LATEST NEWS...met office super computer struggles with model swings

With all the wild swings of the models ...I see the new met office super computer has been struggling

There seems to be so much swapping and changing going on at the moment I'm getting affa confused! Can someone briefly give an idea of what the forecast is for the next few days,please. Will there be any of this?

WARNING to anyone thinking of taking a trip over to the MT.....for the sake of your own sanity,please don't go there! OR,at the very least go armed with a sense of humour. Some seriously upset people over there! Warnings all along of models changing frequently seem to have bypassed some folk.....taking each model run as gospel is seriously bad for your health( especially in the face of a SSW and looking for snow). Honestly,some people will never learn and these same folk will be back tomorrow going gaga because a run looks good!!

And below is the 00z run.......not exactly reliable. As has been said,the models are all over the place.Expect many changes ,on a daily basis!

Just to whet the appetite ... Hopefully much more of this. As we move into 2nd half of month!!

Absolutely SS ,and worth pointing out that Dec 12 will be remembered for different things in different parts of the country. For me,there's been a great array of different weather types in the month.....more than enough to keep me interested in the weather.The first 14 days or so gave mostly frosty nights and some snow.....so for my area it feels like a better than average start to winter. Obviously there has also been horrendous flooding in many areas....just goes to show the many different weather types that can be experienced in our small country

A wee bit of everything this December will be my memory of the month. I've seen snow,sleet,hail,rain,torrential rain,flooding,storms,about 14 nights of frost,a couple of ice days and a few mild days too.All in all probably a pretty good month if your interested in the weather. It looks as though we may well see a good second half to January.I think we will soon see things taking shape in the models. Anyway,all the very best to all on here....may the New Year bring us all good health and good fortune.Cheers.

Heavy rain here....skies grey and looks like a miserable day ahead.Looks like it could well be very windy thru the early hours of tomorrow too!

Yep weathermaster , was a lull in the winds for a few hours there but getting quite windy again now.Expecting the worst gusts from around 9 this evening thru to around 3in the morning. After a quieter day tomorrow the gales look to return on Sunday morning,could well be equally stormy then.

Like many,it seems that the first 10 days or so will be on the mild side.Thereafter I feel it's likely to become progressively colder .....looking like a game of two halves..will each cancel the other out? I ain't go the foggiest!! But I'm guessing it will be near average. So. 4.5c please

Light snow falling at the moment,temps hovering just above zero.....looks like there could be a few hours ,some areas are seeing a covering

Snaws on...getting more persistent now....doubt it will amount to much but nice to see anyway.... These charts suggest it could be around for a good few hours.

Absolutely LS.Amazing how ,over on the model thread,there's been constant gnashing of teeth and moaning about a "poor start to winter" or even " winters over".Yet I believe it's been a very respectable month with regards to winter weather.....and it looks as though there could be plenty to look forward to in the coming 11 days. I'd take dec 12 over dec 11 anytime!!

Mildly educated guess Matty? I think there is more to GPs posts than just guesswork .I find them very helpful and educational.

It's absolutely teaming down outside,and that strong wind makes it all the more unpleasant .....so to cheer things up....a bit of potential next week......
