  1. Dumas, which was hit by a tornado causing extensive damage earlier today has another very pronounced couplet bearing down on it. It could well be hit again as that couplet is as strong as the the previous one which passed through. This is the radar as The earlier tornado hit: And this is what is bearing down on the town now
  2. I too have recently reformatted and forgot to save my favourites I have been just googling key phrases since then to find some of the pages I used. I'll try and recompile a list and let you know them. Out of interest. I've been following this through the night and there is one hell of a nasty lookig cell about to slam Dodge City - Kansas. Has had two confirmed tornadoes already and despite being almost over the radar site, it still looks tornadic at the moment. I hope to hell it isn't laing down a tornado at this hour.
  3. Yep.. very pleased with my position today Not sure if a tornado dropped near Wheeler, but I would have been in prime position if it had. Then again if I'd continued over to Mclean like I originally said this afternoon, I probably wouldn't have had to chase at all and I very likely would have bagged the tornado without moving a mile from my afternoon start point.
  4. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN AMARILLO HAS ISSUED A * TORNADO WARNING FOR... SOUTHEASTERN GRAY COUNTY IN THE PANHANDLE OF TEXAS SOUTHWESTERN WHEELER COUNTY IN THE PANHANDLE OF TEXAS * UNTIL 645 PM CST * AT 602 PM CST...LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT REPORTED A TORNADO NEAR MCLEAN...OR ABOUT 20 MILES WEST OF SHAMROCK...MOVING NORTHEAST AT 40 MPH. * LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... KELLERVILLE... MCLEAN... This is the storm currently heading for my current position in Wheeler
  5. The 2 northern cells appear to be struggling slightly, but the third southernmost cell is looking good at the moment. It's also heading right for Wheeler down the line which is close to where I would be positioning myself right now.
  6. OK.. Sitting in Shamrock still I should have a nice view of the explosive supercells forming to the south west. Preparing to head north as I think the storms need a little more time to get organised and I'd rather not chase these storms from behind iff possible but be in position if and when they go tornadic. Severe thunderstorm warning now in effect for Donley County - Southwest of Wheeler County...
  7. I'm tempted to move a little further west now. Seems like some nice CU fields in the Texas panhandle and also up into Kansas, and if anything does go up, it would not take long to go severe and then tornadic. I wouldn't venture too far into Texas though as with fast storm motions, I do not want to get left behind. McLean would be the farthest west and I'd like to stay on I40 for quick travel back east should it be necessary. I would have probably started moving a little earlier once the CU fields started to become apparent on satellite but I had real life duties to attend to  Edit: I think I'll actually stop at Shamrock. Gives me better road options south towards Childress whilst maintaining east/west options.
  8. Is staying up until 6:00am just to see the new Day 1 outlook considered a sympton of this? I guess if I'm going to virtual storm chase, I may as well sleep in the correct time zone to do it? The morning update has brought a slightly increased moderate area, with a large 15% sig. tornado warning over most of Western Oklahoma, extending into KS and TX. The new 2 Day has a large moderate risk out for LA and AK with hatched 45% probability of severe weather. I see no reason to shift my target yet from Clinton although I'm keeping an eye on more southerly options at the moment. Time to grab 6 hours sleep or so and I'll update the situation then.
  9. Tough choice.... I've been keeping an eye on this system for a while but can't say I have looked into the specifics too deeply as I've been busy with other stuff... Woodward seems as fine a place as any to start - good chase country as is most of Oklahoma, and decent road choices but I think I'll put my start location a little south and east. Clinton, Oklahoma would be my overnight stop, with a readjustment if necessary tomorrow morning.
  10. It was pretty terrible here considering my position on the East Coast. One light dusting on Tuesday morning and the rest fell as hail and sleet or even rain at times. One of the hailstorms was quite impressive though but very localised. Hail up to pea sized and a covering of the pavements. It was literally a case of having no hail on the ground, walking 100 metres and it being white over and then walking a further 250 metres and there was no hail again. That storm looked quite pretty from the back too. Shame I didn't have my camera with me that day.
