  1. Snowing in Yate. All in all a very snowy 24 hours here. Good to see. Now I'm travelling up to Stratford Upon Avon for a weeks work. Expecting to see a lot more up there.
  2. Being in North Yate, I'm East of the M5 and North of the dreaded M4. What could possibly go wrong! Fingers crossed for all hoping for snow.
  3. Very true. It's like any memories in life, we remember the big events and great times but we forget the mundane times which make up a huge proportion of life. The vast majority of British weather, like life in general, is mundane so easily forgotten whereas the great storms, snowfalls, heatwaves etc stand out in our memories because they were stand out events and they happened rarely. Rest assured, throughout our lifetimes, we will continue to get plenty more big snowfalls, big freezes, heatwaves etc when the conditions are right but they will never be really common events because they never were!
  4. Totally agree. The trouble is we always remember the minority of great snow events and heatwaves from the past and forget the overwhelming majority of the normal/ average conditions of the past. Whilst I accept, at present, our climate has become slightly milder, to say lowland snow in Britain is history is frankly absurd. I'm sure, even down here in southern Britain, there will be plenty more spells of freezing cold weather and big snowfalls to come, when the conditions are right.
  5. Normally I would agree with you but charts similar to these would tie in with Ian Fergusson's colder outlook for January. With the likes of Gibby now showing some interest I would say there is plenty of reason for some optimism.
  6. I'm convinced it's going to be a cold one. 2.1C for me please.
  7. The local weather station temp standing at -5.2 here at the moment. A lovely cold, frosty morning. Many more to come I hope.
  8. I got a feeling watching the local weather last night Ian that you were hinting at there being a chance of it turning much colder as we head in to winter proper (or maybe that was just my wishful thinking). I know at that range nothing is certain but after the very mild winters of the last few years I do hope so.
  9. Just spotted this in the Winter Thoughts and Hopes thread. Interesting!
  10. Morning all, back again for some winter weather watching fun (hopefully)!! I must say the early signs are certainly more promising for something more seasonal than the previous few winters so fingers crossed for plenty of frost, ice, freezing fog and of course the beautiful white stuff. Everything that can make the season such a magical time. Cheers for now. John.
  11. After a lovely day here we currently have torrential rain and a cracking thunderstorm!
  12. Just popped down the shop and was surprised to see very heavy sleet hitting the windscreen. Blowing a gale too.
  13. Morning all, blowing a gale here with heavy sleet. Oh to be another 100 metres higher! I should imagine places like Hawkesbury Upton, just up the road, are seeing heavy snow.
  14. The latest posted on Fergies twitter. W COUNTRY After a milder phase this weekend, there's evidence for an extended period of below-normal temps rest of Feb into early-mid March. So hopefully a few more shots at some nice wintery weather before winter is out.
  15. Latest tweet from Fergie W COUNTRY #STORMIMOGEN Peak gusts develop later this AM to noon. These look set to *particularly* impact N #Somerset/M5/A370/A38 & #Bristol
  16. Morning all. A couple of small trees down and a fair bit of tree debris on the roads during my travels this morning. Heavy squally showers all night but the wind has definitely picked up more generally in the last hour or so.
  17. I was just going to write pretty much the same thing. Not surprising seeing as you're only a mile down the road! That was awesome!
  18. Taken from Fergies twitter. W COUNTRY, MON #StormImogen: UPDATE 1045hrs Amber Warning extended N to #Bristol #Bath & S Glos. Yellow extended N.
  19. Morning all. Woke up to it absolutely hammering it down here. Judging by the angry looking radar there's going to be some impressive rainfall totals today. Feet up at home for me today I think. Roll on the rugby!
