  1. Well I saw falling and settling heavy snow on late Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday morning. Quite a stormy affair it was too with very strong winds forcing the snow to settle on the house windows. That in itself is something noteworthy as far as wintry weather here is concerned. Although it was a brief "blink and you miss it" affair, it's a bonus and better than nothing!

  2. Yesterday we switched almost seamelssly from Autumn (16c) to Winter today (6c).

Wow, this what I love about the weather in the UK. From the sublime to the ridiculous almost instantly!

Obviously they were car thermometer readings but the difference is stratling really.

The showers that cam ethrough were impressively heavy too. Very wintry feeling day!

  3. Despite being mild, today started off really quite foul. It didn't get light until later due to the weather conditions and some of the rain really was very heavy and slapping off the windows.

Then it brightened up but with some quite prolonged heavy showers and a rainbow chucked in for good measure.

Good old British fayre really ....

  4. Visibility has improved significantly in the past 30 minutes or so I can now see the housing estate at the end of my road now which is a distance of around 643 meters

A distance of "around 643 metres" is rather specific. Not 640 meters, not 650 metres, but 643 metres. Tell the truth, you went outside and measured it didn't you?!

Plenty of fog around these past few days, I like fog, it's autumnal.

  5. The warmest day for quite some time here in the NE today all change tomorrow though with the wind becoming more of a feature though nothing unusual for the time

Yes, notably mild today with the car thermo still at 16c now.

But the outlook seems to be reverting back to chillier evenings/nights which will be a little more seasonal thankfully.

As I'd not been online for a few days I missed the excitement of faux weather charts from the ECM which chucked out something colder. Glad I missed all that to be honest. Plenty of winter time disappointment ahead to be had yet!

  6. No posts on here for 10 days?! Bloody hell troops, come on!

Lovely day today, but a decidely chilly feel in the air too.

Sunset was lovely, I spent all evening driving up and down the A1058 Coast Road and caught a delightful dusk.

As the leaves are now falling, my thoughts are starting to turn towards my favourite time of the year ... winter! I think we're due a little bit of good fortune this winter, after some really poor efforts in recent years. The last decent wintry weather we had in Newcastle was in the two bad winters in 2009/10ish.

  7. watching countryfile, next week does not look to bad to be honest

I'm still not sure how the BBC 5 day forecast online got it all so badly wrong at short notice!

Monday was another glorious day and today was also really pleasant in the sunshine.

Tomorrow looks gorgeous again, but Saturday onwards looks decidedly poor (maybe the BBC have got it wrong again  )

  8. Yes Boro Snow, a delightfully clear day here too in Newcastle. And it's still wall to wall sunshine now too.

The forecast going forward looks decidedly miserable for the next few days though, with lots of cloud around and very little in the way of brightness.

So I'm off out into the garden to make the most of this fine settled day.
