  1. that does not sound to promising steve but i alluded to the latest beeb forecast a short while ago and it didnt give all that much hope away from the nw to be honest
  2. LOL you did better than me OON,i got next to nowt.I know what you mean though when you hear the dreaded drip drip, kind of ruins it really.
  3. Agreed Barry, its great when you get overnight snow and its cold enough the day after to maintain the cover. When the sun is setting on snow covered fields trees houses etc it can be a sight to behold!
  4. Yes that is a stunning chart Tamara. What would we give for something similar this time round?Solid block to our NW and you can see those systems off the Eastern seaboard going nowhere in a hurry, look at the the lovely LP over Azores and into Europe, cold rampers dreams come true!!!! With regards to the coming winter, enjoyable as these threads are,IMO they dont mean a great deal.
  5. FAO the poster who said snow wasnt forecast for the NW of England previously. YES IT WAS.
  6. Well what ac omplete and utter load of cobblers. The words 'non event' spring to mind(yet again).Typically the belt started decaying just as it reached NW England meaning the flurries blowing around in the wind was as good as it got!!!!! For those in the NW,i think this area is rapidly becoming the snow desert of england,im so p'd off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. ABSOLUTELY BONE DRY here in Greater manchester, dont think its goona reach here, gutted.
  8. Well on closer inspection at 18z we do see the stubborness of a decent Scandy high in the face of an atlantic onslaught. That said,we could be on the cusp of something amazing.
  9. Hmmmm, big DOWNGRADE tonight, esp for those south of Birmingham,FAX going with GFS for saturday(and ECM).
  10. I think this run is going to come in line with ECM unfortunately,LP track not as good as 12z.
  11. Temps in moscow progged to go subzero by tomorrow,is that about the norm for mid october?
  12. A quite fascinating thread and congratulations to those involved in it,a lot of that to be frank goes way over my mortal head! My opinion, fwiw,is that GW has made a *massive*difference to our winters in particular. The domainance of the AZH and Icelandic low has been truely horrific for the cold lovers in this country during the winter months.Have to say i am firmly in the sceptics camp wrt LRF's,I dont believe in them at all.Gegraphically speaking the UK is not in a good spot for sustained cold, obviously we have the Atlantic to thank for that, one thing that does stand out for me personally is the lack of cold or polar NW'lys during the post 1988 era, anybody have any theories as to why these synoptics rsrely rear their wonderful head nowadays?
  13. Great to have kept an eye on the threads through the summer and good to be back as Autumn sets in too !Anyway,October is my least favourite month, getting too late for sustained heat and a tad too early for sustained cold.Nothing beats a cold clear November afternoon as the sun starts to drop against the background of bare trees, heralding the onset of my fav season.......Winter!!!!!!
  14. Rain rain rain and more rain.Dont know if anyone keeps rainfall stats here in the north west but we have rain on an almost daily basis now and its getting very very tiresome. Is this the most godforesaken part of the country? B) 1 Always worst off for rain(too much of it) 2Almost always worst off for snow(almost none of it) Rant over!
  15. Damien,i to love the snow and your'e posts are always informative.HOWEVER,why do you constantly make references to communsim/capatlism and the cold war?And could you please xplain your 'i miss socialism'remark, because if your refering to communsim in the eastern block then i can assure you many of my own family were persecuted under the communist regime as were millions of others in satellite states across eastern europe. (If ive got you wrong then please accept my apologies).
  16. Completely overcast here in Greater Manchester.Few spots of rain in the last few mins. Bloody annoying actually because ive just bought some masonary paint dor the wall, looks like its set for the day aswell!!!!!!!!!
  17. I like that forecast Mr Murr. So you suspect the trend of southerly tracking lows is over?I do hope so,a nice big fat sturdy scandy high sounds sounds superb to me !
  18. Looks to me like those widespread negative anoms to our north are now beginning to shrink, still above average ssts towards NW Russia.
  19. Looks to me like Greenland sea ice is currently just above what was being recorded in November last year, ahead of the game as they say ? B)
  20. Smith25,you really need to go to ssts anonymous ,ps only kidding, keep up the good work !
  21. That moderately negative anomaly does stand out on the latest charts, looks to be ecpanding too,one to keep an eye on in the months ahead perhaps?
