  2. It's 9 weeks since the summer solstice. You can see how dark it is now at 10pm
  3. It was the minima that kept the CET up, maximum wise it was cool, the coolest since August 1993 on that measurement.
  4. I wouldn't call it quite poor. Around here it was sunnier, drier than average and temperatures close to average. So not bad. As for summer 2014 as a whole, not bad. I think the Manchester Summer Index is going to be in the 220s at the end.
  5. Leicester maxima 24th August 1884: 29.8C 25th August 1884: 20.3C 26th August 1884: 13.8C The northerly flow brought some very chilly air. Some minima recorded Bury St Edmunds: 2.8C Banbury: 5C
  6. Late afternoon sunshine here, seems to often happen here, cloud melts away as the afternoon progresses. It happened yesterday
  7. This was an awful month, IMO. It was the lack of sunshine that was stark about this month. It comes to something when February was sunnier than the August in the same year. It was generally the dullest since 1912. Forecasts from this month http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWbt7RniF2aoqcp0LRS6v3jPgiIF6VSBm
  8. First decent night storm for sometime, decent summer overall but temperatures in terms of maxima not outstanding. Bertha remains was not a lot, at least not around here. The night storm has been the event of the year so far followed by the February gale, other than that not a lot.I think some members are going to remember this year for the storms unless something exceptional happens in the last quarter.
  9. The Cheshire gap effect is in play at the moment. Not seen that for a while.
  10. Central parts of England up the spine of Northern England were particularly thundery if you look at the anomaly map, in excess of 10 days on the days of thunder map. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/summaries/anomacts Compare that to August 2010 with large parts of the country reporting no thunder.
