  1. Looks like it's quiet again here, been a while since I've heard any distant rumbles. I'd be surprised if this is the last we get though as there looks like more out to the west coming this way. Might miss to the north if I'm unlucky.. Anyway, here's a pic I posted in the othe thread for those who missed it The lightning was a georgeous pink colour, and the thunder was the best I've heard in a long time!
  2. Some really loud loud crackling thunder right now, and a heavy doewnpous. This is amazing
  3. Some flashes of lightning here, and the sky has gone as dark as night... Looks like some really potent storms out to the west too...
  4. I think they are way to high in Tenessee if thats where they are. All of last nights stormed which stayed active through today would have cleaned that area out of decent moisture. That and the fact that the area has been cloud covered all day and won't have much in the way of CAPE compared to further south means they surely must have meant Jackson, Mississipi? I know they were discussing driving to Alabama last night so I don't see why they would have chased further north when the best action was progged further south anyway..
  5. I see a few towers going up on satellite and a few cells forming on the OKC radar now. So far it seems to be mainly to the East of the metro.
  6. Whatever happens today, don't put yourself too far from tomorrows action. Looks like it will be a very significant event with the best tornado potential of your trip to date. Already a moderate risk, and I wouldn't be completely surprised if Tor threat warrants a high risk. That will be very dependant on tonights action however
  7. The latest SPC highlights two chase areas really.. Central-Eastern KS/ Southern NE or Central TX Eastward through to the US East Coast. Lots of chase country available to you. As tomorrows chase is likely going to be in the area between both these chase locations I don't think that should affect your decision too much. I'd have thought that Kansas chase country would be best, but then the road network in Central Texas might be better. Either way, if you are still in Amarillo, I think that you are too far West, and should think about moving either NE to Kansas or East to Central Texas. From there, you can probably narrow down a start location closer to initiation...
  8. There are some stunning pictures on StormTrack.org's forum, and an insane hail video by Reed Timmer. Link is http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=11227
  9. Missouri has more than 28 earlier this year in 24 hours on March 12th (32 I think). That is probably a record for Ohio, but certainly not for a state. There were over 60 tornados in the May 3rd 1999 outbreak between Kansas and Oklahoma alone, so whilst significant, last nights action is nothing out of the ordinary.
  10. The team must be spoilt for choice at this point in time! 4 tornado warned cells around Abilene's radar site Further west, theres a cell with a confirmed tornado near Patricia in Martin County. The southern most cell in Coleman County has developed a nice tight couplet on lowest scans, and has a nice hook in that area to boot. I'd hate to be in their position to have to choose which storm to follow. This cell is the small one I mentioned earlier btw which crossed the outflow boundary by San Angelo. It bloomed into an awesome cell as I expected Also as I post this a wicked hook has formed on the Eastland county storm. Too much going on to keep up  Edit: Tornado confirmed on the Coleman County Cell by storm chasers..
  11. Caught this on a webcam earlier Who needs to pay thousands of £££ when you can do everything in front of you PC
  12. A couple of cells have fired to the west of San Angelo, and what looks like a NW-SE oriented outflow boundary is visible to the NE of San Angelo moving W. I'm very interested to see what happens when they meet. I'd expect some sort of fireworks  Classic hook looks to be developing on the Taylor County supercell too. It looked crowded out earlier, but has absorbed all the other cels near it and now stands alone. One to keep an eye on, and I suspect it is the cell the chase team are on Edit: Just gone Tor Warned...
