Hmmm. Not 100% on that.
Considering an SSW only results on "cold" for the UK 2/3 times. Not sure how they could use that as a measure.
ALSO! The SSW was not creating ANY affects on the troposphere at the time of the initial cause of the cold weather.
I would suspect that the SSW has helped keep it and possible make it stronger. However im almost certain that it wasnt the cause. We are also not yet feeling the full force of the SSW. So. erm Hmm...
It should start having an affect around now if its going to. ( It was always estimated to have an affect towards the end of the month. )
Im pretty sure the cold spell at the moment has nothing to do with the SSW
To me, The block appears to still be holding strong come next weekend.
The latest GFS sorta suggests this.
Hopefully the cold will hang about longer for a reload.
Slight thaw here, However I feel most of it is simply the snow compacting due to the small nature of the flakes.
Fingers crossed for a topup today or tomorrow.
About to check the models... Fingers crossed.
Not too bad.
Probably about as deep as a normal pint glass..
Say 3 inches maybe.
It wasnt very heavy most of the time and was mostly small fine fakes.
Would of been better with bigger flakes.
Most of the heavy PPN went north and south of here..
Yet still good.
Could of been better.
7/10
-1.4 here at the moment. Yet oddly we do hve a bit of melting going on. Odd
This PPN to the west look sinteresting, little worried about its warmth though.
Radar shows it as rain / sleet. Please god. stay as snow.
