    Just got woken by very heavy rain. No thunder yet but very dark and stormy looking skies.

    Makes a nice change to see storms actually intensifying as they leave France. Meanwhile after the earlier madness, we have sunny clear blue skies here now.

    Just driven home from work through biblical rain, thunder and lightning, lovely! And having just checked the radar, it looks more like what we usually see over France!

    Seeing first flashes of lightning to the south now! Sky looks very stormy!

    Tbh I had low expectations for tonight, but looking at what's happening in the channel and France I'm starting to get quite excited. Best bit is it seems to be developing quite rapidly.

    Gone pretty dark here, looks and feels quite thundery but frustratingly it looks like that cell is skirting just to the south of me.

    Hail, thunder and lightning here, albeit brief.

    The wind here is nothing out of the ordinary either. It's been all about the rain today, torrential at times and lots of flooding even on some major routes.

    Well that was the best storm for years here, had constant thunder and lightning for the best part of half an hour, the whole sky lighting up and forks darting across the clouds, and the thunder was like one constant rumble! Even now the lightning is still flickering away. Got a few pics, will try and upload them later. Anyone in the path of that is in for a real treat!

    Wow, the sky looks incredible, almost looks like a US supercell, with increasingly frequent lightning. Still haven't heard any thunder though.

    Just saw three flashes of lightning in fairly quick succession off to the west, too far away to hear the thunder though. Sky looks really stormy!

    You're not alone, sod all here as usual. All the action this morning seemed to kick off to the east of here, hence the tornado reports in Hayling Island. Like the look of what's coming up the Channel though.

    The BBC has the lightning symbol for 4 of the next 5 days in Southampton! We have missed out on most of the 'events' over the last few months, so really hoping to see something good to end the season. Good luck to all.

    Frustratingly it seemed to dive south and east of here at the last minute, got quite frequent flashes but most of them pretty faint, and just one very faint rumble of thunder. Just starting to rain now. Still better than nothing.

    Yep been watching that cell closely on radar and hoping it comes this way, makes a change for something to strengthen as it crosses the channel!

    Just had several forks of IC lightning from the cell passing to the east, quite spectacular with the darkening skies. Barely audible thunder though.

    Not had a drop of rain yet but It's gone eerily dark here, really feels like the calm before the storm!
