music lover and music and weather fall hand in hand for me as I always listen to music when either out storm chasing in summer or driving in the snow in winter. Like all types of music but the more melodic/chilled Drum N Bass is my favourite, certain songs will always remind me of past weather events aswell.
I love my music too

Didn't you get that awesome Saturday in December when the rain turned to about 6 hours of snow, leaving a good couple of inches (more on favoured surfaces)? That was pretty widespread in the region, wasn't it?
Hi NIck.
I've seen a few "falling snow" events this winter here in Newcastle, but nothing that really makes me say wow, if that makes sense?! Although Monday 8 February was reasonably decent even if we did only get a temporary covering.
Fingers crossed this next cold spell delivers something a little noteworthy ...

How come? There's nothing to indicate we won't join in the party if there is one. We've had more decent snowfalls than anywhere else in England so far, and that's been mainly on the back of set ups that don't include the favoured ones you mention.
I prefer to see my party invite being accepted before I get too excited! Since 2009 and 2010 I haven't been to any parties at all. Yes I've seen snow, but nothing to write home about.
I'm maintaining interest atm though ,,,,

Ha, yes i do get carried away sometimes in here... just like to share my feelings of what the weather may be like for our region (taking information from meto and the data available)
Next week into march is looking very intresting with signs of blocking and more in the way of cold weather
Yes, judging by the mood in the MO thread, things might be looking up in terms of some late wintry weather. Too far out to be getting excited about yet and it could just be another garden path affair. Time will tell of course, but unless we get a decent N/NE/NNE'ly going, I can't see us getting much in the way of snow unfortunately.
-
Joking aside, the wind has got up quite a bit the last hour or two. No frost tonight that's for sure.

Cold and frosty start here this morning again but not as sunny with rain moving in from west although always more patchy to the east.
looking more unsettled as we head through weekend and beyond with chance of some colder interludes with risk of snow over next few weeks... either from showers as systems move east and allow cold air to filter from north or from fronts bumping in to cold air over our region (all depends on timing and position)
As always we wont know for sure till nearer the time but the risk/chance is shown in many model output over past few days.
Main thing is nothing mild showing nor nothing really cold!
Look at you getting all Darren Bett

What a bloody glorious day today, clear blue skies, and although not warm (6c) it still seemed pleasant enough.
Nothing warm or even mild in the forecast ....
-
Falling and settling snow certainly brightens up a Monday morning!
Very minimal covering however.

You need to move to Dipton JP,that's where the best snow cover is this morning.
Should be plenty of happy campers on here by later on tonight.
No, I want the weather to come to me

Just returned from the pub (it was that cold I was almost doing a pub run coming home!) and it really is bitter out there now.
Had one or two snow showers this evening, the last one was about an hour ago. Nothing settled but hey .... it's nice to see a bit of wintry weather now and then!

A flash of lightning and rumble of thunder just now and a nice covering of snow.
Oh go away
-
Just returned from the pub, cold out but wet under foot.
Clearly nothing to report from this cold snap ....
-
A mixture of showers today, chiefly rain at first but then had a few very heavy hail showers and the last shower was a mix of rain and sleety bits. Car thermometer says 3c so not overly cold yet.

Sorry to be a whinge, but the NIMBY bias in this thread has been a little bit OTT at times recently.
Although this post is off topic and will be removed (fair enough), I'd like to see people giving more UK wide views on what the models are showing rather than where a slider etc may deliver snow in the South East. For instance, snow showers affecting which areas?
Thank you.

Latest charts are looking mighty fine good! And we're not talking 10 days away.
Models tonight showing a disturbance running down the East coast of Scotland and into NE England on Saturday!
I've got a good feeling that there will be snow for many of us by the time Monday is out
-
Looks as though the wintry weather (possibly) on offer later this week onwards will not affect us.
Typical.
-
It looks as though this winter is going to limp tamely towards Spring at this juncture.
Shame, but looking at the current forecast for the next 9 days the temperature ranges between 8c (tomorrow) and 6c for the following 8 days. No snow (obviously!) but it'll certainly feel quite chilly and there will be occasional frost for my location.
So while there won't be snow, there will be plenty of wintry sunshine and it will at least feel seasonal. What's not to like?

To be fair you're right really, despite my moaning about a poor winter.
I'm sure I didn't see falling or settling snow two out of the last three winters, and I have seen transient falls of settling snow this winter.
I think 2009 and 2010 set the bar much higher and while I don't expect to see such prolonged snowcover and ice days like we did in those winters, even a 4 or 5 day sold spell with snow accumulation everyday would have been a decent noteworthy wintry event.
Oh and there's cold rain falling outside right now ...
