  1. Not sure we are exactly writing off a whole month of winter though.......certainly Scotland has had quite a reasonable start to winter.......already had quite a few days with snow on the ground. And almost a straight 10 days of overnight frosts. Whilst the prospects for Xmas look mild for many. Things can ,and probably will, change.Still 14 days of December left.......were some here not looking at an almost guaranteed severe cold spell 14 days ago?
  2. Omg...I see the doom merchants are virtually writing off winter over on the MT....unbelievable !! Thank god for the relative sanity of the Scottish threads . It seems to me that the search for a winter that beats 2010 has removed common sense from some of the posters over there. It was, after all,a 1 in a 100 year event!! From what I can see,the long term Synoptics still look very good......still looks to me that a far colder than average winter is in the offing.Surely that should please people? Plus the first 7 days of winter haven't exactly been poor.
  3. Ups and downs are the order of the day when it comes to model watching .Just looking back through the last week or so would show that nothing is ever certain.Pretty sure that things will continue to change over the next few runs too! One things for sure though, would we not rather have what may be on offer than the general dross of this time last year. It's the anticipation of what's to come that excites.Enjoy the ride in the knowledge that things will,no doubt, change again.
  4. Well,it's day 6 of winter.....it's -5 outside....and I've had 4 days of lying snow.....not too shabby so far for winter 12/13!!.looks like many of us could be experiencing a fall of snow in the morning. As much as 2010 was a record breaking winter(or was that just a month)........and one I thought may take years to get near again......I've got a feeling that we could be in for a long ,hard winter!!! What's the feeling with you guys?
  5. Snow had stopped here...quite heavy sleet now falling....looking forward to the possibilities for the coming week!
  6. Even while we joy tonights offering............an interesting week lies ahead.A few possibilities to look forward to....Hopefully.
  7. Yeah,it's all lovely an white outside!! Been snowing for the last hour or so...nice n steady..apparently could snow til. 3 in the morning .lovely. Snow on the 2nd day of winter...who would have thunk it..Fantastic. Hope it's a sign of a good winter to come!!!
  8. Yes,still seems a good chance of quite a few places seeing some overnight snow.Lowland Scotland looks favourable towards dawn.Dont see particularly large falls, but nice to wake up to on the first day of December.
  9. Oh what a beautiful day.down to -4c overnight, currently -2c.crystal clear skies.....can't see it getting much above zero today. Frost remaining apparent on the ground for the last few days and a chance of a few flakes of snow tonight.Hopefully this early winter( late autumn cold) is the precursor to a memorable winter
  10. Hopefully we are heading into an exciting winter season . Early doors ,but looks like some snow potential for late Sunday and the early hours of Monday 3rd.Hopefully I'm reading the charts correctly.
  11. Sorry for a newbie question....but I'm a bit confused.......there have been many good runs in the last few days....yet a poorer run arrives. And it's taken as gospel.Yet surely one of the runs today could be a better run ...and then It's taken as gospel? Perhaps I'm wrong here. ,but it looks to me as though the models are just struggling to cope with the pattern change. Many more twists and turns to come,I think.
  12. Potential for period of heavy rain on Thursday morning, particularly for southwest Scotland .More flooding likely.
  13. Some particularly nasty weather in this neck of the woods today(as illustrated in coasts warning above) .Looking forward, quite a bit of rain forecast over the next few days with further flooding virtually assured.Tuesday afternoon looks pretty gusty while the early hours of Thursday could again be nasty with the chance of heavy rain and gusts up to 60mph currently forecast .Definitely .some good autumnal weather to keep an eye on for the next few days. (Sorry ,no charts...bit of a newbie I'm afraid)
  14. Well it's been wet here since the early hours.Winds have been from a southerly direction with gusts over 40mph.Temps around 11c.A day to stay inside, for sure.Could be a few of them this week!
