Ok are the temps in London dropping my fellow Londoners? Hope so
Gone up from 2.0C to 2.2C last half hour!!
-
Currently 2.0C here, and part cloudy. Nothing falling though.
Im still nervous that the front wont make it here tomorrow!
-
My tesco burgers best before date was 16th Jan. And ......there off....
-
Wheres the front gone on that? And the dartboard low looks like its dragging s h i te up from EU? no?
That fax is a thing of beauty for us in the SE!!
-
Essex Chelle- they are called Stella Dendrites....
And look amazing!!
-
Just think guys and gals, back in my youth that 10:30pm forecast would be it as far as info goes until tomorrow at 9:30am or lunchtime. Imagine the sleepless hours not knowing if had all gone pear shaped overnight!!

Like I said earlier if the Atlantic fronts struggle and dont make it to our region, it bodes well for a longer, colder and more snowy period over the following week(s).
This happened several times over the 1980s and could be about to repeat finally 30+ years later!!
-
If I get another repeat of 1996 I wont be happy. the front stopped 5 miles to the west of me
I remember that morning, I was on the M25 coming from the M11 in bright sunshine until I got to the M1 junction where everything was white!!
-
Latest MetO faxes look absolutely excellent.
Again it reminds me of a classic 1980s style setup with that lovely "H" symbol sitting above the UK controlling the Atlantic.
-
Guys I hope we get a foot of snow, but like ive said before in the classic 1980s cold spells I remember heavy snow being in the evening forecast for the next day, and it never made it anywhere near the South East. (But it lead to a week+ really cold spell so its all good if this does happen!!)
-
I understand your frustration Matt but banging on about it aint going to change the weather. Nature does what nature wants. Its doesn't single you out personally. There has been some impressive snowfall in Norfolk today, so sometimes you need to look a little further afield.Cheer up fella.
That said I might just jump in the car and head towards the potential snowfields of East Kent tomorrow.
I remember having amazing ice patterns on the inside of my bedroom window back then, and getting out of bed for school was like walking into a freezer!!
If, and its a big IF, we get a cold spell like that, anyone under 30 is going to be in for a serious shock at just how extreme it can be in the UK sometimes for cold and snow.
-
This potential setup over the weekend reminds me of when I was a kid in the 1980s.
On several occasions the bbc weather forecast would say snow spreading in from the west, turning to rain later on. But it never arrived and ended up staying cold for another week with Easterly winds.

Snowing in Kilburn, NW6. not really settling except on 1 wall LOL
-
Last night I was nervous about the models today, but personally I am very pleased at the output today. A cold to very cold week, snow for many im sure, and a distinct possibility of a 2 week+ decent cold spell a la 1980s style.
-
Hopefully this is the start of a month long winter spell. Have to say the last 2 or 3 winters have been better than the previous 15 years worth put together. Still not upto the 1980s standard winters but improving!! Maybe its the start of a new era of colder winters.
Still would like to experience one more of the fantastic 80s style winters before I get too old to go down a hill on a sledge!!
-
Just seen snow geese turn around and back north, gotta be a good sign!!!
-
What does WTF mean? I've seen it brandished a few times now.
Weather, Temperature, Freezing
-
Can I just ask a simple question? Has there ever been this much confusion and uncertainty within the models before forecasted cold spells which DID happen, or are they usually quite consistent and all in agreement with one another?
Only before every potential cold spell ever LOL
-
Models overall looking good for a cold spell, and maybe even a long cold spell.
But they are only models (Amazingly powerful ones), and they will change every time they update according to the latest data fed into them. They will (IMO) never be able to predict the weather with complete accuracy even if they were 1000s of times more powerful.
If you could clone the earth 9 times and have 10 exact copies right now, there would be 10 different weather outcomes in 5 days time. Its all down to millions of small random differences every second (such as someone walking, a plane flying and butterflies flapping wings!!) making bigger and bigger changes to the atmosphere and our weather over minutes, hours and days!!
-
My Grandmother is still for sale LOL Dont even want a snowflake, just a temperature under 5c for a whole 24 hours!!
-
Will it, wont it. Ive stroked a goose for good luck and am gambling that it will get really cold next week. The same chance as the models at the moment and geese are lucky
-
Happy new year, heating bills will be low until 21st Jan when it all goes in the freezer!!
-
It went dark hear earlier, radar showed heavy rain incoming, heard distant rumbles getting closer, then it just vanished off the radar. Must be Area 51 here LOL
