I think those saying it's all over are being a bit premature. Never even thought it was likely this weekend would end up mild. Even if it does become mild for a few days it certainly looks like turning colder again around Christmas and we may get a lot of snow out of The mild transition.
Agreed, that low hasn’t even passed southern England yet and we won’t know that track until 12 hours before the event.

Mad really isn’t it. We’re in the north and can’t achieve any ‘decent’ snow. Meanwhile those in the south have a slow moving snow machine over their heads. Madness.
They get the warmer summers and the snow in winter. Remind me again why we live in the north? Other than the cheaper pints
Lived in Cheltenham for a number of years, would rather never see a snowflake in my life than live back there

Still waiting to see if this band of precipitation is snow or something I’m going to break both legs on in the morning.

Met Office long range hinting at cold weather conditions until New Year possibly beyond into early Jan. Hopefully with some more widespread snow chances as how amazing would a cold, white Xmas period be! Snow aside and in the shorter term a very cold week to come for all across the NW this week though - daytime highs struggling especially where freezing fog forms & nights sub zero for all.
If this paragraph was a stonking chart I’d bank it

That finger of snowfall from liverpool to Manchester and beyond was shown on ec ops from yesterday morning. It’s verified about twenty miles south
Plenty of snowfall in Merseyside too, had been slightly right.

Never seen anything like it. Worst roads and paths I’ve ever experienced. Ice everywhere, cars frozen, temp 0.5C. Raining.
Looks like the showers will be getting more intense for your area too

WWW.BBC.CO.UKThe ice lines the shore at Ainsdale beach in Sefton, amid the increasingly cold temperatures.Mad, what are the sea temps

Well that’s just typical, looking good for days and at the last minute a shift to Preston. At least it’s going to a true snow starved area and not South.
You might seem some, Irish Sea is pepping up all over the place

Met office prediction radar thingy still shows the streamer / showers over the south of the region.
Quite a lot of showers too, be very surprised if they’re not rain here. I’ve only seen good snow after deep cold for a couple of weeks though so I’d like a couple of weeks of nothing but ice and then a pasting.
can’t see us getting mild pre new years myself

Depends how temperature responds after nightfall I guess. 200m here and 0.2c holding steady.
I have as much elevation as a lead balloon 2 degrees here just down from 3.

Anyone slightly concerned with the overnight temps for snowfall?
Yes, as usual for my area it’ll probably stay at 2 degrees right through the night.

The metoffice forecast a mainly dry day for here today, certainly not turning out that way.
Yeah I didn’t really understand that, no ppn icons but their maps tab on the app has had precipitation for the northwest today and tonight into Saturday for a good few days.

Quite a few 06z models shift the streamer overnight away from Merseyside up towards south cumbria / Morecambe bay area... needs a watch. Somewhere is in for a pasting. Nowcast.
Places like Darwen look like a good bet for snow overnight

I see its doom and gloom in the mod chat for a breakdown next weekend. Christ why don't people enjoy what we have now. Thick frost here, still -2C. We actually didn't dip as low last night as I thought, the coldest part of the night was 4pm-10pm.
Only takes a couple runs for doom and gloom, probably different tomorrow
