If anyone remembers the big snowfall of 1982 I don't wasn't born, but here are the archive charts from wetterzentrale. In my village people lost their cars in the drifts and a local farmer even lost his tractor. But you can see how far the mild air has to penetrate the cold for good dumping. You can on this event it stalled and the cold air won. Ive attached how it all started on the 5th until the 8th the cold air won and headed back south.

I'm old enough to remember it, I was 7. Cardiff had some massive snow drifts. I had stayed at my older sister's the night before and ended up snowed in up there all week. My other sister got married on the 16th January that year and the neighbours had to dig a path up the street for her to get into a car on the main road. I've never seen anything like it since, it stuck around for weeks too.

    It really was snowmaggedon!

Who's going to risk it all and stay up into the night? Nothing worse than the burn of staying up for something that never comes. I personally go out for a dog walk as soon as it snows, no matter what time, because you never know when you'll see it again. I'll decide later on

I'm considering it. I'll keep an eye on the radar and see where it is later. Even if I do sleep it will be short naps and lots of window checking.

It's looking good for Wales tonight. Even MetOffice have Cardiff down with a 90% chance at 6am. I am hopeful to at least see a flake falling even if it doesn't settle.

Agreed,  I was diagnosed with summer SADs by GP 2 years ago, and I can never deal with July especially. Last year I just upped my antidepressants and stuck it out, but I never go out in the Summer. Hate it with passion.

It's around now, i start to feel a little better and by October it's gone. Then it comes back in May.

I must one of a handful of people who have to take antidepressants to go to Greece on holiday and enjoy it. Its ridiculous but hey that's my body and mind I guess.

I struggle with the Summer months and extra light too. In the peak of Summer it feels like I have to endure eternal daylight. I can feel myself starting to perk up now the nights are slowly drawing back in, the end is in sight! I need the dark to relax, I wear sunglasses all year round and not just on sunny days.I also like the feel fresh air coming through my window, none of this warm hairdryer rubbish please! October to February is the best time of the year!

  4. I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed this Summer so far, I am a rain fan and not a fan of the sun at all.

It is feeling rather muggy and humid here today - Despite losing the Met Office warning, I wonder if we'll be lucky enough to see some storms overnight.

  5. I'm really feeling the post snow blues tonight.  There was a tidy coverage at 9am, but it thawed so quickly and every drip I heard made me feel so sad. It was like the snow itself was crying to leave us.

There's plenty of time left this year for round 2. Hopefully this was just a practise run and the next batch will stick around longer.

  6. Phew. It's been hot lately! Definitely not my favourite kind of weather, but it's a lot cloudier today and feeling somewhat fresher. Quite a welcome relief.

I see the Met office have issued a warning for thunderstorms across Wales. We really could do with some rain now, everything is so dry and dusty out there. I'm crossing my fingers this storms do materialise. :)

The night of the blizzard the other week, about midnight a car was stuck outside my house. I went to help. I have never  been so cold. The wind and snow ripepd through you.  I was only out for 30 mins and was shivering for ages after. I've never felt cold like that for a long time.  It was -9 outside and felt like -20.

I did the same. I went out the garden to try and get a photo of the drifting. Oh my word, never felt a bitterly cold like that. The snow was pelting down and when the wind picked up, ouch! It was so cold it hurt. I was only out there a few moments, but it took me ages to warm up.

I expect you all hate me on here now after I said what I said about derek and the met etc etc - well I stand by what I said - they warned too late and people got hurt - and as I understand it - a met office chief - FELL ON HIS SWORD a couple of days ago - resigned then - just coincidence or something to do with the shocking last minute warnings we had - I paid for my out spoken behaviour anyway - with a ban on this site - so I expect I deserved it or not - but they didn't warn early enough and people died and got hurt - nothing else to say

Nice to see you back, Andy. Gobsmacked they gave you a ban for speaking your mind.

  9. Most of the snow has thawed here now, still a few odd patches and the mountains the supermarkets have cleared from their carparks.

To think this time last week we were all waiting to see if it arrived, now it's been, thawed and the weather is all a bit boring again.

I feel a bit lost. Lol

My cats won't go out (they're not daft) and I got what I asked for drifts deep enough to throw a cat in! Mwhahaha.

Windy and on/off powder snow here in north Newport - radar says no more....<sob>

Same here. The cat ran to the front door this morning, then turned and ran straight back upstairs. The dog has been more enthusiastic. Lol
