  1. It has snowed pretty much continuously here since about 8.00 last night mostly moderately (some would call it heavy but i've been to the mountains so i know what heavy snow is) got a bit light and patchy in the early hours and then the front pepped up and got going again this morning.

Unfortunately though because DPs haven't gone low enough yet theres not much to show for it other than bits and pieces on cars and roofs, i have no doubt if it had been in 24 hours time i would have to get the shovel out this morning.

Heres hoping it keeps going when temps and Dps are lower.

Happy Mothers Day all you mumssmile.png

  2. Radar is not playing ball..... Its almost all anaprop! Boo.....again.....

I can't understand why you keep saying its all anaprop, there is no anaprop on the map, just because a blob comes over you and you don't see anything does not mean its anaprop, it means its not making it to the ground. Besides which every time the radar has shown something over me i've looked out and there has been flakes blowing around in the air.

Anaprop is an artifact on the radar that shows something where there isn't anything, it usually sits still or bounces around all over the place, it certainly doesn't move with the wind.

I'm not saying this to be nasty just trying to help you understand the difference between anaprop and showers where most evaporates and just a few flakes make it to the ground.

  3. Where is the cloud, snow that is over us coming from, there's a long line of it, And yes your right at the top emnd of it there seems to be better convection heading here.

Think the wash will see something soon too.

It doesn't really come from anywhere, the showers just build on the back end of the shower train, it will carry on building until it finally runs out of energy and the trough fades.

  4. What I would call proper snow showers now gathering just east of Felixstowe now, wind profiles further North into Angular look east north east but further south most definately North East.

I am going to go with places just a tad further east than Maidstone for tonight, the good old Kent Slapper, Herne Bay, Ashford to Hastings jobby!

Maidstone on the western edge, dover might just be in some action as well. Folkestone could do quite well also.

    Good luck guys in Kentishire!

Agreed, showers on the back edge of the shower train looking to beef up now, Suffolk and Essex coasts could see some of these through the night, but i think Kent will do best, East of a line from Dartford to Brighton.

  5. I would say that the vertical lines on the radar are some kind of precip and probably evaporating before it reaches the ground as the Easterly air is very dry.

The lines that go horizontally from Kent to Belgium are classic Anaprop from the radar, and if you follow the three lines to a point where they meet in Kent that is where that radar is situated. Anaprop doesn't move with the wind, it just stays where it is.
