No downpours here, a few drips before though but the sky has not really been unstable.. it was quite stable to the south so thunderstorm are an impossibility here. Tomorrow is a small chance but still I'm very doubtful.
I did see the cell moving to Crosby way though.
It's really unstable here Stephen. Have had sporadic torrential downpours and could hear the thunder out towards Crosby. It all seems to be building as it crosses the Wirral towards Liverpool.
-
Got something brewing to my south, turning increasingly dark and have seen a few visible bolts of lightning already, can hear thunder now as well.
Have just been watching the cells develop as they moved over the wirral. Some great Ic lightning as they moved off and some fantastic cloud formations. Will post pics later.
-
According to my friend jan, it's thundering like mad in skelmersdale, and she'll post a few pics of the clouds later.
That storm has just skirted us here and it was constant thunder, no gaps whatsoever. Must have been a hell of a storm to be under.

Although temps are rising dew points are still in our favour. As reported in a previous post the temp was 1.8c but it was still snowing.
Whatever we get , enjoy what we have had and it's only the 2nd week of January. Imo temps won't actually rise much above current levels now as there will be no direct sun, the increase that has occurred has been due to the increase in cloud cover.
Get out and enjoy while it's still there !!!

itll probably stay in the east of the region.
I imagine the next few days will be cloud, dry but cold affair for us.
Need a little more snow now mate. It's getting a bit too icy for snowmen and snowballs. Whats the coverage like up there. May take the kids to Thurstaton tomorrow.
-
Has anyone else noticed the area of light snow getting it's act together to the east of our region.
-
Must add that there is something special about that glow from the snow and clouds on a cold winters night.
As for the cold spell , I can't remember the last time it snowed on a Tuesday and it was still there to play in on the saturday (at sea level). Have had a great day trying to build a snowman with the kids whilst watching my dad go flying when he threw a snowball and tried to run on the ice in flip flops.
-
Already -5.1C in Crosby at 7pm. Should it stay clear and calm tonight?
It's -3c here on the coast but it is cloudy already.
The next few days could prove to very interesting, especially if the front edges this far north on tues/weds.
-
it appears theres a light dusting a snow on the plants this morning, but only very light.
There was a light flurry at 3am this morning stephen. Just enough to dust the cars and plants

Very worried about the temp. Its shot up to minus 1.0c looking marginal....
It won't be marginal , the dp's are too low. IF the band of ppn makes it this far west it will be snow.
-
On the coast -1c , 9cm of snow
On a serious note, any slush that was on the roads has frozen solid already and it is causing very dangerous roads.
I've just opted for leaving the car parked where it is and snow balling with the kids instead.

Big fat wet snow !!!

I'm from Moreton myself Shaun, only been over the 'dark side' about 7 years. And your Rovers avatar...Love it. Season ticket holder for 16 years only recently decided to abort. Still love the Superwhite Army though!
Surprised they managed to play last night. The pitch was harder than rock come the end.

I think it is extremley hit and miss, and to predict A) where the precip will fall, and in what form it'll arrive is going to be very difficult. In saying that, it'll make for good lampost watching throughout the evening.
Here's hoping we all get a snow event. Cheers. (opening a nice chilled bottle of pinot Grigot)
Pass a glass over the water

Current temp 0.8c and dp -2c. Not too bad with the wind direct off the Irish hot water bath(sorry sea !!)
-
Well temps hovering just above 0c here. Earlier snow shower followed by a rain shower that have now left frozen footpaths even with cloud cover. Looks like we may get a little snow tomorrow after initial rain.
-
At last. IT IS SNOWING !!!!!!!!!! <_<
-
you must be the warmest place in nw england, even blackpool airport recorded -3c, and walney island -2c the air temp would have to reach 0c if you have frost settled, is it on the cars and roof tops?
I would be checking that weather station if you only got to 0.3. On the met office observations site even Crosby got to -4.5c and we were still below freezing on the wirral recently.
Edit - We have just reached 0c.
-
Its snowing here now, a very wet sleety snow but snow nevertheless. It's never going to settle though as the ground temperature is roughly the same as the air temperature (2C). Not heavy enough to make an impact either. Snow like this seems very localised because across the river at 700 feet high it appears they're getting rain, yet 350 feet here we are getting snow, so strange things happening.
We have our first proper flakes on the coast now. Shame it's too sleety
-
Lovely icy cold RAIN here with a biting breeze and 2.9c.
You just have to admire the current models though and for all the whinging and whining being done - In the last few years many would have jumped at the chance of having rain that MAY turn to snow or the prospects of ten days of bitter weather.
That alone is worth raising a glass to.
-
Rain here at the mo but it wouldn't take much to turn to sleet/snow. Driving before and there were splatters of ice in the rain going all over the windscreen.
-
Totally agree, obviously with it being after dark things will be cooler, but not necessarily enough to help. I'm not getting over-excited, especially for any marginal areas. I just can't see it being cold enough.
This evenings plans are now:-
1.Beer
2.Lights off - lamppost in view
3.Footy on the box
4.Occassional radar viewing
I love being off work !!

1.59pm - meto just issued flash warning for whole of the NW!!
http://www.meto.gov.uk/weather/uk/nw/nw_forecast_warnings.html
I'm not convinced this thing is going to reach us. It looks like it will stall to me but then what do I know?
You just beat me to it. The PPN will have to be a lot heavier to cool things down enough for snow here.
-
I detect a damp squib coming up. Temp now 1c , DP 1c and the frost is disappearing quickly.

Mainly hail and sleet on the coast but we've had more thunder & lightening in the last two nights than all summer
