Some real opportunities for quite a few coming in over the next week, as that cut off low loiters out to our SW! The South and Southwest could see some decent SB storms forming over the warm seas underneath that cooling air above. Waterspouts definitely not out of the question either! Widespread activity looking likely after this weekend.

For me, it was far better than expected, so much so I didn’t have to even head for a quick chase. The fact that I had work put a big lid on things for me, as I would’ve probably been up all night monitoring the radar. Last night was that one rare occasion where things actually happened further west than what the models suggested. I just about woke up in time to see some amazing distant lightning exiting North Norfolk at around 3AM, followed by the main complex approaching from the S at 04:30-05:00AM. A decent night/morning on what has been a very poor year, especially given the heat we have had. Just goes to show that you need the high dew points, and a trigger or cooler air nearby in order to create a buoyant atmosphere, otherwise the heat is just useless.

Anyone chasing tonight, I would stick with anywhere east of the IOW to the Wash, this is going by the average call by the high res models. Going to be very touch and go for me. I’m literally right on the boundary of the warning lines. Likely I will see a good show to my direct East and Southeast if I stay put. A small trip along the A47 towards Nodge could be required.

I’d say if you’re seeking somewhere for the best variety of weather in the UK, the best place has to be Lincolnshire. It sees the most storms, usually warm in summer (now holds the all time UK record temperature!) and usually does very good in an easterly setup (longer sea track, more snow). Doesn’t do too badly in a Northerly cold snap either, especially near the coast.

I may have an early sleep tomorrow after work, and then have a nocturnal chase if things kick off to the East and Southeast (hopefully overhead really!). I’m right on the edge of the risk by the looks of it. It’ll be straight to work after the chase though at 6am! (What’s the betting that’ll be when it all kicks off!!)

My eyes are now focusing on Wednesday and Thursday. Quite a bit of potential for something big over them two days heading NE out of Biscay and France. At the moment, it’s looking like the usual IOW to Lincs/EA and Eastwards line, but something to keep a watch on. Quite a bit of decent CAPE overlapped by some decent shear.
