First anvil of the year, and a nice core on radar.

The cell on the coast to my East has got a huge anvil on it, no more snow watch i'm over to storm watch lol.

Large cell just came through here giving a huge dumping of Hail/graupel really thought i was going to get some thunder there the sky was just so black and hail was pea size.

Firstly thanks for sharing all the photos guys some of them look great, my favorite has to be Sarahs drifts, they really are amazing, and i'm sure the only people that didn't believe you were the ones that continuously sulk about not having any snow.
Secondly on the subject of news and weather forecasting, i just don't understand why when events like this are developing they just don't drop all the news stories and go onto nowcasting like they do in America for hurricanes and snow storms, with sites like this it wouldn't take that much to keep people updated by the minute of how things are developing, much better than going to a chap in a snowy field who just repeats the same thing all day long that he was told to say that morning when the situation is clearly changing.

Morning all! Was woken up at 4am with the snow hitting the skylight and its not stopped since! School and college shut and the main roads are very slippery and dangerous. I've got no Internet (wi-fi) or TV connection so I'm on my mobile on 3G.... Drifts are pretty deep and the garden has a good few cms but there are sections of pavements still showing... Very odd!
Stay safe today everyone. Ill get some pictures today as my son has requested we make a snow duck and teddy! He's autistic and just illuminates when it snows... It's really magical for us

As for our friendly in the snow cup, i think you can safely say your the winner, i don't think my 3cms is going to resemble anything that you have got, but at least i got something to measure.

Looking at the radar i,m about to get pasted, streamer has intensified and i'm right in its path, fingers crossed.

Suns come out for a bit here, can see the cloud tops on the shower train to my South and it looks awesome.

Lol, shall i go and measure one of my drifts, the shower train has only just got there aswell, i was under it for 2 hours and only managed an inch, or about 8cms in the drifts that have built up.

One from here about an hour ago, there our some large trees at the back a couple of hundred yards away.
Hard to find somewhere, but 1 inch so far in a sheltered spot.

A bit of a break here now from the last hour and a half, school run was awful, cars sliding everywhere, i wanted to walk but we had a huge model of a volcano to take in and a baby buggy to push through almost whiteout conditions.

Wow!! 20p sized flakes and close to a blizzard, trees just 200 yards at the back of my house are hardly visible, thick clouds blowing around of every surface.
Wifey just messaged me on her way to work, her ears are hurting and clouds of snow keep smashing her in the face.

Went to bed with just a patchy dusting at 3.30, just got up and we are right under the shower train which in the last half hour has intensified and we now have a good covering everywhere, lots of thick clouds of blowing snow and between 1 and 2 cms.

Thats it, need somme sleep before the kids wake up for school.

Thank you hopefully the showers will return, my net weather app has my side of town down for snow most of tomorrow?
Are we likely to see anything from this low or are we far far to north?
Think were just too far North but with whats happening now theres a slight chance we could get clipped, everything is crossed.

Can anyone still up tell me what to expect here in humble ippie? We are kinda until the shower train and have a dusting outside now? More of the same?
Hi MF, we seem to have slipped between 2 shower trains at the moment, the one to our north seems to be fading on the last couple of runs and the one to our south seems to be dropping slightly so it may be all we see if it does.

Im a bit fatigued, but no way am I going to bed now. Snow picking up here from light to moderate.
Getting tired here too, but can't help wondering whats going to happen with this.
last shower here was quite a hefty one which turned everything white and the paths and grass aren't mellting away anymore.

Seems to me that the plume of moisture feeding the showers on the East coast is now building itself over the North of Holland so may start to see the showers building and coming in a bit lower down the coast into the Estuary.

Right, so at the moment we have Sussex wizzle and some heavier stuff over Norfolk/Suffolk.
Any reports of settling snow over E.Anglia?

Showers here seem to be getting a bit better over the last couple of hours, they leave a dusting each time one comes through, but it seems to melt and dry up very quickly on paths and grass, anything off ground keeps its light covering.

Moderate snow here, flakes about pea size but lots of it.

Showers getting into The Wash and N/W Norfolk now, as the day goes on they should get further South around the EA coast, and as wind strengthens push further inland.
