Yes, the media is appalling.
Nobody actually made a forcast of the 12th of August being a scorcher, the Met Office said that there may be a warm spell around the middle of August and the media started printing record breaking headlines.
I have a solution to the media bias problem, if we make York the capital city of England again then the media will be biased towards the north of England and they will start printing headlines of massive amounts of snow, when in reality it is only a inch.

It is my persoanl belief that this winter will feature a return to the "old school" synoptics with many snow events, the word marginal will not be heard this winter in my opinion.
-
What is sunspot activity like today????????????????
-
I must say, they are all great charts, especially the chart from the 7th of January 1985 however i do not like tyhe look of the third chart as much, due to the fact that the Mid-Atlantic High, is a displaced Azores High.
-
I must say, that all of those charts are great, however i prefer the chart from the 1st January 1979.

What was the depth of the snow on the road??????????????????????
-
For some strange reason, the south of England is not very humid, because of this, i suspect the front will give little rain to the south of England.
-
Hopefully there will be conditions like that this winter, i would of thought that you would of got more snow living in your location due to stalling fronts.
-
How much snow did you get in Feburary 1978????????????????????????
-
I believe the winter of 1982 was classed as severe with a overall winter CET of 2.6C.
-
Although i do not know what it is, you can clearly distinguish the occluded front approaching the west of Ireland.
-
I would assume, living so far south you have not got much snow in recent years, exept for last Feburary.
-
With the Greenland High getting stronger and the Azores High getting weaker, i believe that the Azores High will no longer be a factor by September.
-
Where is Chelmsford, and how much snow did you get from the easterly of Feburary 1991?????????????
-
It sounds like there was a classic easterly setup, would anybody be able to post some attachments of these snow events as i do not have enougth global space left to post attachments.
-
Does anybody have the link to Joe laminate floori's column.
I believe that the reason for those warm sea surface temperatures to the south of Greenland is because of westerlies coming off a warm Canadian continant, if i am right, then once the continent starts to cool in September, the sea surface temperatures will also cool, it is good to see that there are no posotive anomolies to the north of us.
Also, is that a slight La Nino that i can see developing.

At least the south will see some rainfall over the weekend as a fairly deep low goes over the British Isles, it seems that the lack of rainfall is most evident in winter, most likely due to the fact that the sea is favoured for the heaviest frontal rainfall.
-
If the Jet Stream is to the north of the British Isles then there is usually high pressure to the south of the British Isles.
-
The reason frontal rainfall has declined is because in recent years, frontal systems have aproached from the north west rather than the south west and as a result have had to travel over more land and have decayed, especially during winter, the reason for this is because in recent years, the Jet Stream has been much further north of the British Isles than is usually expected.
-
I believe that i only reached a temperature of -0.6C that day, it was freezing however i still liked it.
In the end of Feburary event, the temperature managed to reach 1.6C for a hour before dropping below freezing again, because i am fairly young, that is the best cold spell i am able to remember.
-
Great photograph, i only got one inch from that event, and i cannot be more than fifty miles east of you, which just goes to show how the west missed out on the significant accumulations.
Was there not a ice day the next day?????????????????????
-
Mnay areas of the south actually did better off from this event than the north, because by the time the frontal system had reached the south, there was no warm sector which meant that while i got two one centimetre falls of snow, London got five centimetres.
I do think it is pathetic that five centimetres of snow brought London to a standstill.
-
I hope there are not many sunspots during the winter.
-
If al factors had come into place, i could of had upwards of fifty centimetres.
