Snowing in Sevenoaks Kent, although the radar isn't showing anything?
Also in Bromley
Hey you two blow it over here, would love to see a few flakes before I sleep.

Bizarre that they are cancelling trains in the SE for tomorrow morning, even before the real heavy snow's arrived!
Makes you think they know something we don't really, at the moment cancaling trains is an over reaction, considering we are expecting light to moderate stuff.

Luckily my kids school is only 90second walk !
They usually shut after a cpl cm of snow as we live in the sticks !!!
Here's hoping for lunchtime snowmageddon and snowman building into the late afternoon with the kids !
(north Kent)
I wish, mine is 20 minute bus ride up the brighton road or if it's snowing about an hours walk. 45 mins in normal conditions but in the snow longer, I remember from the last time they kept the school open when it was snowing. Walking past all the stuck buses lol.
-
Am I right in thinking there will be no snow on the roads during rush hour tomorrow morning then? I am wondering whether to make school packed lunches or not!
I asked my kids school if they are open tomorrow, and they looked at me like, yes it's a friday why bother asking, and just said yes we are. So I guess it's a case of checking there web site in the morning.

Good afternoon all ladies and gents! I have a flight tomorrow booked for 14:00 from Gatwick? With the latest info we all have do u think it is possible to go ahead??
I would advise phoning just before you leave to check on the status of your flight. Still probably no garentee things will change but at least you won't leave home for nothing if it is already cancalled.

The BBC London weather girl said it's going to be powdery snow she then Went on to say it's not good for making snowmen lol!;-)
Or trains, wasn't it powedery snow that was calle the wrong type of snow by the rail network a few years back now. Remering back to secondary school days lol

South-East Forecast - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/me2
London Forecast - http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/sw12
(Weirdly the same forecaster, thats a pretty cool trick)
Seems alright except they haven't even noticed that most area's got above freezing quite comfortably today, so if they can't get that right how about the rest.

This is going to be a stupid question, but I need to ask because it's bugging me.
Why does higher ground get more snow? I understand in marginal setups higher ground is best because it's colder, but when temperatures are perfect for low lying areas too, why does the snow still accumulate more over higher ground?
It depends on wind diretion, so while the wind is blowing SE any SE facing slops will catch the snow, and the other side gets whats left.

Now I'm wondering about school tomorrow, if it's not closed I can't not take the kids in, but I remember during one of the recent thames streamers having to walk all the way up to the school and then back, walking passed all the buses in brighton road which were still in the same place an hour later on the way back. One ended with chilblanes on the toes, another on the hands. The other wanted to keep stopping because she was tired. All I kept saying was no we have to keep going or you will get too cold, and don't play with the snow till were near home or your gloves will be wet and your hand cold.
Don't want that again. I hope they close the school in advance.

Talking of big temp rises look at East Grinstead on this map in the last 2 hours.

Any one keeping a eye on the band of pricip heading east over Portsmouth
Yep, I was wandering if that is what's warming things up infront of it.
-
Currently having cavity wall insulation installed, it's perfect timing hut Brrrrr with the front and back door wide open whilst it's being done. Hope it will be worth it, my fingers are so cold I can barely type....
My landlord wanted to put new radiators in friday, told wait till the weather warms up, he decided he would pospone till monday, wish he would just wait as that means there will be no heating on that day. With the kids thats just no good.

Hehe
I think some of you were tipped off and the rush of money on the stay the same or eastwards correction was an inside job!!!
We were all tipped of by our very own croydon council gritter yesterday, but most dismissed it as ramping.

I would say the majority of people saying the temp has jumped have poorly placed thermo's or not very well shielded. Mine is a Vantage Vue and the shielding isn't great, but temp here still only 0.6C. It basically becuse the sun is out today whereas yesterday was foggy.
I'm going by this, and the fact that my house is warmer then yesterday, I've no weather station yet but will be getting one soon I hope.

Well the latest update as regards precipitation totals and the eastward movement of the front on the metoffice website suggests that they are fully confident of their own model and the NAE against most of the others. In fact for Guildford it shows heavy snow from 9am on Friday until 6pm, if it's even half that I'll be surprised but happy.
Or is it that these forecasts are a lagging indicator and will change by the morning to reflect a westward shift and a decaying front?
Or will the other models, in fact, move towards what they are saying in any case?
Just wondering where their bullishness comes from, it's very unusual to have snowy southerlies, do they see some sort of effect from the channel, given the other factors? Any ideas?
There's cold air in france at the moment so the south winds are just bring that up to us, and the chanel is a small body of water that will not warm the wind up that much, If it was a south westerly more heating up would happen.
-
Look around the yorkshire area, the showers seem to be going around in a circle lol, I'd assume it's a radar anomally.
-
I would expect -6c in the SE tonight around 6am..
then Max around 0c for the day but by 4pm another significant drop- remember the dropaway rate is at its steepest between 6-9pm
S
Didn't get above -1.7 here today.

The only remotely fathomable reason I can think of as to why Peter Cocksoft is calling for rain/sleet on sat is that he simply only glances at the 850 temperature charts for his forecasts and hasn't yet grasped the fact that pulling in low dew points off the continent means you don't need -10c at 850 to get snow.
You know what, that wouldn't supprise me, as the warm sector over the south east was back in the latest gfs run, I couldn't believe it was exactly the same shape and in the same spot lol.

IF!!!!!!!!!
that's a massive IF, the winds change more to the north east expect east kent to get upto 5cm or more! However Margate/Ramsgate/Dover is currently looking good for a few cm or more.
The wind will change to ENE,.......
In my dreams.
