  1. Just back from a quick trip to Hopton which is situated between Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. This area is having all kinds of problems due to the constant easterly winds. Sea defences have smashed, path to what used to be a beach has collapsed, and the cliffs are in a very dangerous state. When I got there I saw lots of people from the environment agency and council workers standing around shaking their heads. There are a lot of property owners along there who are getting extremely concerned. I took a few pics but they don't really tell the full story.

  2. Another snap from my walk along the beach earlier. The top one is taken pointing towards Great Yarmouth from North Lowestoft, Yarmouth is just visible in the far distance, and if you use a magnifying glass it's possible to see our very own Captain walking on Yarmouth beach. The bottom photograph was taken from the Corton end of the beach looking towards Lowestoft. On the right of the picture you can see the rubbish that has been washed in from the sea, and in the distance you can see the mighty wind turbine Gulliver which doesn't appear to have been going round for more than a week. What a waste of good wind.

  3. Just back from a walk along North Beach in Lowestoft to the other side of Corton. North Beach has dropped dramatically, and Corton looks like it's getting ready to fall into the North Sea. Because I'm a bloke I ignored the warning signs telling me to not to attempt the coastal path at the far end of Corton, but halfway along I'd wished I had been a woman and hadn't been so stupid. Take it from me DO NOT ATTEMPT IT. I spoke to a lady who has lived here all her life and she told me that she has never seen it as bad as this. How long are these easterly winds going to last?

  4. That must not be nice, at least it isn't wet, serious rust potential if it was. Here we are just worrying about tonnes of sand blowing around the town though as the wind has eased then small dust storms look less likely now.

North Beach here in front of my house is looking a complete mess, I'll pop down there later and take a few snaps. The beach level has dropped around 8ft because of the constant easterly we have been having. I have a feeling that places like Corton will start to experience some serious erosion problems if this carries on much longer.

  5. Lots of precipitation about up north so if the winds did veer north east we could be in line for some snow.

As it is, another dry day with sunny spells for norfolk. Temps probably around 2 degrees. Talk about groundhog day.

Congrats on the new arrivals jennyjane smile.png

We are possibly the driest place in the world at the moment (might be a slight exaggeration) and they keep plastering the roads here with salt. My car is now covered in it. I might even have to consider washing it.
