  1. Also just said beast from the east throughout next week. We could be under some very deep snow by this time next week around here.
  2. Light snow been falling for over an hour in South York's. Wasn't expecting any today. Bonus!
  3. It's bound to turn wintry this weekend. I'm going abroad for a few days.
  4. Yes we have. Getting back on to subject, what's happened to pressure charts on BBC website? They seem to have slowly disappeared over last few days.
  5. A white Easter is much more common than a white Christmas. Strange but true.
  6. Normally we are one of first to see Snow around here but hardly seen any apart from a light dusting from last nights fog, some sleety stuff at end of last week and a flurry at end of October.
  7. Very dangerous conditions around here. Freezing drizzle. Roads are like a skating rink.
  8. Some very fine Snow coming down through fog. Seen this on few occasions when its foggy, the light snow tends to be very localized.
  9. Sub zero all day here with fog thickening up this afternoon and now we have very fine snow grains coming down.
  10. Now that some models are showing mild up to middle of January I'll get sledge waxed. Blizzards before end of December is guaranteed.
  11. The mild did win out back then but the cold returned and more severe than the previous cold spell.
  12. This set up reminds me of some of charts in late 70s and early 80s, quite a few of severe cold snaps came from occluded fronts strung across to north of UK and very slowly worked there way back southwards.
  13. You might think that is bad but my football team have now lost 7 games on bounce. Only joking, that's terrible news any time of year never mind Christmas.
  14. Large percentage of severe winters in late 70s and early 80s didn't get going until after Christmas.
  15. Calendar news weatherman still going for easterlies but short lived.
  16. I am in same boat. Going to look such a fool at work next week. On a positive note some models are pointing towards an Easterly around 21st. Think I´ll keep this quite until about 20th.
  17. Just emailed Santa and told him not to bother because we'll not have any snow.
  18. I remember the severe winters of the late 70s and early 80s very well. They were different scenarios for most of them. Some were areas of high pressure pulling away to north west and some were lows sitting right over UK and slipping in to low country's. I can remember on a couple of occasions when we had fronts pushing up from South West against the cold air already in place over UK and we had blizzards before milder conditions came in but these fronts would stall to north and then very slowly bring arctic air flooding back down with frequent Snow showers especially in east. It was painfully slow but with Snow still laying from previous blizzards all the slush on roads and pavements froze like glass. In late 70s we also had gritters on strike so you can imagine how bad roads were back then.
  19. Some people are heading for a nervous breakdown on there.
  20. Mixture of rain sleet and snow here though hearing its quite bad/good up on tops.
  21. Rain here +3 Great idea to split the North England thread. We won´t have to listen to those from other side of hill crying next week when we have a foot of Snow from Easterlies while they just receive a dusting.
  22. Looking very good for next week for us east side of Pennines with a easterly.
  23. A low coming up from South is just as likely to give as much Snow if not more than one coming down from north. One coming from north will pick up warmer air off Atlantic and Irish sea. One coming up from South will drag cold continental air from Europe. Biggest Snowfall I've ever seen in March 1979 came from a system tracking up from France.
