  1. Well, I was hoping to leave thegarden furniture out a while longer but I think that I will bring it in on Saturday after I have harvested my tatties! That storm looks a beastie with a slightly wintery feel at height. Not that we have not had big storms before at this time of year but they have mostly been old hurricane cores that have brought mild air from the mid/south Atlantic, this one will be a real taste of Autumn.

Still one last chance towards the end of September to enjoy the sun lounger (unless the wife catches me) :)

  2. Very mild humid windy day with a maximum of 22c.Wind went down about 5.00pm so got contractors baler back to bale last field with rake going in front, one round of the field and it broke down. Better luck tomorrow.

Photo of last field of straw nicely spread out by the wind to dry.Posted Image20130902_03.JPG

On the positive side another heifer calved on her own producing a nice bull (boy) calf so today had some successes.

I see in the photo the deciduous trees seem to be turning to their autumn colours fast. The very dry ground will be causing this.

The colours are supposed to be fantastic this year because of the dryness:)

  3. Well some cloud the noo but still very warm and sunny. There sre still some hefty gusts of wind every now and then too, expect these to die down in the next day or so. Actualy got the bus to work this morning so i had th chance to peek out the window more and noticd just how dry the land and crops look. Not the usual lush greens but lots of developing browns and yellows! not had that in a long long while.

  4. Well a great morning in lochgelly and also in Alloa. Almost perfect blue skies! Going to be a warm one today maybe get 25 in Lochgelly. Just wondering how we may be affected by any cloud an haar this weekend?

The GFS is looking like it could be indicating a breakdown next week sometime (just in time for my hols) lol, still to far in FI though i think.

  5. Being a glass half full guy I am thoroughly enjoying the hot weathet and the way I see it the longer this pattern continues the warmer the North Sea surface temp and in turn the greater potential for convective snow come the winter. Win win Posted Image

I think this might have been one of the reasons why we had so much snow the winter following the hot summer of 1976, a good easterly wind bringing in moisture from the north sea!

  6. Cracking day yesterday in Lochgelly, nice and warm with a strong breeze. best part of the day was the evening with mares tails againts a blue sky and just warm enough to sit out and enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the potato's grow :)

Off to Donegal in ireland at the end of the month, would be too much to hope it will last past then :(

  7. Another fantastic day hay completed. Hot sunshine and a maximum of 24c

We have cut turned and baled 28 acres of grass in 6 days almost a record. Took 3 weeks last year last week of July and the first 2 weeks of August. I would describe the hay as American mid west hay it is so dry. Can see patches of yellow drought stressed crop below us on the coastal sands so a shower would be welcome.

Turnips also weeded in the last 2 days

    A couple of hay photosPosted ImageP7100447.JPGPosted ImageP7100449.JPG

Its fantastic t see our local farmers being able to get good crops and good hay making. I was surveying areas in and aroud Dollar in Clackmannanshire yesterday and past around fileds where the farmer was collecting the hay, I cannot thik of a time hen it smelled so sweet! Lovely weather yesterday, very misty and cool in the morning then lovely hot sunshine in the afternoon. Cooled off in the evening with abit of a breeze and cloud, but still lovely!

  8. Well cycled in to work yesterday along route 76 from Dunfermline to Alloa, very pleasant. I then cycled to Dollar for my work and it was roasting, 28 by the time I arrived there. After work I cycled back home via the Fife coastal route through Culross and had a man size cold drink which didnt touch the sides. In the sun there out side of the pub it must have been over 30 degrees because of the shelter. Cracking day. It was also great watching the cloud coming in from the east with a wind change in the evening. I opened all the windows in the house and let the cool air blow trough and what relief!

  9. I don’t know if the MODS will allow me to post this question here but here goes.

As this is the thread where model outputs are discussed I was wondering if those of you with a good knowledge and understanding of charts, projections, oscillations and the like have any idea or want to hazard a guess at how the remainder of summer might pan out from mid July onwards.

I have seen on other weather based web sites that indications for August particularly are not looking too good but weather being what it is I know that can change.

Thanks guys for any help you can give

Netweather do have a long range forecast for summer, it was due to be updated at the end of last month, I am sire it will be up soon.

  10. Again, to avoid confusion those words relate only to the far north – a very good outlook indeed for the bulk of England and Wales and therefore the vast majority of the population of the UK.

Well it certainly is a bit of a downgrade for parts of the central belt and parts of Fife. There could be a lot of cloud associated with the high the way it is but hey, still lots of opportunity for fine and warm weather with the current charts, much better than last year :)

  11. Well a cracking morning this morning, nice and cool with sunshine and the smell of greenery after the rain was just lovely. My garden is growing like crazy, perfect growing weather!. So just waiting for this front to drop its ran tonight and then hopefully a good week of fine sunshine and warm temperatures. I wouldnt be surprised of variable amounts of cloud though through next week depending on the orientation of the high. What a world away from last year.

  12. Is it me?...It must be me! Just read on the MOD that the south east will be the place to avoid during next week's heatwave and that's exactly where I'm going!!   Due to onshore winds, the temperatures will be pegged back to 20/21oC whilst you lot up here are expected to reach 28oC! You couldn't make it up. Don't begrudge you this though, as Scotty is long overdue some good weather after the perpetual cloud and cold temperatures we have had to put up with for what seems like forever. There was me expecting  to look like my avatar by the end of my hols!....(minus the headband) Posted Image

if you looked like your Avatar I would be round for coffee Blizen lol

  13. Lovely start to this morning in lochgelly (5:30am) with sunshine and cloud starting to come in. By the time i was dropping the lovely Mrs Mc at Crombie, there was a lot of cloud coming in fom the west with a few spots of rain. Alloa has had some heavier rain bt very intermitten and still bright at times.

Looking ahead its looking good for a good few days of sunshine although the BBC forecast for Lochgelly on saturday is still rather cloudy but bright with sunny intervals. Will have to be patient and wait till next week for good sunshine.
