  1. 23rd-25th March 2012: 11.3C 23rd-25th March 2013: 0.5C Bit of a difference!
  2. The last 6 days need a CET mean of......to get to....... 19.2 --------> 6.3 16.1 --------> 5.7 12.5 --------> 5.0 9.4 ---------> 4.4 6.8 ---------> 3.9 5.3 ---------> 3.6 0.7 ----------> 2.7 We are not going to beat March 1883 value of 1.9C So it looks a cert now of the first sub 4C March since 1970
  3. What has been so unusual about this March is that it did not start off that cold and that the cold is going to persist to the end of the month. Even March 1962 last few days were milder than the rest of the month, March 1969's last two days were much milder and also for March 1883. The way things are going, the last 8 days of March 2013 could turn out 3C colder than the first 8 days.
  4. 4 of the last 5 winters or the coldest period of the seasonal cycle contained at least a 10 week period that was sub 3C 2008-09 2009-10 2010-11 2012-13
  5. The worst type of late cold spells are the ones that occurred after a period of mild weather when growth is advanced. This cold spell has just extended the suspended animation of vegetation.
  6. Sub 5C Easters 23rd-26th March 1883: 0.9 <-----Coldest in this list 3rd-6th April 1885: 4.3 30th March-2nd April 1888: 4.2 27th-30th March 1891: 4.5 15th-18th April 1892: 2.3 6th-9th April 1917: 3.4 26th-29th March 1937: 3.4 4th-7th April 1958: 3.8 27th-30th March 1964: 4.3 28th-31st March 1975: 3.4 8th-11th April 1977: 4.5 1st-4th April 1983: 4.2 10th-13th April 1998: 4.1 21st-24th March 2008: 3.6

  8. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the Manchester weather based on that ECM 12z run http://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/England/Manchester/long.html Unbelievable, it never gets above 5C! You got to be joking?!
  9. If you are praying for some warm weather, something to dream about
  10. We are now at the stage of the month that in both for March 1987 and 2006, it became noticeably milder The last 9 days for March 1987 had a CET of 6.9 The last 8 days for March 2006 had a CET of 10.2 Manley CET by Philip Eden is now 3.4C up to 23rd http://www.climate-uk.com/
  11. The question is if it does get milder next weekend and with rain a possibility, what is the risk of flooding? There is a hell of a lot of snow on hills and mountains and it doesn't look like it is going anywhere this week.
  12. Snow blowing around in the wind. That wind does not seem to have let up, it is still gusty.
  13. Precipitation seems to have picked up in southern parts off the region. Odd flakes in the wind here.
  14. I said that, I don't know what your issue is March colder than a colder than average January and February, last occasion was 1786
  15. Not much change, March colder than a colder than average February last occasion would be 1916
  16. I was comparing against 1961-90 averages to give a familiar reference frame and I point out against 1961-90 and 1971-2000 averages, January and February were the same. So your point is actually irrelevant in this case.
  17. Some possibilities (1961-90 averages) March colder than a January, last occasion was 2008 March colder than a colder than average January, last occasion was 1888 March colder than February was 1995 March colder than a colder than average February was 1892 March colder than January and February, last occasion was 1937 March colder than a colder than average January and February, last occasion was 1786 March colder than the winter CET, last occasion was 1995 March colder than a colder than average winter was 1962
  18. Flurries of snow in the wind from time to time. Colder now then it was at this stage yesterday. The radar does seem to be filling and heavier echoes appearing.

  20. Got a covering here. Interesting snow has melted on roads and pavements but the sides of trees exposed to the wind has still the covering.
  21. Going to record an official March snow cover under Met Office rules. The last occasion in March was in 2006. Latest snow cover into a season since April 2008.
