  1. After a cool and cloudy morning here the sun has now come out and it's warming up nicely. Looks like we'll get a right soaking by that mess coming out of France but I'm not too optimistic about getting much thundery activity this far west. Kent looks like the place to be (or Benelux lol).
  2. The centre of town, near the IOW ferry terminal. The sky is looking quite volatile in all directions.
  3. Just had a few raindrops falling from fairweather cloud overhead, must be just starting to develop! Meanwhile this is my view to the north west
  4. Cloud really building fast all around here now, feels like it's ripe for a storm. I'm driving up to Swindon at 3.30am, hoping to follow the storms as I go!
  5. When I was younger I too was terrified of thunderstorms, I had to go and hide whenever we got one! It kind of changed for me when I was on holiday in Tunisia and we were sat out in the evening watching a storm that had come over us earlier heading out to sea, putting on a great light show and it was such a beautiful sight. Been to Florida three times since and love the climate and regular storms there, I've gone from being terrified to obsessed with storms and I now chase them when I can! Best thing to do is try and face up to it, watch them from a distance and only go inside when it gets too much, you may gain a whole new appreciation for storms!
  6. Indeed, went chasing last night and ended up a few miles north of Wimborne where it seemed to be virtually overhead, there was some spectacular lightning and torrential bursts of rain. Sadly only got some crappy video on my phone.
  7. Had a few faint flashes in Southampton but saw it was all heading west of here so went on a mini chase to Dorset. Some fantastic lightning around the Wimborne area, mostly cloud to cloud but a few dangerous looking CG's aswell and plenty of deep rolling thunder. Some torrential rain too. Great start to the week, hopefully a lot more to come! Now time for sleep!
  8. It's a long time since I've heard a BBC forecast ramping up the storm potential so much, like the sound of "Big, big storms"!
  9. I'm getting really excited about next week, we have waited far too long for a proper plume like we used to get, I just hope this doesn't turn into another false dawn. It would be nice to think with this summer we are seeing another shift in climate pattern, hopefully returning to the summers of old with a build up of heat followed by some epic storms! More likely to be a one off though so if this comes off make the most of it.
  10. Already lovely and hot outside, can tell it's going to be a real scorcher today but would be great to see things go bang later! Realistically I know I'm clutching at straws.
  11. That cell looks to be heading roughly in my direction,,, #wishfulthinking
  12. The sky is looking quite thundery, with milky cloud and the sun out now too it feels very muggy. I've got my eye on that blob coming out of NW France atm. I don't trust any of the models to forecast this accurately, just a matter of radar watching now.
  13. Trying not to get too excited as these things have a tendency to go wrong even at short notice, but would be great to see a good old fashioned plume event. The storms that came up from the channel last Friday whet the appetite and I want more! Looks good for some places getting lucky anyway.
  14. Is that the cold front just coming into Cornwall? Seems a bit early?
  15. What a treat this morning, just like the good old days! Torrential rain, thunder and lightning, nice big convective splats on my windscreen driving around. All preceded by those lovely thundery looking skies you only get in the summer. This is one reason I love living on the south coast, although we haven't had an event like this for years. Hopefully a sign of things to come!
  16. Some decent bursts of moderate snow over the last couple of hours, nice to see so late in the season. Seen a lot of falling snow this winter, though it has mostly been light and not settled. Certainly feels like the climate is changing in this country, with hopefully some snowier winters to come.
  17. Quite a few small flakes/grains blowing around in the bitterly cold wind here.
  18. Zero snow here, just grey damp and miserable. Very jealous of those further north who have got quite a dumping!
  19. That dollop of ppn stretching from Devon down towards the Channel Islands has really intensified over the last couple of hours and is heading this way. If only it was bumping into colder air further south.
  20. Heavier rain now, so I guess it's over us, but nothing out of the ordinary! I have noticed before how ppn coming towards Soton from the SW often intensifies like that just to the west of the IOW. Similar thing happened with the 'thunderstorm' we had yesterday. Don't know why this is.
  21. I have the advantage of being in a fourth floor flat and had a great view of the lightning off to the west, it lit up the sky quite spectacularly. Admittedly not much, but better than nothing.
  22. Did you not see the thunder and lightning yesterday evening lol?
