  1. Clips of this was featured in a weather documentary.
  2. My dad has sent me eVscope images he took of the Pin Wheel Galaxy (M101) This was before the supernova, some weeks ago on the left and the one on the right was after the supernova explosion The supernova occurred 21 millions years ago as the galaxy is about 21 million lights away from us.
  3. April 1865 was never clear ahead of the pack as May 1833 is.
  4. Hardly anything memorable from 2002 for me. Did a thread on forgettable years, sometime ago and the general consensus was 2002 was one of the most forgettable years.
  5. 2002 was the worst year for me of the decade because it was the most tedious. Best year? 2009 edges it
  6. Going through the old newspaper archives, sometimes you stumble across a little gem. Found this from a Staffordshire newspaper from 9th June 1948 that there was still snow from the winter 1946-47 in a Derbyshire cave
  7. I am seriously questioning just how bad the summers of the 1960s actually were. Manchester Summer Indices 1960 217 1961 203 1962 197 1963 194 1964 197 1965 189 1966 192 1967 223 1968 215 1969 234 5 of them have an index of at least 200. Compare those values with two horror summers from the 1950s 1954: 143 and 1956: 155 Interesting to note that 5 of the summers of the 1960s were sub 200mm rainfall for England and Wales. In the SE, summer 1961 was just slightly wetter than summer 2003 and the following summer, 1962 was fairly dry. I don't think the summers of the 1960s overall are as bad as some make out not compared to absolute stinkers such as 1954 and 1956
  8. Looked at my timelapse, looks as though it really picked up just as the morning twilight was increasing.
  9. Where have they gone? Not visited the site since March 23.
  10. Looks as though May is going to be the best month of spring 2023 for our area
  11. A highly variable month with heat and snow, low and high pressure extremes, gales and calmness. Wartime reporting restrictions has relegated this month to obscurity Newspaper reports
  12. Matt Hugo (MattH) has said in the past despite all the available data and advancement in computer modelling, low cloud amounts/location/will it clear is still one of trickiest things to forecast.
  13. Always fascinated me, May 1833 Reports from May 1833 Canterbury thunderstorm and other storm reports Agricultural Data Cambridgeshire Plymouth
  14. Going to be the sunniest day of the year so far in terms of hours of sunshine.
