  1. Meanwhile in Northern Scotland, they’ve got more or less a MCS! Unbelievable.
  2. Seems like a cumulus field developing to my S, where the sea breezes are converging. Stifling hot here now.
  3. For me, and for many others, it’s very uplifting and fantastic weather, given how we are just recovering from the pandemic and many whom have been stuck in and afraid to venture out. A good dosage of vitamin D and a refreshing walk along the coast (where there has often been a cooling sea breeze) is good for everyone. There’s many positives to take from this summer. I get it that at times, it has been too much. But I’m surprised at how so many are seemingly wishing the nice warm weather away! It won’t be long until the cold returns, and of course having to switch the heating on with the added dread of the rates at which we will be charged at.
  4. I do understand it. I’ve been looking after my grandparents and offering them every bit of support I have in dealing with this weather. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea I know, and it’s been too hot even for me when we had 37-40c. However, I’m being careful what I wish for, and highlighting how remarkable this summer has been.
  5. I’ve been on this forum for over a decade, so no, I won’t just “be gone”. I’ve even stated that 40c was too much, so that is relevant to this thread.
  6. You’ll never be able to please every Brit in the country. I can assure you that many will be reminiscing on this extraordinary summer when we have the misery of endless floods and a summer where we barely get above 30c. We still mention 2006 and of course 2018 when the chips are down and being rained off from going anywhere or getting any outdoor work done or even drying the washing.
  7. You couldn’t write this. This summer is en route to rival 1976. This one going by extremes has already bettered it in my opinion. To be potentially coming close to the 2019 all time temperature record a second time round is pure insanity. One thing that’s been very noticeable around here is the absence of North Sea mist/crud!!! We’ve had plenty of days with an East to Northeast wind here, but I can’t recall seeing any low cloud since at least May. Must be due to the higher sea temperatures I can only assume.
  8. 2007-2012 was exceptionally bad. I did not recall a single decent night storm within any summer in all of those years above. I thought they had become a thing of the past until July 2013. I believe it’s luck of the draw in all honesty. The weather in this part of the world is like a lottery and unpredictable. I am thinking we aren’t done yet and we may see a significant uptick towards the end of august into September, with some perhaps very peculiar set ups. Given how warm the surrounding seas are, they could currently yield 18-19c dew points at the coast. Continuous high pressure I believe has been largely to blame so far, thus resulting in lack of CAPE and a non buoyant atmosphere.
  9. Could deliver some much needed rain down the east, and even generate some storms given the high sea temps, albeit from the most unlikely source, the North Sea!!
  10. Even tomorrow, a low with decreasing heights at 500hpa overlapping very warm and humid conditions across the country would usually give some decent ingredients. What on earth is going on!? As mentioned above, the abnormally high sea temps in the North Sea, also the channel being very warm too should definitely help once we see the autumnal lows set in. 20-21c sea temps compared to typically 15-16 would make a huge difference in instability levels.
  11. Has to be that. Even France and Benelux by their standards have had very little activity compared to other years, where they usually see a massive MCC or MCS’s drifting up from the Pyrenees. I can’t help thinking we may get a more stormy September given how warm the BoB and surrounding seas will be as we kick off autumn. There must be some extra heat retained given how hot and rainless it’s been. Also to add, most of the Mediterranean is at or above 27-28c!! With a few spots near 30! That’s more than enough to sustain a powerful hurricane, so it’ll be interesting if we see a Medicane form. I’m also expecting a very strong and perhaps catastrophic Valencian monsoon in autumn other wise known as the Gota Fria.
  12. Getting tedious now. I’ve not known a year like it. All the heat in the world, and nothing to show for it. Is it the lack of ground moisture? Or different parts of the world seeing more anomalous moisture and potential? Or just a lack of cold air above and less temperature differentiation I.e poor lapse rates? God knows. Here’s an awesome microburst in the Las Vegas valley two days ago just incase you forgot what an amazing storm looks like!
  13. Sky is darkening. Just waiting for some small bright red echoes to break out. Destabilisation is certainly happening. I bet we see it all kick off out over the N Sea by 01:00. Usually our luck!!
  14. Seeing so much AcCas floccus skirting over me here. Some of the models show something kicking off over N Norfolk tonight and racing NE. Reminds me of August 2020 when the Norfolk coast got treated to the mother of all distant displays. If I was just going by the atmosphere and sky, I would have called this a loaded gun scenario. Why is there so little CAPE and instability this year!?!!!!
  15. For me, 2011 has to be the worst. A total snoozefest, apart from the El Gordo plume. 2008 I’d place in second. At least 2007 and 2012 had some interesting weather despite how cool and rainy they were.
  16. Still in shock at the record breaking 19th of July. It was actually quite eerie, like being in a burning pit of hell hearing the sound of a howling wind in temps nearing 40c and apocalyptic fires nearby, like the beast from the east right at the other end of the scale. I don’t think and I actually hope we don’t see many more days like that to come. It was very unpleasant, unsettling and about as extreme as you can currently get here. We had a taste of how it feels in places like Greece and Spain very close to home, with regard to the fires and scorching winds.
  17. Yep that’s not good. This area has been battered by wildfires today. We could do without any more.
  18. Knew I wasn’t imagining it. Can see that from here in Lynn. Pretty impressive!!
  19. Only in the UK could we make a complete shambles on how an official temperature is measured! I saw 40c on XCweather for a good couple of hours at Coningsby. There’s no doubt temperatures would have got above that locally too, official or not.
  20. Look at all that activity between Shetland and Norway! What an absolute waste.
  21. Currently getting some big convective drops now from the stuff ahead of it!
  22. Big blue flashes seen to the S!!! Bring it on. Dying for a bit of rain
