None of the models show it getting less cold or that we will have rain. Neither do the Met Office, and BBC South East didn't mention rain. They said it would be staying very cold.
Strange.
-
Just watched it, they said snow turning to rain, am not the only one who heard it
Must have been a very different forecast to the one I saw. BBC South East didn't mention rain or that it would be getting less cold. Peter Cockroft must have been drunk.

bbc 1 snow friday then becoming less cold mmmmm help mr murr
Didn't see them say this either.
-
I would be surprised if the south coast of our region saw rain or sleet on Friday.
Wow BBC still going with rain sat morning.....
No, they're not.
-
Poor NAE overall not as far east and precip alot weaker
This run only goes out to 12pm on Friday. If we could see the next few frames it would probably show an absolute snow fest.
-
Met Office raw data has it snowing here from midday Friday until 6am Sunday with only a brief break in the snow at 9am Saturday. Yikes!
-
Looks like eastern areas could pick up a lot of snow showers ahead of Friday's frontal system as easterly winds increase. Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
-
I remember having amazing ice patterns on the inside of my bedroom window back then, and getting out of bed for school was like walking into a freezer!!
If, and its a big IF, we get a cold spell like that, anyone under 30 is going to be in for a serious shock at just how extreme it can be in the UK sometimes for cold and snow.
December 2010 was pretty extreme. The best month of weather I have ever experienced! We had the most snow and coldest temperatures I have ever experienced. That cold spell was truly exceptional and doubt I'll ever see the likes of it again. Snow wasn't marginal, it was guaranteed!

The bbc forecast tonight had the summery snow to rain but the only rain on the graphics was the far SW.Im sure even if there models were showing the low running to the south of the uk undercutting pulling SE winds,i would of thought they will play it safe and play out snow/rain scenario for awhile untill 100% sure
I'm not sure the BBC would be forecasting off the latest data. They always seem to be a few hours behind the Met Office.

Really looking forward to snow on Friday night Saturday and Sunday still
Any of yesterday's snow left? I've got family not far from you and I'm originally from Harrow (Hatch End).
-
dont worry mate
It can be frustrating I know
But with what the models are showing at the moment
We are bound to get something soon
Look at the Kent streamer trying to set up now for example
Only takes something small at short notice to change things
Exciting times mate
I think North West Kent (Rochester etc) only really gets snow showers coming in off the North Sea in an easterly. In a North Easterly we're normally shielded by East Anglia so I would expect any snow showers over the next few days to be over Eastern Kent which is more exposed.

Which he continually repeats over and over like a broken record. When will folk realise and accept that we are a tiny island with a temperate maritime climate ? Thems the facts. Our weather will invariably be borderline, once you accept that, happiness awaits
It's the fact this cold spell keeps seeming to offer so much only for me to just miss out whilst other areas have seen snow. I wouldn't mind so much if there wasn't any prospect of snow or anything to get my hopes up only for them to be dashed!
-
You had snow last night / the early hours, didn't you?
You mean the snow that fell whilst I was asleep and didn't settle? Brilliant.
-
depends whose forecasts you believe I guess. Got one to offer?
My thoughts and forecasts are on my weather page. I don't rant on there. I'm just getting incredibly frustrated by this.
-
That's because people keep taking notice of the models, don't, just look a few days ahead as interest. The models can't handle this situation and there is one guy who thinks that the ukmo is never wrong, well what happened to those biting north east winds and heavy snow showers for most of this week
My friends and family have all had snow. I just want some freaking snow!!!!
-
would not say a down grade. The cold block is holding!
A downgrade in snow potential. A dry cold spell does nothing for me.
First Saturday just gone was meant to deliver us snow then it was Monday, then it was today, then it was Wednesday and Thursday for snow showers (since downgraded), then it was friday (could be downgraded), now it could be next Monday. It's like chasing shadows!
-
Yes it's almost as if the weather is trying to upset you Matt. Perhaps if you could travel somewhere else in the country for a few weeks.
Harrow seems to be getting Kent's snow since I moved from there so your theory may be correct.
-
Wouldn't the 18z be better long term though
It has a slight westward correction anyway
Don't panic yet
Maybe but what's the point of prolonging a cold spell that delivers us nothing?
-
Latest GFS shows Friday's snow not reaching us. Beginning of yet another downgrade?

LOLOL- another slider with more snow-
best place out of all this- elevation in the midlands- telford somehwere like that??
WATCH ONE OF THE SHORTWAVES BREAK AWAY EAST AT 216
S
Steve, in your opinion, would the snow likely affect only the midlands and western areas or would areas further east likely be affected?
-
It may just by pass Rochester....
Upper winds have a slightly easterly vector, Robin, hence the shower trough has maintained some vigour due to slight westerly convergence.
Yep. I would estimate that it will miss me by about 5 to 10 miles. They always do unless we get a straight easterly. East Anglia shades this part of Kent from any showers.
-
Would you like to expand on the reasons behind your forecast with some data or reasoning, or is this just soundbite posting?
That fact that is almost always the case and the fact the pros don't seem to think it will bring snow to here.
I'm just incredibly frustrated with what is turning out to be possibly the worst cold spell I have ever experienced having offered so much and delivered nothing.
-
If these snow showers hit Rochester today I will eat my own face.
Friday's low probably won't reach this Far East or will gives us rain.
I'm convinced this cold spell is going to deliver me nothing with all the missed opportunities so far.

We seem to have a different news outlet down here. The forecast I saw was a woman (don't know her name) and she sad it would be staying very cold. No mention of rain at all.
Pretty shoddy from the BBC!
