  1. John, I know a few days in weather terms is a long time, but upto this weekend can you see there being anymore significant snow like everyones experienced today? I shall take some measurements for you again in 5 minutes when I've just finished this bit of work.....unfortunately I have a laptop for work so I will never be able to get a day off work due to snow anymore! Working from home does have its bad points!
  2. How come I'm probably one of the highest in Sheffield yet I only get a couple of inches, lol
  3. Personally I'm not expecting much from this at all, maybe 1cm. I think a lot of people are going to be dissapointed with tonights/tomorrows snow as it seems to be getting ramped up quite a lot when it only looks like light/medium snow IMO, and only a couple of hours worth, if that (apart from a few small locations). Then again, I'm not a weather forecaster, and I'm rubbish at reading charts, so I'm probably (and hopefully) wrong!
  4. Because someone has switched that blased Sheffield snow repeller on again!
  5. Just got back from sledging....extremely heavy snow in S6! It's about time we got something from this cold spell, lol.must have been between 5-10cms
  6. Heavy snow up in Stannington now. Looks like a good 2 hours of this from looking at radar. Should get at least an inch from this.
  7. Yeh, they seem to be weakening, however, it has started snowing up here now! (I'm on the very west edge of Sheffield near Hillsborough)
  8. Frustrating isn't it There's some beefy showers which look like they *might* make it across the pennines and give Sheffield a direct hit *fingers crossed*
  9. It's quite funny as I've looked at the radar and out of the whole big front moving south over the country atm, Sheffield gets the smallest part of the front possible! I asusme Leeds was the same as well, lol. I'm not keeping my hopes up for anything else now. Tonight was meant to be the big night for me, but by the looks of it it's not going to happen...maybe I should judge it when it's finished though! I'm very jealous of everyone else atm Make sure you all have a snowball fight for me!
  10. Yup. I've got a bit of snow here, but it's rain down at lower levels. Also, by the looks of the netweather radar there's not going to be much more to come. What a let down!
  11. How do you think I feel...I'm classed as being in the East and North of the Uk, yet get absolutely nothing (well, nothing worth writing about!) Bring back the 2 day topplers as they actually deliver!
  12. I'm not convinced of that tbh. Had weather forecast on but all they are saying is that it's going to be cold and sunny on Saturday and Sunday unfortunately.
  13. I'd agree with that. I keep looking at the radar and there's a massive area between all the snow and it's typical Sheffield is in line with the blank area, and was exactly the same as yesterday. Even the northerly isn't going to bring anything for us neither! If these synoptics are the best for 20 years or whatever people have said then I'd rather have the 2 day topplers where I actually get something! Sorry if I sound grumpy, lol. I'm happy (and jealous!) for you all whose got decent snowfall.
  14. Has anyone watched Michael Fish's forecast? Unfortuantely for me it looks like it's going to be a non-event (for my area). Maybe a slight covering of snow but that's it, which is very dissapointing after all the hype and the people opinions I respect saying these synoptics being brilliant etc :-( Good luck to everyone else though, looks like you should see some
  15. I'd imagine that radar is just a sort of forecasting tool where the conditions at that location are ideal for rain/sleet/snow, but doesn't mean it is that precipitation type (yet)
  16. Is that 10 days+ from today onwards though? Or 10 days + since it started a few days ago?
  17. Argh, that's a shame! Could do with it being on each thread for each user...there's like 100 users I want to ignore, lol Poor you having to read them all!
  18. How do you block members? I'm sick of reading some of the drivel members post about downgrades!
  19. Exactly, look at the 850s below...there's divergence from as early as T48!! It shows how hard the models are finding it to deal with these synoptics, which I think is a good thing as it shows anything is possible, and atm it might seem unlikely for the North to get much, but that could so easily change. Saying that, if it does come off then I think hats off to GFS as it has been remarkably consistent, and even when it has "downgraded" it hasn't been by much, and you don't expect the exact charts to come off anyway. Time will tell I guess which is correct though.
  20. John! You should know better being a pro than to go ramping! You'll cause meltdown on here, lol It certainly is looking good though. It's concerning that the ECM keeps being undecided, but I guess it's such a hard pattern to handle. I'm still siding with the ECM (to try cushion the blow if it does go pear shaped), but I must admit it's starting to get harder each run not to get excited bearing in mind we're already pretty much about to start the whole show in a day or so! Truely amazing synoptics whatever happens. I'm just hoping the new GFS parallel model is correct...if not then I've got a feeling it's going to be causing quite a lot of heartbreaks in the future when it replaces the old GFS with the sort of things it's been showing, lol We just need Steves model tracker to come back now *hint hint hint*
  21. I'm surprised no-one has commented on the ensembles! I think they're cracking with a mild outlier from the 17th I still don't think it'll happen but it does get more encouraging as time goes by, especially with the ECM now on board.
  22. Since what year do you class winters as being modern? Personally I've just seen snow laying on the ground for the past 2 weeks (even with temperatures as high as 6c) with no rapid thawing. I've also seen snow fall on at least the quarter of those days. To me that is something I have not seen for a long long time. Has it been a classic winter as in 62/63? No, it hasn't Has it been a even larger teapot? No it hasn't It's been nothing magical but it's been nothing bad neither. How often can we say we've had a cold period where the WHOLE country has seen snowfall?
  23. Check the radar forecast : http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/...cast_radar.html Also: http://www.meteociel.fr/accueil/radar.php Still a lot more snow to come. This is only the start of it
