  1. @Paul Sherman what's you gut feeling on how this will compare to the BFTE in 2018 in the Southend/East Essex area? 5.3c and falling away here...
  2. Temp starting to fall steadily here on the Essex Riviera - temp 5.6c and pooring down.
  3. Steady rain here and temps slowly starting to fall - 6.2c now and a breeze starting to pick up...I reckon this will be the last time for a week or so we'll see temperatures as high as this if the models are to believed in the medium to long term!
  4. Notice that here too...fed the birds this morning at 8am and it's been relatively quiet this winter for some reason but not this morning...blue/great tits, chaffinches, robins, blackbirds were busily munching. We'll know if we get real cold for a period and that's when the fieldfares start showing up! All prepared and set all my thermometers in my Stevenson Screen and ready with the ruler.
  5. Sadly I wasn't proficient at using SLR cameras back in the day so my dad took the photos I posted but I climbed on top of a lorries freight which was abandoned on the Burnham bends...a drift which was on the east side of it of 15 feet allowed me to do so, incredible sight all around but had no instamatic camera with me at the time to take photos. You couldn't see the main road just the slight glimpse of the odd hedgerow...
  6. Does anybody recollect what sort of snow amounts were forecast in our region before the BFTE episode back in 2018 by the MetO...just wondering if they were accurate back then and if they might be underplaying accumulations, maybe a case of firming up on possible amounts tomorrow?
  7. Burnham in 1987, many roads and lanes were completely drifted over and cut off for 2 days...a plough eventually cleared a single lane.
  8. I'll be doing one too...wanted to do one in 2019 but my pops passed away after caring for him and had to clear out his house. I take it the chases are off the agenda for this year Paul?
  9. Cut the grass!?!...if I did that on my back lawn the rain we've had the lawnmower would go under and me!
  10. Nope...outside chance of there not being the continuous snowfall and maybe just convectional stuff and maybe lower totals but I'd be very surprised if they screw it up within 48 hours!! If that happened now it would be worse than the infamous January 1985 c0ck up!
  11. That's what was amazing about that event here slightly further up on the coast the deepest snow we had at any time in Dec 2010 was 9cms!! Thames streamer set up and we were just on the north side and largely missed out.
  12. I like the way that ties in with Beeb's Sarah Keith Lucas 1.30pm forecast of yesterday 'could be several cm's'
  13. Possible 50 mph gusts!?!...that's what surprised me in the last 'dud' rainy easterly we had back in early January...the breeze!, even on the fax charts it didn't appear to show it to be that breezy but still had average wind speeds of 15-20mph here...so could be looking at winds in excess of that! Certain drifting if any amounts fall. Here in Feb 2012...14cms, Feb/March 2018...13.5cms
  14. Most recent MetO forecast with Alex Deakin was showing marginality/rain for some coastal areas throughout the day and rain for Kent - if they use ECM that wasn't showing any warm sectors near the south east?...A bit confusing.
  15. Strange the MetO still think parts of the south east still could be effected with marginality/rain - I thought ECM (which they use) wasn't showing this of the last couple of runs? If I get more cold rain in my location after weeks and weeks of it I'll drown myself in the River Crouch (probably be drier in there).
  16. Well it hasn't a clue then ...So far ICON/UKMO/GFS (p) partly V GFS I'd certainly trust the euro's over this than the American models.
  17. Isn't that the op (red line) out on it's own though?...If so can't see the problem!
  18. This will probably get lost very quickly in here with all the potential snow talk but it shows just how dire January was particularly in my location...chilly, dull and very very wet! God we need a good dumping of snow!
  19. So that ridiculous snowfall amount anomalies in the other ecm chart which has been regularly posted (which shows 40cms in parts of Suffolk/Norfolk) that was just one of the ensembles showing the most?
  20. Sarah Keith-Lucas at 1.30pm on the BBC news forecast will make you feel less giddy 'could get several cm's'
