The 0z GFS continues to show a rampant Atlantic. I've never seen anything like it at this time of year. It's more like October than February. Astonishing, astonishing, conditions.

Totally agree...when the Atlantic should be somewhat quieter and we get this, a complete conveyor belt.

It’s been mild at times, but the winter has produced some cold days. Not freezing, but cold nevertheless.

Its been a mild winter, but, I’ve still had to wear a hat and gloves from time to time, and I live in London.

Its been disappointing for lack of snow, but I’m now looking forward to warmer weather  and longer days. Still another month or so, before we see a real improvement.

Sorry to disagree with you but here to the east of London (Essex)...i haven't recorded one solitary day with a max below 5c which is poor by ANY winter's standards (and I've been recording winters since 1983/84), we might have had the the odd chilly feeling day due to the wind of late but to say we've experience some cold days this winter is incorrect and misleading and take in respect average temperatures here in the south east generally from mid-December to Mid-February largely have maxes of 7c and what days we have had below this have come in the blander dull calm days.

I think the majority of people wear gloves and scarves in winter particularly if it is windy or people of a certain age, I have but now I'm 50 I feel the 'cold' a little more.

Not every summer since post 2012 has been great either.

I wish people would stop playing down just how poor the summers have been in some regions, especially 2015,16, and 17. All were cloudy and cool at times, despite the hot spikes.

Seriously they haven't been poor...okay we might have had a poorish month (June last year) or a period of cloud and some rain (some Augusts spring to mind) but here in the south east we haven't had a poor summer since 2012. You mention 'some regions' having poor summers, but you can count the south and south east out of that.

I think you need to go back to school and take some more Geography lessons!!!!, our region is South East and East Anglia, try getting a map up to define the boundaries of East Anglia.

Any way, let see how you get on with the next competition

Haha! yes you're right...funny thing is I always have considered this the south east thread (which it use to be) and largely involved the home counties but it is East Anglia as well, my geography is great and one of the few subjects I got an O level at (yes I'm that old) it was everything else I need to go back to school for  ...but yes not doubting you're the winner, it's just the poor circumstances that this countries god dammed awful winter weather provides us with and a sprinkling of snow in a few locations in one day over 90 days of winter!

There was settling snow from Kings Lynn through to and including my location in Lowestoft, also reports of settling snow in the heavier showers further South.

Look at the photo from Norfolk n Chance, a bit more than a slushy deposit.

North Norfolk...this region hmmmm?...but agree that amount from Norfolk n chance photo deserves to win but in this region, where were your photos? but anyway Team Squirrel provided a photo of some wet snow on a Mazda MX5...so that would take it, so you are the winner.

Feel a little bit of sour grapes there!!!!

The competition was for settling snow in the region, and snow settled yesterday in a lot of locations.

I will let you know how my virtual trip to Lapland goes.

I wanted that trophy ...to say a lot of locations?...only photo I have seen was that one in Wycombe (highish location) and on a car but suppose that counts and the reports in north west Norfolk. Well done for winning tho.

Someone turn the conveyor belt off, for gawd sake!!

    Regards,

    Tom.  :hi:

Totally agree Tom!...has anybody counted how many depressions have formed in the North Atlantic since the beginning of December? (not just with the silly names) has to be around 30 I would imagine, can't remember a winter like this for cyclogenesis.

  8. Amazing how I've noted so many people in this region (generally inland) have been recording air frosts even somebody down at Worthing has been recording them but absolutely zilch here this winter! (never happened before) 2.3c with a touch of ground frost here over night but now a beautiful clear sunny day which we haven't seen enough of thanks to the darn Atlantic...

GFS appears to have dropped the idea of a destructive low for next week, will still be a windy week with some rain and showers. Then, the Euro High reasserts itself over C Europe, leading to mild and damp conditions for the UK/NW Europe ?

No surprise there...the dartboard low of the last few days is nowhere near as deep and less well formed which GFS regularly does, agree heights look to strengthen in approx 10 days time over the continent and we're back where we were last year with mild/warm days but probably sunnier and possibly chilly nights (i'd take that as an alternative as there is no chance in hell this winter of getting anything remotely cold).

Most of the ECM ensembles take the storm further north . It’s notable that the lowest pressure readings are reserved for the far north of Scotland .

This is both good and bad news. Less impact for the vast majority of the public but for snow lovers the mild sector is going to be well to the north .

In other words the 'boring' option for us weather lovers or lovers of weather extremes - but that's how it's been going generally all this winter...

Even with the consistency of the last few runs?

I get the GFS has a reputation for overblowing these dartboards, but one of these day it will verify.

£50 of my hypothetical money says upstream in the jet it doesn't develop in that round dartboard shape but flatter and moves somewhat further north west, still be windy though...something of interest in this rubbish winter,
