Exposed to most wind directions and particularly the Cheshire Gap. Central so often in a good spot for fronts coming in from any direction. Decent elevation; Some spots are over 200m asl.
same here, but don't get the same snow days somehow, need winds slightly more northerly here off Cheshire Gap

Seems to. Certainly in the 7 years I’ve been here. Averages historically more snow days per winter than anywhere else in England outside of the really hilly areas like the Peak District, Lake District and Pennines.
never known why it's so snowy, around 180m asl, Stafford lower down but used to be a very snowy area in 80s/90s, but changed now

Yes, Stoke seems to have been a bit of a sweet spot this winter! Does it often do well for snow compared to other nearby areas?
Donald, Stoke isn't bad, better than here, my location okay, sometimes better than Stoke on a 24th Jan '21 type setup, systems like 18th Dec 2010

Snowing! showers making it here through gap, even lightest of dustings

Still cannot understand those members especially in Midlands/SE, that wanted the low to go into France, to keep the cold longer, again it hasn't worked as it's turning mild with a whimper and snow free for many in central/SE
when cold is in place, said many times, do not want the lows going south

could see the anvils coming back from Lichfield on the bus, don't think they will get here somehow

Forgot about the snow this day last year, 2cms or so, on my fb memories

Met still going for winds from the east possibly, this can only suggest heights either over Scotland just to the north, or further north or possibly NW. East winds in Feb means cold usually, indeed usually colder than in Dec and Jan.
depends on location, was wishing this was Dec or Jan, had quite frequent snow showers but wet, just wet the ground
-
Oliver, shouldn't you be in Yorkshire thread, Leeds not really Midlands

Done with this now, snowless cold temps don't interest me! give me another 2/3 Dec, or anything snow, then get me excited

I'm going to nail my colours to the mast and say that we are going to get a March 2018 BFTE in March 2024.....just a hunch

This cold of 2018 was impressive. Still at the fourth of march I was able to skate. The 28th of February had a record cold tmax. Which is in our warming world quite remarkable.
don't forget mini beast also! cancelled the half marathon, blizzards even here but short lived

Indeed...the mild sector is making itself known across the northwest now according to reports.
At least they started the day well though.
But yeah...a forgettable and fairly typical January cold spell for us down here. It's only notable because it has followed an awful very wet period over Christmas and New Year...and I guess it's also notable because of the possiblities that were there leading up to it. But the Met Office always talked about likely and unlikely scenarios, which is different from certain. And the forecasts have been accurate from around last Friday onwards for here...so far anyway. So nothing lost really I guess. Still need a mini grumble though!
Clouding over from the north now. I guess that's another frosty night down the pan tonight. But need to make most of the dry weather before the mudmakers return at the weekend.
westerly/SW'lys are very snowy for places like Cumbria, SK4, Manchester area, useless for midlands, chance of a few flurries next 3 nights, before the warmth arrives Saturday 20th

Embarrassing regional weather forecast on Good Morning Britain this morning. I haven't see something as bad as this. This is what happens when you don't do a live weather broadcast. The bulk of NW England was affected by snow as this was being aired.
childhood! I remember her, thought she was utterly useless, cannot remember now if she did ITV national or central ITV or Midlands today in 90's

Nice day here, plenty of mid or high level cloud to the north visible form here.
Some radar returns near Stafford last few frames, anyone confirm these are true?
no rain here today, thaw of snow though
-
Another very light dusting last night, today though W breeze, no good away from extreme north of Midlands

Looks like it might be dry and mild, not wet and mild: that should please both camps. Well, except those who want snow.
Hopefully, but UKMO has vile stuff, I'd be happy with dry and mild, but love snow too

I think i may skip the next 10 day trend video, that dreaded word has been spoken - "exceptional mildness"
Okay if it's dry, late Jan can produce warmth

All posts were being pre moderated in the model thread for a time, so it was unrelated to your very old warning. I don't know why it showed up in this instance, sounds like a bug, which I'll raise with Invision.
perhaps worth a try, facebook groups do it, but brought my 7 year old warning up
-
just appeared in red writing 'your content will need to be approved by a moderator' view warning details, warning issued 4th Jan 2017, just in the model thread, I wasn't even going to post it comes up anyway
just wondered how long restrictions last? and why come up after 7 years
-
