  1. I find this reply completely lacking in rationality in terms of this topic. Who has parental responsibility, buys the vehicle and the fuel ?- not the children, I would suggest.
  2. I really dislike the generational divisions created on this subject. It does not improve the discussion. Many of us older folk drive cars, use computers and phones, fly off on hols etc etc as much as our younger fellows do. However, those who come after us may have to re-think and cut back, in order to compensate for the oldies extravagences in these areas..and I support them and their efforts.
  3. It's been a pretty grim day hereabouts, grey, light to moderate rain on and off during the afternoon, temp 12C currently, which is all rather disappointing as there is quite a good aurora forecast for the weekend. Still waves of swallows and martins passing through - the martins in the pic are of the sand variety and were among a mixed group of 20-25. They'd better get their skates on.
  4. When on holiday in France I consult https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=meteociel&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 or http://www.meteofrance.com/accueil (or a local rag) Both these sites I have found reasonably helpful in planning trips etc..
  5. European Union: The EU was a comparatively early adopter of climate targets. In 2009, it set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020; its Paris target increased that to a 40 percent reduction by 2030. Its present policies, if fully enacted, would enable it to exceed that target. In May, the EU formally adopted into law a series of measures that included a binding target for 32 percent of electricity production to come from renewables by 2030. To achieve that figure across the EU, different countries within the bloc have adopted different national targets: For example, for Malta, the goal is 10 percent renewables, while for Sweden it is 49 percent. CAT calculates that meeting this and other targets contained in the European Commission’s “Clean Energy for all Europeans” package would result in a reduction in emissions of 48 percent by 2030; a separate study has concluded that further improving energy efficiency targets and closing coal power plants across the EU by 2030 would increase that figure further, to 58 percent. However, because the EU is collectively the third-largest emitter of CO2 behind China and the United States, such a target would just place the bloc in range of a 2 degrees C-compatible reduction. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/09/climate-change-report-card-co2-emissions/
  6. After a calm, murky but mild morning, the afternoon turned out sunny and warm-ish with a high of 18C, followed by a serene sunset.
  7. It's quite nice to have an unkempt imperfect neat garden when these little beauties turn up in front of the kitchen window;

  9. It has been a beautiful evening, mild and calm, just a suggestion of a sun pillar on returning from the evening doggie walk. It was a reminder of the shortening days in which twilight encroaches quickly. The bats were out too.
  10. Beginning to warm up as the mist burns off. The last of the Swallows.
  11. TBH, bigsnow, I think the unrealistic, fantasy, snow hunting posts spoil and aggravate the MOD thread and are better suited to other areas of the forum.
  12. Nice to see these native Grey Partridges this morning. These two were among a group of around ten youngsters.
  13. The thought police are out tonight.... beware
  14. Funny how reasonable discussion about scottish issues gets disappeared.
  15. After a more peaceful morning the breeze has perked up again. Watched the clearer weather infiltrating from the north.
  16. Better get the stove cranked up. Not for long though, I hope.
  17. It's been very windy here too, although not cold (around 16C) and with a brief sunny spell this afternoon. @mardatha & @bigsnow I have had to rescue a few items of washing this afternoon which ended up pinned to border shrubs. Leaves are beginning to fall too, in particular from the Whitebeam, which is one of the first to come into leaf and the first to drop them. I have not checked the plum trees, but I suspect there will have been a substantial windfall.
  18. Jess, or sometimes by another pet name, Oag/Oaggie
  19. It has been a fine warm evening here for the doggie walk. A Heron overhead And a potato present
  20. The article you link to, together with the majority of its attached comments are nothing more than a denier's diatribe - but maybe you knew that, MIA.
  21. This opportunistic Heron decided to hunt around the bird-feeders in front of the visitor centre at SWT Montrose. Stalking Success Gone
  22. Apple and plum trees, and even outdoor bush tomatoes have been healthy and fruitful this year. An 'indian summer' would complete the ripening process just fine, and give a personal, healthy boost prior to the endurance of chilly, dark and dreary winter days.
