  1. I'm very lucky that I work in an environment where there are lovely staff and lovely aircon. I will admit I am terrible in this heat and really think that your partner's boss should be doing his level best to make the working conditions in heatwaves more bearable. Heat can make people feel extremely unwell. You have my full sympathies.
  2. We're just waiting for BBC Carol to give weather for the week. Another thing I'm worried about is all this hay Farmers are feeding livestock is the very hay that should be being fed to them in the winter. This really is going to have knock on ramifications.
  3. I couldn't agree more. I'm down here in Kent. Many if not, most Farmers are now having to feed their livestock. A Farmer friend of mine did mention today that there is talk of portable BBQS being banned for the moment. At the risk of sounding a party pooper I personally think ALL BBQS and fires should currently be banned. As a good friend of mine said and rightly so "it only takes one ember"... absolutely right in these conditions.
  4. Not for me to advise love but I certainly wouldn't send my Daughter in tomorrow if she was like that. I do say this respectfully x
  5. Bloody good for you Dami, an extremely wise decision. I've watched with horror your posts about the school. If my lovely daughter was school age I'd be doing the same.
  6. Tom, I know exactly how the lovely Collette would have felt... When I worked in care the residents hated with a vengeance any window or door being open. We had one extremely difficult elderly resident who would scream at the staff to "shut the doors and windows" even though the temperature was 90 inside and there was a nice little breeze outside. And although the home was lovely and set in beautiful parkland most of them would refuse to go outside in a lovely shady area. Not funny and definitely not a healthy working environment.
  7. Stupid question I know but in view of these ghastly temperatures which are very high would that put extra strain on an aircon system and God forbid it broke down? Genuine question.
  8. Same here Tom.... Fans in the kitchen, sitting room and bedroom. Two in each room.
  9. I'm sorry Mathmatician I have to disagree with you. You are not ranting.... YOU ARE TALKING PERFECT SENSE. Like you I just cannot understand why people are goading for these temperatures. Levels of which are a damned danger to life both human and animal. My husband is twenty years older than me and is mid seventies in age. He has also had the same sort of health problems as the lovely TomSE12, I had heart surgery in the latter half of last year (new valve) and am also asthmatic, add into that the flock of sheep I look after who although they have plenty of shade, water and grazing are panting away. I am bloody sick with worry about what is looking increasingly likely to come temperature wise. I am totally in agreement with what you say. Why the hell there aren't Red Warnings appearing I really do not know.
  10. I might just mention for those of us on here with elderly relatives do keep an eye on their fluid intake. A Facebook group I'm on, we have put a bit of a heat warning out. In the comments one lovely lady went round to her elderly Mother's house in the morning. Mother was confused, wobbly and very dehydrated. Plenty of drinks later Mother was back to normal and well. However if she is not at the house the Daughter is ringing Mother hourly and reminding her to drink and has filled the fridge with drinks, as a caveat to that, elderly hands cannot lift these heavy water bottles so its worth making sure that whatever they are drinking out of is easy for them to lift.
  11. Don't knock it love, the word "kaftan" is weighing very heavily on my mind at present....
  12. Without being dramatic I am really concerned about how many people will fall foul of this heatwave. There are so many vulnerable groups to be concerned about... I truly think anyone imploding with excitement at these temperatures needs to have a word with themselves.... In the UK we really do not have things in place to cope with this heat and I worry about the dire consequences of that.... I don't know much about weather warnings but I enjoy following this lovely site... I really do hope the Met Office start driving home the real danger of this heat very soon. I know many areas are on amber but for some I think the stark consequences of this heat really need to be spelt out, for both humans AND animals.
  13. Well, I don't know naff all about these models but I hope the awful temps talked about yesterday don't come to fruition. To me that seems to be very major heat and threatening to people's health and welfare, as well as animals. As it is, I agree its going to be a difficult week.
  14. Absolutely couldn't agree more, it's been very close down here in Kent and I'm currently on steroids for Asthma, add into that Open Heart Surgery last year and I'm going to be extremely careful. I've just ordered 3 fans coming tonight from Amazon. I note you say about the NHS, that's spot on too. There are so many high risk groups that are really going to have to be watchful. Many elderly folk are utter tinkers and do not take in enough fluid. I hope I'm wrong but I think if this all comes off (which I think it may well do, hence the 3 fans) I think the NHS is going to see a fair few heat related admissions.
  15. Hi everyone bit of advice, got to get from Tunbridge Wells to East Grinstead, does anyone local have thoughts on road conditions. I'd be on the A264.
  16. Blowing a hooley down here in Tunbridge Wells.
  17. Damn right it isn't Surrey, just out of interest what time is that squall line due to come through. Very gusty here in Tunbridge Wells.
  18. And as this starts to hit there are only three words really.... "stay safe all"
  19. That thought has crossed my mind, by morning it will be too late to change any plans.
  20. Jesus Christ.... Daughter's boss has just messaged through... Daughter not working tomorrow so we don't have to travel. Thank the Lord..
  21. That is what I'd like to know Moogy. I think I will be sleeping downstairs anyway tonight as I want to be about early tomorrow morning.
  22. Whats the app? I may just put it on my phone.... *heads to google play store!!