  13. What exactly is the terrain like around that area? How far south can you feasibly chase before running into the hills of Southern Texas? I have no real idea about the idea, just memories of a lot of chase reports moaning about that area for chasing
  14. I think the main issue today is probably going to be the terrain.. I think Texas gets quite hilly and wooded south of I-10, which is obviously problematic for chasing. I'd therefore hope the action isn't as far south as the SPC are thinking. My start location for today would be around San Angelo. Probably not an ideal spot, but taking into account road networks and wifi access is important, even if it is a virtual chase. All good practice for when I hopefully get out there next year (fingers crossed) Another possibility would be further toward Odessa looking for some action later on. Looking over yesterdays highlights, some of the late forming cells in that area were absolute classics and stayed discrete!, I think a similar situation is possible today B)
  15. Storm with strong rotation and classic hook echo about to enter Seminole. This is near the NM border on the most recent set of cells to blow up but if that ain't tornadoing now I'll be a little surprised
  16. Those storms in McCulloch, Concho and Brady counties are showing obscene sized hail on Grlevel 3. I'm surprised to not see that many hail reports from the SPC regarding these cells. Maybe the area is just very rural. I know if I was chasing it, I'd stay well away from the core These look like the best cells of the day so far with 1 tornado report. I know the guys were based up in Childress again today which is a bti north. Hopefully they've gotten South fast enough. If not theres a fair number of areas to the west which are developing nice storms now so not a total loss. I'm going to assume by the forum silence that they are mid chase on those awesome cells! :- )
  17. Theres a huge cell east of San Angelo at the moment. BR at 72.5Dbz and VIL upto 72.5kg/m2. Algorithms predicting 4" hail at the moment with this cell!
  18. Just got in and taken a look at the latest data. I see no reason to change from my inital thoughts about Abilene. Looks to be some CU fields a little to the west which are likely going to be the start of tonights action. There is a MD out for the area and I'd expect a Svr TS box to go up for the area within the next hour or so. Again, tornado threat should be marginal but that hasn't stopped you so far My tip for the night is keep a close eye on the radars, and watch for any outflow boundaries, as that is what gifted you your funnel (I'll play safe as it hasn't technically been confirmed yet ) It was quite amazing watching the boundary propogate south on grlevel3 and just whip the 2 southerly cells into classic rotating supercells as it passed through within a few frames. Good luck with todays chase!
  19. Today is a real complicated setup, what with the immense convection yesterday creating some interesting possibilites with outflow boundaries all over the place. We saw yesterday what happened when an outflow boundary plunged south and draggeed the Kent County storm with it. I'd say Abilene for a start location today, but thing are certain to change close to the time things get started. I'll probably refine this later though B) I'm currently 2 for 2 on predicting initiation locations, and I think today is going to end that 'streak' You could always catch a plane back and chase the UK btw looking at the Estofex forecast Supercells, MCS' and possibility of tornadoes forecast in the UK by Estofex for today. I might be a bit quiet if things get active close to me as I'll probably go chasing too...
  20. Good thing is the right most cell has been virtually stationary for over an hour now. The other cell has come along and they are both dragging south, but they really are the only things worth chasing out there. The guys (and almost every other chaser out there) are probably swarming all over this storm. If it was dropping a tornado I'm sure it would have been reported by now, so I don't think thats the case, but it looks such a beauty of a storm I don't think anyone on it would comlpain if it didn't drop one  Edit: Latest warning reports that a funnel cloud has been spotted with this storm!
  21. I find the extent of the panhandle which this storm system has enveloped is pretty amazing. Here's the last visible satellite shot we'll get tonight! Thats one huge anvil there!
  22. There is a really nice hook showing on this cell.. Edit: Kent County has gone Tor warned again for the right most hook on that picture...
  23. Two Cells which are itneresting me at the moment.. The aforementioned Floyd County Cell, Crossing over into Motley County. Further South the cell in North West Kent County also looks good. This maybe a better storm in the long run as it has very little to the south of it. The cell over lubbock looks huge but being over the radar site, it's hard to make out itts structure... It also looks like it will have it's style cramped by surrounding cells. I don't see any indication of rotation on any of the cells but VIL returns are rising fast, and they will likely become very potent hailers soon...
  24. A cell has formed NE of Floydada in Floyd County. That is heading in the Childress County direction. Should stay discrete for a while before the rest of the cells explode. That would by my preliminary target, moving south once it gets crowded out by other cells.
  25. There are a few cells showing tops to 37K around lubbock now, adn the CU feild stretches East. I'm not sure anything will fire much further North, but storm motion should send the storms in the direction of Childress. It should all be of the MCS variety rather than anything photogenic. Might be a chance for some shelf clouds and obviously some lightning shots, but I'd say tornadoes are unlikely today.