  11. I can see lots of snow showers streming by the coast from my office here, but only one has come close enough to give us a dusting at about 10:00am ish. It does look like there are seom darker clouds heading inland to the north though, so we may get another snow shower or two yet.
  12. I just woke up to a light covering of snow for the first time this winter
  13. Bitterly Cold with frequent hail and rain. The hail is quite intense at times and makes the ground a bit slushy, although the amount of water on the ground means it isn't sticking for long.
  14. Had a distant storm pass by earlier this afternoon with a few rumbles of thunder, and then another pass much closer a bit later. Neither were close enough to bring any rain, but we had a sharp downpour between the two storms passig through
  15. We've has a couple of thunderstorms pass by with some very bright lightning and loud crashes of thunder. The main thing of note though which was the rain which was long lasting an intense. The road in front of my house drains very well and it was like a stream at one point. A neighbour rang us to warn us not to drive out of the lower exit to our road as it was flooded..I'd have gone out with my camera if it wasn't out of battery thanks to my dad using it to take a 5 minute long movie of a kettle sat on a table because he was obviously bored
  16. Had a nice thunderstorm pass overhead earlier this afternoon whilst I was at work. Some heavy rain accompanied the storm which lasted about 30 minutes.
  17. Just had a loud crash of thunder and a bright flash of lightning which came with the start of a huge downpour here.
  18. Some bright flashes lighing up the sky to the south. Still probably about 10 miles away I reckon, so I'll stay up and see what I can catch on camera...
  19. WEll I went on a pathetic excuse for a chase and caught a storm near Bridlington. Have now rushed home as it's heading this way and it looks to be closing in. Makes the chase rather pointless if it's going to hit here anyways There was 4 or 5 CG bolts I saw, but was driving at the time and the terrain was hilly with the only parking area down in a valley. hopefully, it wil lstill be electric when it catches me..
  20. Had a big storm come through 12:00-12:30ish. Frequent lightning and constant thunder along with torrential rain. Could hear the thunder for at least half an hour more as the storm moved North towards Whitby.
  21. Further to my previous request, is there anyone out here who can confirm that these weather stations allow you to automatically download the data to a computer and then let you use this data in whatever way you need. It is important that the whole process will need to be automated, but I am not sure if extra software will be needed to log the data from the weather station or not. Also, if anyone can recommend a specific make or model of weatherstation that would be great
  22. Yes. I got this info and am forwarding it on. Thanks for yur help mate...
  23. The organisation I work for has a intranet on which there is a weather page. Currently, it displays the weather condition, and temperature, but these are taken from a thermometer in the morning and left all day making them inaccurate. One of the web team suggested getting a weather station and increasing the stats available. The weather station they want to purchase should be Wireless, and should be able to output temperature (current, min and max) wind speeds, humidiyty, pressure, and rainfall to a computer in a raw feed so the web team can update a page with this information in real time. Obviously, the cheaper this is the better, but it would need to be reliable too. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best solution for this job? Also as an alternative, if anyone knows of anyone who supplies this sort of weather data at a price for the Scarborough area, maybe that would be another option assuming it is cheap enough It needs to be legal and accurate, so no leeching information from the metoffice or netweather without paying Thanks!
  24. Looking at those screenshots, does baron system only give composite reflectivity? If so how do you access individual titlts whilst on the move? I'd think that observing hooks on the lowest levels of storms would be a great way of identifying the best storm to intercept. Is that just a limitation of the barons system? Anyway.. Good luck tomorrow. I'll be hoping for some more action closer to home again. I even saw some weak rotation in a thunderstorm today
  25. Had another electrical storm rumble to the south of here at about 5:00pm. Some crazy cloud motions right above me as I looked up into the northern edge. Scuddy clouds were moving in every direction, and eventually, they formed a horizontal circular arc of cloud. I have no idea if there was any lowering being right under it, but it was interesting to look at anyway. The last storm apparently came through between 8:30pm and 9:30pm but I was inside and oblivious. Apparently, it left a couple of inches of water on our patio, and was accompanied by pea sized hail and frequent purple CG lightning. Shame I missed that. I'd usually be home by 8:30 on a Friday but was delayed today....
