  1. Light mix of rain and snow just up the hill from me when I was walking the dog up there around 3pm. Currently 2.6C according to the local weather station. Not sure what to make of the coming week as the forecasts don't quite match the warnings, certainly for snow anyway. It'll be cold, that I am sure of.
  2. It'll change 4 times a day, with each GFS run, right up until the day anyway. My current version is not exactly a snowy nirvana, but it's bitterly cold, especially for March.
  3. Now this is a proper forecast... Although up to now its been showing snow next week its been a lot less, so not counting my chickens just yet.
  4. Missed the aurora on Sunday night too, which was very annoying, and last night was far too cloudy. Looking ahead, I'll take back what I said the other day, next week is looking potentially quite chilly after all. Cold enough for some snow in places, but not expecting any of us to be digging ourselves out.
  5. Beginning to agree with them, not that I've bothered looking in the MAD thread recently. A few days ago it was looking as if it could have gone either way, cold or meh, but the latter increasingly looks as if it'll win out. Nice day outside, only 5.5C but feels warmer in the sun as there's little wind.
  6. I think it'd keep all of us happy to have a cold, snowy start to March then a rapid warm up and a decent spring. I'd rather not just have the current weather drag on. Talking of which, decent start to the day but a very blustery commute home through heavy showers of sleety rain with the car saying 3C.
  7. Bit of a frost here this morning too, mainly car windscreen. Lowest I saw on commute though was - 1C. Some cracking charts coming out at the moment from around the start of March, but also some less exciting ones too so I'm not predicting anything. Edit: If you want the definition of a boring, tedious weather outlook then this is it...
  8. Just let the dog out before bed and yes, rather wild sounding outside. Local weather station has sustained at over 60km/hr, gusting over 80km/hr at times, way above forecasts that I can see. No idea how accurate that station us with wind speed though.
  9. Arrived in my new Octopus account too, the transfer from my Bulb account having just completed. The thing is, I wasn't expecting it as our heating is primarily electric via the heat pump, just bottled gas to the cooker and the wood burner as 'alternative' fuels. The house always has been electrically heated as far as I know, so quite how they decided who gets the payment is therefore a mystery. Currently 1.9C this morning. Oh and if the GFS 0Z is anything close to coreect you'll all need to find bigger ramp pictures. A long, long way off, but it seems something is afoot.
  10. Dead calm this morning, currently a very sunny 0.7C with a dusting of snow lying. It at least looks like winter again, for now. First half of the coming week looks like being a continuation of the mild theme we've been enduring, Wed/Thu onwards looking cooler, but not exactly cold? After next weekend it's anyone's guess, but at least the GFS is throwing up the odd cold scenario from time to time.
  11. Kind of surreal this morning waking up to no power whilst outside, although roaring with wind at times, it was pretty much cloudless and sunny. Had to resort to heating water from our backup container on the gas stove and sparingly flushing toilets (no power means no pump which means no running water for us). Sons school was closed so bring home he reported power back on around 1pm, so well done SSEN. Wife and I made it to our respective schools, which were both unaffected.
  12. Surely if this is anywhere close to correct for Friday it'll elicit an Amber wind warning? I don't believe Saturdays forecast for a minute though.
  13. Day foo work so was out in garden earlier and I was seriously considering running over the grass with the mower. A combination of it being too wet late in the Autumn and the milder spell means it could do with a trim. Can't quite bring myself yo do it as, abc, it's Feb. Currently a breezy, sunny 6.2C.
  14. We drove the motorhome around Spain in the summer and the stretch we did from Santander to Burgos was a cracking drive. Plenty of others too, but were were there in the 40C heatwave to certainly no snow, lingering or not.
  15. Same here, early frost and a nice morning, but as with yesterday a veil of high cloud largely masking the sun. Still, it's calm and feels warmer than the 3.7C the weather station just up the road says it is. Maybe it feels warmer as I'm just back from a 1.5hr walk with the dog, and was slightly overclothed by the end
  16. Welcome back to the locality. I'd agree with you that there is plenty of time for another notable snowfall, but at the moment the models aren't showing anything along those lines unfortunately. Only really been glancing at them occasionally though. Currently 7C here, fairly calm looking and a sheet of light grey cloud keeping the sun under cover. Dry though.
  17. I thought were having an early spring. It's 9pm and I'm say in Insch waiting on my done coming out of his boxing training and the car says it's 11C.
  18. Probably the same one that reached Westhill around 11am. It was pretty impressive even although it didn’t last long and certainly wasn't going to settle. I think I detected a hint of a dusting of new snow on the higher hills around Alford on my drive home, but it was getting dark so couldn't be sure. Currently a windy sounding 2.5C.
  19. Currently 4.6C, trying to be sunny but with a veil of high cloud hampering it, calm. Theme for the coming week would appear to be wind, and lots of it. Nothing too interesting that I can see from the models for the longer term, but then again I don't think they have a scooby beyond the end of the coming week.
  20. ^^^^^ Baffled Anyway, -2.3C outside currently, and assuming the roads are likely to be icy as they were pretty wet yesterday evening. Nothing much terribly interesting on any of the models recently, at least not consistently so.
  21. It might have felt mild in Alford this morning at 7C, and the ice and snow at the house is thawing, but just another 150m or so further up the hill it certainly still felt like winter.
  22. Quite happy for a milder spell for a bit if it gets rid of the ice, ready for another bout of snow in Feb of course. Weather station along the road is showing 3.4C, down the hill in Alford half an hour ago the car was saying 7C. Certainly feels a lot milder. GFS showing something similar to the chart below on and off, even if the other models don't seem to be. Usually followed by an incursion of some sorts from a North westerly direction. Time will tell.
  23. Again? I thought it was over in November, then over in December. I must have been imagining all the snow I've seen fall this winter, that and and the ice currently covering most of my garden.
  24. Main roads had icy patches this morning but side roads were atrocious in the main. Amazing quite how much ice there was when the overnight low was 1C, both around Alford and in Westhill. Lots of pupils, and teachers, late for school this morning due to the conditions. High at home was 3.5C around 2pm, but since then its dropped off steadily to - 1.7C currently.
  25. Drove over to Insch and back to pick up son from boxing training. Heavy wet snow/sleet on the way there, lots of the main roads still had patchy wet snow and slush on them. Back roads in Insch were skating rinks, thick, shiny, wet ice. Insch side of the hill has obviously seen quite a bit more snow recently than the Alford side of the hill.
