Another day and another blanket of cloud. Thought we were meant to see more sunshine during this spell. It’s just as gloomy as December.
Maybe Mon to Fri should be good, then dreading the wet and mild
your location though may get lucky, dry on south coast after Friday

The hunt for snow goes on. All the fabulous charts of the past few weeks have come to nowt. Now all we need to do is await another rambling from the lady in Portugal who manages to make Sir Humphrey sound like the Artful Dodger!
don't understand the posts anyway

I like dry of course, but mild is probably better the way the models are looking, many will not see a flake of snow before the wet/warm mess arrives

Next week looking cold and dry, maybe odd passing snow flurry, but turning milder between 19th-21st, from then I expect some very mild, even warm air at times with the flooding and met office named storms

I remember a few years back there was a front modelled right down to 0hrs to not get any further north than Birmingham but ended up stalling over me in North Staffordshire for several hours bringing a few inches of snow.
24th Jan '21?

I am happy for the dry and cold weather to last up to March. Not that it's all that cold anyway. It's just normal winter weather and nothing like the cold spells we used to get during old school winters.
Sure, snow would be nice but at least it's finally stopped raining. Just wear suitable clothing and you'll be fine.
rain back with flooding soon, from around 20th with double figure temps

We may well have a greater chance of recording ice days than snow next week

Snow fans don't look at GFS 18Z, all gone for Wed/Thur, this looks realistic though, very poor run though if it's snow you're after

Cheshire gap activity here I’d have thought @Joe Snow
need winds more NW'ly here, this will bury SK4, like 20th Dec '09 and 5th Jan '10

How much did you get in Dec 2000? Can only find that there was snow lying here but nothing specific re depths.
around same as this Dec, 8cms or so, but the 2 days after were below zero with clear skies, before the Atlantic rolled in for 2001, after a bit of leading edge snow on new years eve

To be fair they get nothing unless there's a Scandinavian High. And the South West need a Channel Low.
SE is well placed for southerly lows, good setup for SE next week

I like the change in the forum theme. It'll be the most snow I'll be seeing!

What I will say if we get any north westerly there will be quite some Cheshire gap job going on with them cold uppers
flow looks too straight on Monday, wishbone, but that is our only hope I think, winds look WNW on tues, so could be a window of NW'lys on Mon night

This afternoon's model runs so far shift next week's snow risk into southern areas but too far south for much of the Midlands.
Joy abounds in the model thread. They're definitely not biased, though.would rather it did go into France then after all
