  1. Got up to 13.8C here today, but with a sheet of high cloud keeping the sun under wraps it felt OK, but not particularly warm, especially in the breeze.
  2. Been in a campsite just outside Hexham since Friday eve. Yesterday was decent, actually quite warm in the sun at times, today has been full permagloom with a biting cold wind, so a home away from home by the sounds of it. Visited Housteads Roman barracks on Hadrians Wall this afternoon. On a day like this I felt sorry for the poor auxiliaries that were stationed there for years on end when it was active. They reckon they were generally from Belgium or areas of what is now Holland. "Join the Roman army" they said, "get to see the known world" they said, get stationed on a bleak moor on the weeble end of England I'm sure they didn't say. Weeble = rear, posterior end of the human body, usually sat upon.
  3. Slight frost this morning but temp has shot up to 6.5C, and despite it being much brighter and sunnier than recently there's a stiff breeze which has a bite to it. Spring still hasn't quite sprung here yet, not temperature wise anyway.
  4. Got up to 7.9C during the afternoon but grey, calm and very drizzly. Looks like its trying to clear up now, so hopefully something better tomorrow.
  5. Not really improved since @Quinachposted 6 hrs ago, cold and miserable start to the school Easter hols. With tomorrow forecast not to be any better it'll be a day to relax and start to recharge in the house before hopefully next week I can start yo do something more interesting.
  6. Currently -0.4C after an overnight low of -1.6C, mainly sunny with just some fluffy white cloud, dusting of snow lying from overnight shower(s).
  7. 0.9C and currently snowing, with a decent dusting from this shower and what must have been earlier ones as there was some lying when I first looked out.
  8. Must be a posh house too, as nobody else can afford to heat thier house to that temperature, not these days anyway. High of 5.7C today, currently 4.3C, been dry but not exactly sunny. Might see the odd flurry of snow tomorrow but not expecting it to come to much. Anyway, wanting it to warm up now, especially with Easter hols approaching. Also got some tomato, cucumber, courgette and chilli seeds sown this morning, but in a propagator indoors and on a heat mat.
  9. You know the weather is boring when there hasn't been a post on here for over 24hrs. Currently 6.6C but unlike yesterday it's dry, and actually feels quite decent even although there's an unbroken sheet of cloud keeping the sun under cover. Got some bare root strawberry plants into plastic troughs and the mower tidied up a bit ready for when it's needed.
  10. Looks like the snow patch season in my garden has just about finished barring a miracle. Amazed it's lasted quite as long given the temps from recent days.
  11. Heat hit me as I walked out of work eatlier, 12C in Westhill at 4pm. No use when you have a jumper and winter jacket on. Currently a sunny 10.4C at home. Not surprisingly virtually all the lying snow has gone, just thin remnants along field boundary walls etc.
  12. Same, steady wettish snow been falling for a bit, currently 0.0C with dewpoint almost identical at -0.1C
  13. Ditto, as much as I love snow I absolutely loathe cold sleety rain and endless days of chilly greyness. I'd quite happily have some warmer weather, especially now that it's getting lighter in the evenings, so more chance of spending time outdoors.
  14. Found 2 or 3cm of snow on the driveway when I got home that wasn't there this morning. Occasional snow showers in Westhill through the day that were heavy at times but short lived. Nothing much lay in Westhill but the hills around Alford are certainly looking whiter again. Currently 1C after maxing out at 1.3C (unless it warms up again).
  15. It certainly is, a blustery drive home through mainly sleet, with the odd burst of wet snow thrown in. 2C in Westhill and most of the way home, 1C at higher points. Snow line on hills, when I could see them, seems to be around 350m or so, but looks just a wet dusting with everything below just sodden. If this is Winter's last hurrah then it can do one. I'd rather it warmed up than suffer this.
  16. Turning to wet snow / sleet in Westhill too. 2C here, now widely 1C in inland areas to the West.
  17. Theme continues, 3C at the house, 4C on most of the commute to Westhill. Very wet, maybe just the merest of sleety hints in heavier bursts. Even if it does snow later it's going to struggle to settle.
  18. Temperature finally starting to come back down. It was still 6.5C at 6pm, now down to 3.5C. Max for day was 7.7C so most of the lying snow has finally turned to liquid and drained away. Anything left will probably be washed away with the expected rain overnight before hopefully it turns back to snow. Could mean a wet commute in the morning followed by nervousness about getting home?
  19. Knew that would happen as soon as I posted. Overlapping, one for bulk of inland Scotland from 5am tomorrow, other one covering Scotland and N England from 17:00hrs
  20. Got to be, which is why I'm surprised there, aren't any warnings out at the moment. MetO app has several hours of heavy snow for the likes of Braemar and Aviemore. Even areas that are more likely to be a more wintry mix will see temps drop below zero overnight into Tuesday, so ice likely. I've seen warnings come out several days ahead for situations that look much less severe than this one could be, yet here we are, 12 to 24hrs out.... are they confident it won't be disruptive? Never take these as gospel, but GFS snow depth charts now and Tues...
  21. I'd expect that the direct route up the A9 might be troublesome tomorrow, the longer route via the A90 & A96 less so. Its going to snow a fair amount I'd say, just quite when the transition from rain to snow will be and how much will settle is uncertain. Being inland and relatively high means the A9 is going see an earlier transition and more chance of lying snow. Edit: Measured 2.5cm of snow lying on the patio outside the back door which I know was clear yesterday.
  22. Covering lying from overnight, thin on the driveway but looks thicker on the cars. GFS 0Z is back to a heavy rain to snow event tomorrow for here. The hills are at least going to get clobbered, good for the ski resorts? Let's see what we max out at today, still sitting a couple of tenths below freezing at the moment under a sheet of grey cloud.
  23. Snowing lightly to moderately here and settling on most surfaces by the looks of what little I can see in the dark. Currently -0.5C but an upspike in dew point from around -4C a couple of hours ago to -1.2C now. I'll happily bank the 18Z GFS, and surely that'd need at least a yellow warning (Amber if it'd been South of the border).
  24. Back down to -1.1C after a high of 2.8C, the snow on south facing fields etc open to the sun has largely gone, but still quite a bit remaining on North facing slopes and shaded areas. Let's see what tonight brings before we start looking at what happens on Monday. BTW, quite a blizzard this afternoon in London, France doing to England at Twickenham what I was worried they were going to do to Scotland two weeks ago. Edit: As far as Monday goes, I'll take the 850s from UKMO please. Slightly colder for most of Scotland, which could be the difference between rain and snow.
