  1. Not sure where the snow is going to come from. The radar looks like the precipitation is dying out
  2. Just had a really heavy snow shower here for past half hour! Roads are covered again, and by looking at the radar there seems to be more to come?
  3. I've noticed that the weather warning has been took off now for South Yorkshire :-( Very dissapointing.
  4. Not at all. I only come on in the winter for the exactly same thing Also, personally, I'd rather it be mild and dry than cold and dry as when there's cold weather I only see it worthwhile with snow. However, I can still appreciate when a cold spell is a good one even if there's isn't metres worth of snow. We've just got to remember this spell has actually been a countrywide spell, something we don't see that often, and the snow has stuck around for quite a while (well, in inland areas it has). In terms of it being a great winter though, it looks like it's localised as John Holmes was saying it's worst snowfall where he lives for 30 years, yet for me it's more like 10-15 years, yet we both live in South Yorkshire. Maybe it just helps me with the amount of letdowns I've seen since model watching in winter since I joined this forum! Anyway, those showers are looking extremely tasty! Lewis, I assume those are the ones heading for North and East Yorkshire?
  5. Why isn't it a fair comparison? I said that snow isn't the only thing that determines how great a cold spell is, whereas you said it is. I don't want to argue anyway All the showers seem to be dying as they move inland unfortunately
  6. Right,so a 2 day toppler with 2 inch of snow is a greater cold spell than a 1 month dryish spell with 1 inch of continuous snow cover and with temperatures always 1 degree or below?
  7. Some have, some haven't. You've got to remember we've had cold weather since before xmas! I've had laying snow cover for many weeks now, something that hasn't happened for a long long time. The quantity of snow doesn't determine whether a cold spell is a great one or not.
  8. I don't know what the netweather 16 day extra detail forecast has been drinking, but it's showing snow for me for every hour every day from Sunday upto Thursday
  9. Thanks Lewis, not only for that quick forecast you've done for us just then, but for the time you've put into this site during the cold spell keeping us updated. We don't have any of the really (well, what I class as) "big" guns i.e. BFTP, GP, Steve Murr etc, apart from John Holmes, so it's nice having another person who obviously knows his stuff helping us all out.
  10. I've been trying to figure out if they're going to hit South Yorkshire, and by looking at the net weather radar I would say the showers are moving in a SW direction and could quite possibly do so?
  11. New weather warning out: Yorkshire & Humber: E Riding of Yorkshire Kingston upon Hull N Lincolnshire N Yorkshire NE Lincolnshire York Heavy Snow1415 Thu 70600 Fri 8Snow showers will be heavy at times giving accumulations of 2 to 5 cm and possibly up to 10 cm in places. 12. Quite a few beefy showers showing up on the coast atm! Hopefully they'll push far inland :-)
  13. Weatherman just been on BBC giving a brief update...he's just said that there's absolutely no sign of an end to the cold weather!! From the BBC that is something quite special for them to say it!!
  14. Don't worry, they are quite possibly heading for me, so they won't be wasted
  15. Thanks :-) Good luck all for tonight! You gets to the east look like you're getting ready for some really beefy showers atm!
  16. What did it look like for a Sheffield point of view? I missed the forecast :-(
  17. You're probably right there! They seem to shut down if they get 1cm, where as we'll be mowing our lawns come tomorrow morning! STILL snowing here. It's been light most of the day though but I'm not complaining. It's better than that rubbish dry stuff we got at the weekend as well!
  18. I know this is for the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire/Pennines region, but has anyone seen the metoffice warning for the South? I've never seen them give a red warning before for snow. Lucky people!! London & South East England: Hampshire Oxfordshire Southampton W Berkshire Very Heavy Snowfall2000 Tue 51100 Wed 6There is a high risk of an extreme weather event affecting parts of Southern England this evening and overnight. A period of exceptionally heavy snowfall is expected with accumulations of 15-30 cm and perhaps in excess of 40 cm. This is expected to cause widespread disruption to the transport network and could lead to problems with power supplies.
  19. My accumulations so far are: back garden path - 8cm to 12cm pond side - 11cm - 12cm table - 10cm to 16cm drive - 9cm to 11cm car roof - 8cm garden - 15cm to 16cm Here's some pictures for you (hope it works!):
