  1. Yes WS...speaking from a purely imby perspective......this month has been cold so far.3 frosts registered, temps not gone above 8cince the 1st....and gust westerly winds making it feel very chilly indeed. So,perhaps not a Cold Spell ,so to speak......but its definitely cold oop north atm!!And a few frosty nights to come.
  2. Absolutely baltic oot there. On the way back from the hospital, car temp gauge shows down to -2c around the Clydebank area. So good to see some more traditional late season weather.
  3. LOVELY......after such a horrendous Saturday( it felt as though that torrential rain would never stop) This morning strikes me as a perfect late Autumn morning.Cars and grass were white earlier...frost slowly lifting as the morning went on. Beautiful blue skies....perfect weather for getting out and about. Reports of sleet higher up in the town Saturday......Winter is on its way.......EVEN LOVLIER!!!
  4. Pretty sure Brian on Two was talking about next week and not the coming Winter
  5. Of course, thats not to say it cant happen......else we can pencil in the forecast for November 2110 as a shoe-in!!
  6. But Gavin it does go on to say this...Partly due to this the sixth update reduces the chance of a White Christmas. However, they remain above the long term average, especially in the south because background signals still seem to favour high pressure blocking to the north of Britain and this usually means cold weather during the winter months. In summary the chances of snow this Christmas are thought to be above the long term average. Only fair to give the whole picture ,dont you think??
  7. Ach well.....if only there were models that ACCURATELY tell us what the weather will be like this winter. No matter what any model says right now, everything can..and will change. And thats one thing we can accurately predict!!
  8. Tbh Gavin,i think its a problem all year round........if only the British seasons were more clear cut and we always got the weather that suited the season......but then we would have little to argue over!
  9. Beautiful colours in the sky to the west this evening....ipad camera doesn't really do it justice....and sadly its now raining heavily.
  10. To be fair , folk are just saying what they see.iIt seems clear to me that very little is clear....and it may take a few more days before it gets clearer..i hope that makes it clear.I think there are more than a few options on the table.
  11. Not quite sure of the answer ...but here is a snippet of onfo from Met Office News Blog talking about August Bank Holiday weather extremes from recent history.Numerous Scottish stations failed to get above 10 °C on Sunday 28th August 2011, the lowest maximum being 9.1 °C at Cromdale. This excludes stations 500 metres above sea level, which may be considerably colder. There have also been numerous instances of air frost over the August Bank Holiday, most of them in Scotland, most notably in 1977 and 1982. The lowest individual reading was -3.1 °C at Kindrogan on Sunday 28 August 1977.
  12. Excellent to see this thread up and running...if i could have a a December 2010 coupled with some early 80s winters id be a very happy boy indeed......c'mon the snow!!
  13. Really? Unless im reading the wrong charts the "hot" spell appears far from brief....i can see temps ranging from 24c to 28c quite widely across England from Tuesday thru Sunday. That doesnt appear too brief to me.
  14. Seriously made an A@?e of my July guess...however im going to stick with 16c for August...slightly below average.
  15. Just to stay on topic....could well be some nasty weather around for NE England in the early hours of sunday morning.
  16. Whilst i agree entirely with the sentiments you express Frosty....its easy to see why the weather forecasts can easily confuse the general public. The above headlines would suggest that theres to be readonsble weather around and just a scattering of thunderstorms...yet the same forecast suggested that on Thursday ,for instance,in Scotland it was likely to be a day of constant rain...warm and wet ,rather than a scattering of showers!?
  17. Very ominous looking, dark clouds ....feeling this could turn into a very interesting day!?
  18. Quite remarkable weather AWT......lets not forget how dry late winter and spring were too! Some amazing figures......NO rain from 14/2 to 15/3. And then only 15mm of rain thru to 10/4!!
  19. Thats funny....my mum often used to ask if i thought she came up the Clyde in a banana boat?!!
